Shadowlands has to be the DUMBEST grind I've ever done

That’s ok. I’m not denying your experiences.

I’m just saying that in the future, as Shadowlands gets older and older, more and more people will show up claiming Shadowlands was S tier.

Right now that’s a minority.

Bastion was the worst part about Shadowlands, change my mind.

the lore alone will keep me from ever calling it s tier

id consider the END of SL (so S3-S4 when all the QoL changes hit) a solid… B.
That score is already nostalgia goggled and I really like the mounts/mogs from there lol

It’s rare day you actually see someone defending a pile of burning :poop:

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say they were trolling.

It was bad but not Ravenholdt bad.

The story was the worst part of Shadowlands. God-like beings who were incredibly stupid and/or weak when the writers needed. Sylvanas good/bad arc. Out of nowhere villain who just goes out like a you know what. Utterly pathetic “ending” to 20+ year old Arthas storyline. Take your pick.

Oh, by the way, some of those pieces have a rep requirement to use on alts. Want to use those moth backpacks on multiple toons? Grind the rep on all of them.

Have fun.

Rank 2 anima conductors in all 4 covenants.

Yup. I was broke and stupid back in vanilla so rather than buy 100% riding on my alt I decided it would be a better use of my time to grind out the cat since it was a 100% mount that only required the 60% skill. Then continuing my chain of idiocy I did it a second time because it had been nerfed and I wanted to see how bad it was now. Still not the worst grind I have done in this game but just because some things are terrible doesn’t mean they should remain terrible.

I’ll be that guy, SL during SL was not too bad, you just played the game and got the rewards along the way. As someone who earned almost everything I wanted from SL during SL, I did not feel like there was a grind at all.

But like every prior expansion, going back is just terrible.

I mean subscription during SL droped so hard that they stopped publishing them and introduced 5 different versions of the game to keep the subs and money floating.

But yeah I enjoyed SL. At least there was something to do (longer) than in Dragonflop.

Well that was one claim. Another was that subscriptions dropped around the time Cataclysm came out. Then it was WoD, then BfA although people said the decrease was constant although somehow it wasn’t Legion’s fault. One thing everyone has in common? No data to back up any of this.

Then there are the other claims as to why subscriptions are down which include the following. All of these were written by people in this forum with the claim that this is THE REASON why subs are down.

  • When WOW was first created it was one of the only D&D like MMOs around. Now there are hundreds of new ones each year.
  • In an industry where 5 years is middle aged and 10 years is an antique, WOW is an 18 year old game competing with tons of new technology.
  • The trend these days is toward social media and mobile where WOW doesn’t play well.
  • Some say it’s the story writting particularly in BFA and ShadowLands.
  • Or it’s the toxic culture of the players that’s causing people to leave.
  • Others point to specific abilities like “borrowed power” that have been taken away.
  • Next we hear that it’s time gating
  • Death. Wow players aren’t getting any younger, and younger players don’t share the same attraction to MMOs… particularly ones dominated by older people.
  • The questing requirements are not long and grinding enough.
  • The questing requirements are to long and grinding.
  • They heard Activision say: “If you don’t like the game, go play something else.”
  • or… “The game is not meant for you”.
  • SL had too many mobs close together.
  • The Horde/Alliance cold war.
  • The China fiasco.
  • No regular flying at expansion launch is what killed the game.
  • Dear Blizz you cut this feature I loved so I quit.
  • Fed up with the loot system/RNG
  • Want an MMO with less focus on dungeons and raids
  • They want RPG content
  • No player housing
  • Long server down times.
  • People don’t like power systems.
  • LFR !!!
  • WoW is too hard core.
  • Blizzard cut employee bonuses by 58% despite getting a strong fiscal year.
  • In 2009 WoW = 5 button rotations, in2023 WoW = Massive 20 button bloat rotations.
  • Blizzard managers have changed priorities from creating a good game to making money.
  • Ending 10 man Heroic/Mythic
  • The developers turned WoW into a lobby action RPG
  • The content is throwaway/obsolete by the next patch
  • Mythic + is killing Wow
  • And now: Unique items have a sub cost
  • And the number one reason people no longer like World of Warcraft …
You can cook food but you can’t eat it

i want the cloth ardenweald sets so bad but i generally do reps on human toons for obv reasons

so my cute clothy elves are sol i guess

Welcome to the Sad Lands.

We’ve been whining about these things since 9.0

Yeah. It was incredibly ambitious in that regard and I think that far-reaching ambition - revealing all the puppet strings behind the most iconic Warcraft events - was hard to swallow.

Shadowlands did have high initial sales (due to hype), but it objectively almost killed the game. The active players dropped lower than they ever had in the past. That’s objective fact, not just “forum echo chamber”.

Dragonflight had a bit of a slower start (due to Shadowlands almost killing the game), but it’s the first expansion since WOTLK to gain subscribers as the expansion went on, rather than losing them.

I still can’t bring myself to go back to that module to even shove the anima my alts are carrying into whatever the anima bank is.

The individual zones were okay, the zone stories were good, overall?? Awful experience.

ZM to me had me very close to quitting. It killed all enjoyment of the game and I had to go pure ‘meta’ and forget my in-character mentality I enjoy when playing a toon and just do the grind to gear my toons up. That’s all it was, a soul-less grind.

I still have anger from that.

DF has been okay. Some good bits, fairly alt-friendly if it’s a non-crafter, but a bit quest chaotic. Overall, better than SL. The best thing I like are the little stories here and there and the little touches that remind me of when I first started playing: the little sillinesses one could come across or discover.

I keep hoping it gets better, I guess we’ll see.

Well yeah TRUE but SL expectations were so high because people saw Bolvar and ICC#2 that subscriptions skyrocketed, they soon fell down to the current state, so this tell you people werent pleased with expansion.

The Horde lucked out when they gave us the Venomhide Ravasaur to be the Wintersaber equivelant. No rep grinds. Just complete 20 Daily quests, collect some craftin mats, and farm 80g. The first quest to get splashed with the Venomhide’s poison was annoying, but once that quest was done it was relatively smooth sailing.

You are correct, I didn’t even try that one. However I heard it was the worst!
