Shadowlands Pre-Order Question

Hello. I have a weird question about pre-ordering and would like some insight.
I immediately pre-ordered the base expansion as I always do as soon as it’s announced. However, a few days later a guildie purchased me the epic edition through the Battlenet gift process. (I believe this is the first expansion you can do this rather than just gift Battlenet balance having gifted many people BFA).
Now the big question is how will the gift that my friend sent me merge onto my Shadowlands license? Will it just automatically upgrade me to epic and toss away the 40 dollar value of the base that I purchased or would it refund my purchase? Will it let me apply it at all? I would obviously prefer to not waste the 40 dollars I spent pre-ordering even though it is a gift from someone else. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

(PS: An exception to links of Battle(dot)net for non-ranked forum individuals would be nice for everybody imo since it’s the name of the platform)

Good question, I wish I had an equally good answer.

The wrinkle here is it was a gift. If YOU had purchased it as an upgrade yourself, it would be a bit different situation.

I’d suggest reaching out to Billing and just asking. In this particular situation, I’m just not sure what your options might be.

Yeah, I actually kind of cursed the fact I couldn’t directly gift BFA last time around, but I do see a flaw now that would have explained the reasoning! I will reach out to billing and see, thank you very much for a quick answer!
