Shadowlands AOE cap is already breaking old content

So this means places that have AOE baked into their mechanics past 5+ are also effected. Nyalotha scarabs as a HUGE example, followed by the twilight cultist during Vexiona, maut’s scarabs as well.

To just quote one of the comments in the reddit…

I don’t get why they can’t just make this conditional for M+ and leave everything else the QUACK alone. They’re taking M+ meta = WoW meta, when it’s far from the bulk of players activity.

Or they could just remove the current caps that some specs have :man_shrugging:

Then what’s the point of the AOE cap to begin with? And if that’s the case everyone would flood over to the capless AOE classes.

Ehhhh that’s why I said remove the AoE caps current specs have…so there would be no “one spec” to flood to

Misread, but I gotcha now.

But seriously…This is a QUACK Show if i’ve ever saw one…I do not wanna spend 20min spamming divine storm because it can’t kill everyone in firelands, twilight citadel…ICC…ECT

I said this when aoe cap was first announced lol, spamming whirlwind for 10 minutes to kill mobs isn’t fun.

I thought I read something about diminishing returns on aoe after a certain point, so you’d still hit everything just for less damage, which would have been cool for situations like OPs because it would still be enough damage to one shot the mobs.

I guess that never went through or was just a dirty rumor. :frowning:

aoe caps are a joke just like the gcd change that no one will like. its another example of fixing what wasnt broke for no reason.

AoE cap might actually be the worst addition to Shadowlands.

Risking ruining M+ which was by far the most popular addition to the game in recent years for absolutely no reason.

There is 0% chance they balance it well.

GCD, AoE cap… they got a bunch of boomers making the game whose reflexes and eyesight are starting to slip

I think FFXIV is going to see a big influx of new players with SL. Good to know Blizzard is helping FFXIV out.

Gotta love the forced slow down. They’re already copying shi-t that FF14 has, soon they’re gonna scrap this because of “feedback” and just put in the scaling AoE system lol

Honestly, I just can’t wait for AoC.

Actually, if AoE cap hurts players tmog and mount farming… maybe enough people will realize its a bad idea and it won’t just be handwaived away as a “min maxer problem”

Good thread OP

The best part is there are a tonne of uncapped spells like Mind Sear for Priest. Hilarious

Even DND got added to the target cap today LOL

I don’t see any problem, took him 4 GCDs to clear that pack… unless you’re implying 3s of “wasted time” is game breaking.

Quiet you. :stuck_out_tongue: Leave spriest alone.

You don’t see any issue of wasting gcds to kill a pack from content we’ve been farming for 12 years?

You guys will really defend blizzard over everything won’t you.

That’s an unfortunate side effect but the AoE combat loop design has just got out of hand to the point of extreme absurdity. Just YOLO in, tank everything and AoE Dog pile.

It’s silly, absurd, simple, lazy, boring and we don’t question it because it’s just the way the combat has devolved. Swing a sword and it magically gains energy linear to the number of people in front of you.

Combat in this game has reached the logical end of the road with cult of the damage meter.

An Elemental Shaman would’ve wasted as many GCDs getting through, why should mdps receive special treatment?

I would literally have to stand there and just spam crusader strike and divine storm to kill packs of enemies. And since divine storm is a holy usage…It’s going to take other class significantly longer to clear stuff like this because they are limited so.

Simple answer? Remove aoe cap for old content.

Consecration is now baseline. Next question.
