Shadowlands: Watch the Eternity’s End developer preview

Well, of course have  It just feels a bit expedited. 9.1.5 is still fresh, and they’re already taking initiative to talk about 9.2 in depth. Feels like they’re trying a bit harder than usual to keep us updated and I appreciate that.

Shadowlands is not worthy of being considered a continuation of warcraft 3 to me! Sure, some cameos and old characters show up, but does blizz think that’s enough!? They gave us half a story with shadowlands, a story hardly thought out, and now they’re just ending it!
Why aren’t we seeing Arthas!? Saurfang!? So many! If they wished to close the story, they should’ve made sure all the doors were already closed!
I’m…The WOW lore is such a mess now…

Pretty zone and all but I was hoping for a bit more info on the substance. Were PvP gearing concerns listened to? Is this just another patch where the non-hardcore are once again left out? Is the LFR of the new raid going to be irrelevant a week into the patch?

We’ve had one major patch in the span of a year, nothing about this expansion feels expedited. 9.1.5 is just a convenience non-content patch.

To be fair, this is a preview and they’ve stated on numerous occasions that class balance and tuning is something they do on the back half of the dev cycle for a patch, so it makes sense that it wasn’t here.

I’m looking forward to learning the details that you mentioned though, for sure.

That being said… Tier sets from raids, M+, or PvP? Let’s go. That’s awesome.

9.2 was supposed to be out by now. Most of the other expansions the patch cycles were, at most, 8 months for the beginning patch cycles. We are way behind at this point and they know it. By this timelime, we should be in 9.2 or 9.2.5 almost to 9.3 with 9.3 being the last patch and being the one that is out for over a year like they did with WoD, Legion and BFA.

Well I suppose…but, already my entire family is turning away from this game! Soon there will be no reason for me to play either…I hope they can do something good before it’s too late…I’ve been playing this game for so long…and it’s saddening…

I didn’t want any more cosmic, but here it is. I was so excited that we may actually do something related to Warcraft….quite disappointed.

Umm… I think you had a little too high misplaced expectations for a major patch.

So what I heard:

  • more timegating
  • new time wasting systems
  • last patch
  • tier sets

I had so low expectations and they still managed to fall short. At this point they can blame COVID, the lawsuit, whatever, but the fact that they have such terrible vision as far as a path forward is just sad. And the fact that this is all they have at this pony is even more sad. It’s like, what are they doing with our sub and cat mount money? Why even put this out if PTR wasn’t starting now?

I love lore and expanding the universe, but why don’t we start paying off any one of the million threads they started. Where’s denathrius and the nathrezim story arc they started? What about more raid/pve content? 3 raids for a whole xpac? 9 dungeons that they are callling 10 for a whole xpac? I’ve never been less interested in continuing to play than I am after watching that video. Because let’s be honest, who the hell knows when we are even going to get the content live.

why would they give balance changes in a brief look lol?

Lore wise this entire chapter’s been a complete mess and this is not going to fix it.

But this actually looks like a zone that would be very fun to play with. Add to that tier sets and there’s potential.

Now the bad. None of this is going to track or work well at all if:

a) the loot droprates and systems remain the way they are creating artificial grinds to actually get viable sets. For PvE this means raiding tier sets taking time to develop across 4 difficulties of content once again. For PvP this means no fixes to the boosting prevalence caused by tying gear upgrades to rating instead of keeping it flat or at least flattening the gear upgrade curve more.

b) The artificial character upgrade systems remain. It’s true that these represent small boosts in power but they all add up. I’m talking things like conduits, placeable sockets on gear, etc which are currently set up to be upgraded over time spent playing and doing mandated content. This can be ameliorated if it’s set up so they are upgraded using a universally dropped currency from all content (why they didn’t just do this to begin with is beyond me)

c) If they don’t make it alt accessible. From this video it is abundantly clear that there will be no 9.3. Given there will be no 9.3, this is going to be the patch that needs to hold the tide for another year at least if not more while they design and fine tune a new expansion. If they want people to not leave in droves right away, the content needs to be extremely alt accessible as different class feels will be the only real different approach to content there will be.

…that’s how WoW has pretty much always been though?

Anyone who is gonna leave WoW for Endwalker has already done so-- or currently plays both games very actively.

Endwalker doesn’t really have a lot for brand new FF14 players to do-- you have to go through the hundreds of hours of MSQ first-- which is almost impossible to catch up on before release if someone were to start today.
