Funny. I don’t see the Jailer torturing any of them. Aside from our friends, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
It all seems like hell because were the bad guys. But that’s ok, because as soon as we win we can correct the WoW history books and be the good guys all along.
Take a look at the Maw. There are Souls being tortured everywhere. Souls being hammered on anvils, souls half buried on the ground, souls in cages, souls on fire, etc.
But all of that is only necessary while they are still souls. Once they are Shades, they basically suffer by default and you don’t have to do anything.
“Souls deemed suitable for service among the Mawsworn are broken down to their barest essence. The resulting creature forms a black shade, devoid of all individual will.”
And then those armored guys we see working for the Jailer are just Shades stuffed into suits of Armor.
These Shades don’t need to be tortured because their very existence is torture.
If your idea of heaven is “getting your skin removed and then being magically enslaved while you suffer forever because they removed your skin”, then sure.
Because that’s essentially what happens to people who go to the Maw.
Well hell, my class poked their eyes out. And that was just part of the job interview.
These guys get to level their blacksmithing, possibly without making vender trash. Maw mounting, without having to climb hundreds of floors. Hell, it was over 70 floors we climb just to get their cool looking skins.
Instead of thanking me for freeing them from their imprisonment, some of the mobs will just say something great about the Jailer. Seems a tad off. The Maw is bad heaven.
Heck, some of the best and most expensive herbs grow there and your best mining nodes!
According to Darion Morgraine the Dark Magic of the Maw restores sanity to the Shades of the Maw.
The Jailer breaks the Soul down into tormented incoherent Shades then uses the Death Motes(made of the same energies as the Shades themselves) gathered during the Shade creation procedure to heal the pain making them coherent and loyal to him…
To attain the paradise the Evil Soul desires it must be first made to break before it is repaired as a loyal servant to the Jailer!
Well this is why Sylvanas is trying to break the system so to speak
Quite frankly, it’s a crap system
Although we’re told there are “infinite” other afterlives. We’re only seeing a small portion. But if the others are anything like the 4 we’ve seen, I can totally see why someone would want out of the system.
Who cares about the morality, the game is just not enjoyable to play at all. This is the only expansion I’ve played where it feels like I’m not playing wow anymore.
