Shaman Tank - an idea whose time has come

Continuing the discussion from Shaman Tank:

I was going to start a thread on this myself but I noticed this one which covered much of what I was interested in discussing, and it’s not that old.

I really like the theme and cultural significance of shamans; they remind me a bit of the wiccan philosophy of natural energies and forces (especially the invoking of the 5 classic elements - fire, earth, water, air and spirit). Parts of Wicca are more similar to the Druidic class (as in the Moon Goddess and the Horned God) but the elemental magic is very similar.

So a tank that used the elements of earth and fire, etc, would be very cool. We have leather wearing tanks and plate wearing tanks, the idea of an element-based mail wearing, shield bearing tank is certainly well past due.

another tank won’t fix the tank population

and i simply would hate to see shaman tanks personally, druid 4th spec was only happened because of balancing issues of the feral tree. Don’t see them giving more classes 4 specs.

I hadn’t even thought of a “tank population” problem when considering the idea. I simply liked the idea of a shaman tank as a playable class. I’ve tried various tank classes recently and haven’t really enjoy many of them. I found bears a bit boring, the DH tank was almost equally so, I don’t much like Death Knights at all and I couldn’t really get a personal grip on Warriors. Paladins weren’t too bad but that was about it for me. However I would certainly give shamans a try if they were designed around elemental magic.

Water - Restoration
Fire - Elemental
Earth - Earthwarding
Air - Enhancement

Also bring back 2h Enhancement. I literally can’t even be the tauren shaman from the Vanilla cinematic anymore.

Totally down for a shaman tank class.

Enhancement was originally supposed to be a tankish kind of spec wasn’t it? I seem to remember Rockbiter weapon having a high threat/taunting quality to it.

wtb old talent tree back, 5/5 improved blocking would solve this. :’)

Yup. It didn’t really have any viable builds, but the fact is that it had a number of tanky talents.

it did (and frost shock if memory serves) but they didn’t have any other viable tanking mechanics

Blizzard has shown their ideas are not as welcomed as the player base.

Oh, btw, OP – wrong version of ‘whose’ in the title. Who’s is a contraction of ‘who is’. Whose expresses ownership, so you’d want the latter.

Thanks…Im usually very careful about that stuff but that one got by me.

No worries, it happens. It’s a pretty common mistake to make. Downfall of English as a language is all of our stupid homophones.

Cough Google translate cough

Back in vanilla we ran dungeons with shamans tanking …

Back when you could ise creative builds rather than everyone using the exact same build like now.

No changes to classes until microtransactions are gone please and make them never return. I don’t even know why I even bother, Blizzard won’t listen the community.

Seriously? Way to inject a completely off-topic comment into a thread.:confounded:

I would love to see WoW explore a ranged tank. It worked in SWToR (though in fairness … you just shoot at point blank range mostly).

Demonology could/should be tank spec … where you juggle defensives on pet + funnel + etc.

However the biggest problem is there just isn’t much for tanks to do outside of raids and dungeons…so most people gravitate away.

I understand that you’re right but ugh. Why be this?!

That’s blasphemy! Shaman tanks were always fun back in the day!

Earthwarden spec with Rockbiter Weapon and Earthshield, maybe some totem abilities a bit like Monks and beef up the Earth Elemental for a tank only cooldown. It would be awesome! I’d actually tank if they made Shaman tanks.
