Shadows Rising: State of Azeroth Details

Wish Beta testers at least asked blizz to just copy paste the Nazmir necropolis onto the tree and change the tree bridge to a troll bridge

Well… That is all kinda stupid given how sylvanas or someone associated with the jail boy could just send assassins towards them.

Bwonsamdi and Eyir, sittin’ in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N–
gets slapped by Winter Queen

This is definitely why Bwonsamdi is in the doghouse with the Winter Queen. Definitely not just headcanon.

Are there any non-tree buildings in Ardenweald at all? I thought the zone was a strict ‘plants only’ location, and that’s why he got a spooky tree.

Considering Sylvanas somehow captures Thrall and puts him in the Maw, going after his family didn’t seem to be a necessary step.

Indeed.

Sylvanas has captured Baine twice, and has Thrall, Jaina and Anduin in her grips and she never kills any of them. She walks right up to Anduin at Lordaeron and he walks away. She could have killed Zekhan, Anduin and Thrall at Orgrimmar and chose not to.

But sure, she’s going to assassinate Thrall’s family for no reason because she’s just that evil.

Sylvanas is a James Bond Villain. Not killing off the heroes is part of the job description.

Exactly. She could have executed Baine on the spot…twice now. No, she designs an elaborate trap that all-but ensures Baine is going to be rescued…twice. What good is it to be the villain of the story if you cannot even be relied upon to kill Baine? Seriously, her and Magatha have really let us down.

She doesn’t even get credit for not burning down Thunderbluff. Seriously people, show some appreciation.

Have the Blizzard writers never heard of Dr. Evil?

Dr. Evil might be their inspiration for Sylvanas:

Edit:
Oh my gosh. Sylvanas and Dr. Evil even have the same face scar now.

Author has said that this was a false vision done by Bwonsamdi to trick Zappy boi. Saurfang is in the maw

You know, this makes me think of something. How many times ingame (or in other material) has Bwonsamdi actually lied? For example, maybe he’s not as old as he says he is? There’s a lot of ways that Blizzard could go with it

You forgot:

The Witherbark are still living in Arathi.
Alleria warns the Horde refugees about them.
Meaning: They were not driven out.

Zandalar is full of villages, even as far as to the borders of Nazmir.

The weakening a loa part was already the in game, but nice to see in a book.

Zekhan is the ambassador of the Horde to Zandalar
Bwonsamdi saves only Trolls.
(Saurfang is in the Maw).

The Night Elves seem to have taken residence / control over Nordrassil.
The presence of grieve can be felt there.

Lightforged can pass through void portals.
For some reason.

Sadly Revantusk, Shatterspear and other tribes are not even mentioned. A real missed opportunity.

Stormwinds farmers seem to do better? Not sure about that one.

Urgh Stop this. No.
He also doesn’t understand her at all.
“Your fathers murderers are kinda nice and could help…”
That’s horrible.

Hah!

This means neither side can kill either. Again, Lother’mar himself has said the Horde is in a similar state.

Was this explained in the book? Or did the author come in afterwards to clarify?

:cactus:

It’s in the book and it’s clear after you read it.

Bwonsamdi’s a jokester and his goals inscrutable at times, but he hasn’t shown himself to be particularly malicious or deceitful. He’s always kept his deals too.

He could also have been trying to spare the poor troll’s feelings. Saurfang was Zekhan’s hero. You see the troll in Orgrimmar regaling orphans with inspiring stories of Saurfang deeds.

“Sorry kid. The guy’s burning in hell for all eternity now,” would be pretty callous indeed.

I guess it could be more of a ‘White lie’ then? Because telling the truth would make Zappy boi feel worse about seeing the Maw. Having Bwonsamdi being a caring character to those who are upset would be nice to see too. Just because he has shrunken heads on his skirt and a rotted skull face dosen’t mean he dosen’t care about you <3

I don’t get why people say he’s ‘obviously evil’ either. Did they just die too many times in Zandalar, and are sick of of him? Was it because of Rastakhan’s deal?

I’d chalk it up to the death = scary and evil trope. Most of the time in fiction, your death related spiritual creatures are aloof and dispassionate about the cycle of life at best. Maliciously sadistic and delighting in the pain of suffering at worst. Most are just morose/macabre and grim.

Bwonsamdi is a very jolly and sociable death entity, which is very much an outlier in popular media. It makes people especially suspicious of his motives. I mean look at all the covenants and their leaders. None of them are what you’d call “perky”.
