I think you are right in the long run, they’re probably just done with Archeology, similarly like they were with First Aid. I just think there was a lot of potential in revitalizing it. I’m just hoping that they’ll go deep into the past lore of the Shadowlands, even though it looks like they only want to focus on the future.
I wanna see books scattered all over the place. This is the Shadowlands, we neeeeed information. It’s a whole different realm than ours! We neeeeeeeed this.
I’m fine with it , maybe it needs an entire expansion on the shelf to be re-thinked/re-worked . Make it actually interesting to farm , maybe change its name to something that wont be limited to digsite/fossil/relics and include more sources .
Which is a bummer because I’ve certainly sunk a few days of playtime into it.
They’re taking something that was 100% optional and not putting something back in. I’d chalk that as bad. (EDIT: My bad, you were replying to something else entirely, I am the dumb)
On the other hand it makes Alchemists that can make the sandstone drake a limited quantity going forward.
Frustrating to lose another non-combat side activity from the game, but I’m not really surprised.
I have 6 or 7 alts maxed out on archeology in BfA, but losing that +5 skill per solve really stings for alts where it’s basically just a little bar to fill with no reward (except maybe an extra pet to sell).
I thought that the Legion version of Archeology was pretty good at the time.
A little more targeted in the sense of having questlines, and the lore felt more substantial for that reason.
But the lore and items can be there anyway. At some point the question becomes: Do we need a separate feature for this? Why is it a secondary profession?
Even with First Aid, it was possible to come up with cool stuff that could be rolled into it. My suggestion a while back was buffs and bonuses specifically for world content (not usable in instances).
But there are other ways of providing that sort of bonus, so instead of trying to justify First Aid’s existence by adding new stuff, the devs removed it.
I could see the same logic applying here. The cool part of archeology can mostly be delivered in other ways. Or at least the highlights.
All the little random events that could pop up were amazing.
But I have mixed feelings about the quests. They felt … I don’t know quite how to describe it … a bit upside down. I can’t get over that one of them (with the goblins) had no actual use of the skill at all … which was just bizarro-world for a heartbeat of motivation for the profession.
I agree, it seems to be the afterthought of all the professions.
There have been a number of zones throughout the game since the introduction of the profession where there were no digs. It seems that they just don’t want to put in the design effort.
If you don’t want to make a profession worth doing, guys, then take it out and create one that is.
I’m ok with it going away. It was tacked on to begin with after the path of the titans thing didn’t materialize for them. They haven’t done anything new or interesting with it in years. You max it out and finish the rares in a month and forget it exists for the next 23 months. Time to replace it with something more interesting.
