Alliance-biased devs strike again - the shaman 1-25 leveling experience was awful.
IF you’re not a tank. In all fairness the other tanks have an awful time - they all had their runes drop off level 25 mobs or require 40g+ to purchase from Grizzby. You can get all three tank runes by level 12 for shaman.
But if you don’t want to level as tank…?
- Despite warlock getting chaos bolt by level 5, shamans don’t get Lava Burst until 25. Overload is worthless if the only thing you’re multicasting are 40 dmg lightning bolts.
- Enhance? Every warrior knows that dual wield sucks before 60 because you don’t have enough hit. The dual wield shammy rune WOULD’VE made this a viable spec to level with - if it wasn’t locked behind 40g of auction house items to purchase.
- Resto? What resto runes? Earth Shield is locked behind a raid, and it’ll take almost the entire 1-25 timeframe to get your supply crate rep up to get Healing Rain unless you take days out of your life farming for the easier to fulfill crates (sometimes you get a crate drop but it is asking for 80s in mats… what person leveling their first character has that much to burn?)
Dual wield rune should’ve been available by level 15 and Lava Burst at level 10, if not earlier. Ancestral Guidance is the worst rune in the game and should’ve given us Lava Burst instead at that level (level 4). If you didn’t level as tank you basically leveled a vanilla shaman, your runes do almost nothing.
25-40 should be fun I suppose. Oh well. Maybe Aggrend will remember shamans next phase… this is a cope.

i see shammys blasting RFC as tanks. So honestly seems like they are okay tbqh. I mean, if they are literally by far the best tanks in RFC, then how would leveling one be hard at all?

yah dude, you’re just flat wrong. i just looked at shammy rune path, and they get the shield rune, the tank rune, and the water shield rune like before level 5. You just dont know what you’re doing. I’d level a shammy in like 4 hours easily and never come close to dying or needing to drink for mana.
I think you’re better fit for playing a druid, op. They get all the caster runes early and cant get the main tank rune until like 25 and 50 gold.

Shaman has always been the worst at leveling, and it’s somehow worse now due to the mob buffs but weak early runes lol.

You actually can’t use that water shield time till level 20 despite getting it in a level 13 quest area which is really weird.
Not saying you’re wrong about any of the rest, but that part really doesn’t make any sense.

Pretty strange that us heathens playing 2h enh are having fun with our bastardized lavaburst builds and the only other shamans not complaining are those who went hard into tank

Questing def felt worse than Era… but getting the tank runes early is a worthy trade-off.
The Ele/Resto runes are harder to get because that’s what you will likely be playing at endgame. Tanking is for leveling and dungeons. I think it makes sense.
Idk, I leveled from 10-25 DW with Way of Earth and no DW Spec rune, pre-Lava Lash buffs and I still felt a smidge more powerful than I was on Era.
And I was leveling a Shaman on Era in the days leading up to SoD to freshen up on my leveling path and important quest gear in preparation for SoD, so the memory is pretty fresh in my comparison.
Its better but not much better.
To be honest I had a buddy help me grab Lava Burst at level 12. Oh my god! It felt so good! My time to kill quest mobs was close to that of my warlock with chaos bolt. I felt like a real class. I tried going back to just Earth Shock and Lightning bolts just to see - and it was miserable.
Also, you’re a Shaman. You don’t have to “level” as any one of the roles, tank or otherwise. If you’re appropriately leveled and relatively up to date on your gear you can tank, dps, and heal pretty much every dungeon at this stage in the game regardless of where you assigned your talents.
BFD is the only content where you have to be specced and geared into the role you’re choosing.

hey dont you cyber bully me! i dont play shaman, but i see with my own eyes that they destroy dungeons at low levels. And if i dont have to heal them ever when they pull elite packs, then how can you people cry that they are bad at leveling? that is absurd.

You can learn Lava Burst rune at lv 1 but you need someone to kill the mobs until you get the rune and need help again in RFC to stay on lava.
