Fallen Charger’s Reins, Iska’s Maw Rat. Just a few of the tedious Shadowlands Rare mounts that have been made even more troublesome and will continue to increase in difficulty to obtain as expansions come and go.
Let’s start with Fallen Charger. While at the height of it’s release and to a patch before Dragonflight dropped you could find camp groups being very plentiful and many people got their mount. The Drop rate increase did help substantially but what about those who come after? The Rare it drops from is already proving troublesome for current players to obtain as it is constantly on the move from the time it spawns at 100% mount speed and CAN despawn if it crosses a certain threshold; not to mention that there are virtually no camp groups anymore.
Moving on to Iska’s Maw Rat. This mount does not drop off Iska itself but the mount Iska spawns in on. On top of that there are two other bosses in the pool of possible summons. Like Fallen Charger, at the height of the content they were introduced in there were many group finders but now there are none and some players may be able to solo the bosses with minimal issues. For months I sat in Zereth Mortis calling out any group finder I could find with the three bosses and relaying it to my server. (My server called me the “Dune Watcher” for this.) While I managed to get every possible drop off these three rares, maw rat included, I can’t help but think that players who missed the content or those returning to it for a bit of farming will have no shortage of difficulty waiting for these bosses to spawn.
While these types of unique spawn conditions are excellent chances to provide players the opportunity to team up and support one another with the chance to get coveted loot during current patches/expansions, they are not very conducive to the same treatment after an expansion has passed and actually become much harder and more frustrating to achieve.
My suggestion is to sunset such spawn conditions once an expansion has ended or at the very least create more realistic spawn conditions that can be managed by a solo player to make the content more bearable and achievable.
