I was in Ashran the other night when I was teleported, along with a few others, to a nice little cage we couldn’t escape from. Most of the people had no idea what was going on. Hopefully, this ability does not carry over to DF.
The entrapment techniques with Shadow Rift used by some people are absolutely unacceptable. In many cases people are teleported into terrain that is unescapable. This can literally take the player out of the BG match for the duration of the game. Additionally, you can be teleported to an to place with dead area. Which disconnects you from the game.
Unfortunately the exploit has become so well known there are tutorials about how to do it.
Its pretty obvious this should not be in the game. How some classes have abilities nerfed and Shadow Rift remains untouched is rather strange. As the exploit is completely unacceptable and is no different than cheating. Please Blizzard be sure to purge this ability before the launch of DF.
Here is a link to a video that shows the exploit and how it is used for those who are unaware. Based on the peoples reaction in Ashran, I am sure there are many. Shadow Rift
Indeed Shadow rift is the most exploited and broken game design ever created to grief and ruin gameplay. No idea how it made it live. You can completely take people out of the game literally and DC them in a feedback loop.
You can teleport FCs off the map, trap players behind statues. The list of how this can be exploited destroying gameplay is very very long.
Things like this can’t exist and is only used in malicious ways. It can’t be justified. So remove it.
What you’re describing in Ashran is a paladin ability granted by books. A certain paladin who is a Narduke menace loves to do this to the AA so they can steal the AA. Like Alec said, scroll of town portal is how you get out. But you do have to be out of combat to use it.
In the past, it was definitely one of the most broken spells in the game, but Blizzard as of 9.2.5 has stealth-nerfed so many spells including Shadow Rift.
Back then, you were able to use Eye of Kilrogg conduit to place your Demonic Circle damn near anywhere, even floating midair and as someone else described, off the edge in Twin Peaks. Eye of Kilrogg conduit was heavily nerfed to include some of the following:
EoK needs to be within LoS of the Warlock.
EoK can’t be moving/floating while placing it, or it’ll just default to placing it on top of the warlock.
A huge stealth nerf to Shadow Rift already mentioned by Alec:
If players ported are in a stuck spot (no wiggle room to move) and don’t move more than 5 yards after being ported, they will be teleported back to their original location after 20 seconds.
It’s been nerfed plenty. Maybe give it a longer cooldown? I don’t know. I think its a neat idea though.
I never actually did it myself (too inconvenient to use as Alliance), but I watched the video he linked a few months ago.
The Pally thing is a different cage.
So you know how Ashran has a neutral gy? The market graveyard? It isn’t functional in the epic version, but its functional in the classic ashran brawl.
I see a few cages that you’re talking about, but from my understanding and after just being in an Ashran myself, the cages have no collision from the inside.
Even if you manage to get inside of it like I did (door of shadows allowed me to get inside of it), the cages have no collision from the inside and you can just walk out. Collision is only on the outside.
really wish they would stop doing this and post 100% of these changes every time, not only do PVPers base strategy and play around how certain spells work, but going to press a spell in a critical moment and finding it no longer works is bad as it causes the player to lose trust that the game will act according to their input. additionally it gives the impression that the devs are petty, immature, and target players for nerfs out of retaliation and spite, as official changes get graced with blue text, so unofficial changes could be a petty dev in the background making changes behind the back of the team.
