I was going to start a thread on this myself but I noticed this one which covered much of what I was interested in discussing, and it’s not that old.
I really like the theme and cultural significance of shamans; they remind me a bit of the wiccan philosophy of natural energies and forces (especially the invoking of the 5 classic elements - fire, earth, water, air and spirit). Parts of Wicca are more similar to the Druidic class (as in the Moon Goddess and the Horned God) but the elemental magic is very similar.
So a tank that used the elements of earth and fire, etc, would be very cool. We have leather wearing tanks and plate wearing tanks, the idea of an element-based mail wearing, shield bearing tank is certainly well past due.
and i simply would hate to see shaman tanks personally, druid 4th spec was only happened because of balancing issues of the feral tree. Don’t see them giving more classes 4 specs.
I hadn’t even thought of a “tank population” problem when considering the idea. I simply liked the idea of a shaman tank as a playable class. I’ve tried various tank classes recently and haven’t really enjoy many of them. I found bears a bit boring, the DH tank was almost equally so, I don’t much like Death Knights at all and I couldn’t really get a personal grip on Warriors. Paladins weren’t too bad but that was about it for me. However I would certainly give shamans a try if they were designed around elemental magic.
Enhancement was originally supposed to be a tankish kind of spec wasn’t it? I seem to remember Rockbiter weapon having a high threat/taunting quality to it.
No changes to classes until microtransactions are gone please and make them never return. I don’t even know why I even bother, Blizzard won’t listen the community.
That’s blasphemy! Shaman tanks were always fun back in the day!
Earthwarden spec with Rockbiter Weapon and Earthshield, maybe some totem abilities a bit like Monks and beef up the Earth Elemental for a tank only cooldown. It would be awesome! I’d actually tank if they made Shaman tanks.
