Recently in Wrath Classic, there is a spreading of a WeakAura used by Shadow Priests to intentionally freeze the game in order to achieve the “perfect clip”, one that achieves 0ms delay after casting a spell (Mind Flay, Vampiric Touch, Devouring Plague, etc). I believe this is done by changing settings in the WA to something similar to the player’s world ping, so the WA can use a min/max ms delay window to stop the player from pressing any additional buttons that would otherwise mess up and “clip” an early Mind Flay tick or cast a new spell instantly after one finishes so there is ZERO delay in between pressing your buttons. If the world’s best Shadow Priest used this, even they would see an increase of 200+ dps, so the average player or even worse than them can expect to see upwards of a 400+ dps increase by using this. This wouldn’t be a big issue if it only helped someone by maybe 10-30 dps, sure, but a gain of hundreds of dps by a WeakAura script is unacceptable.
This is essentially cheating to anyone who uses this WA. Not only does it cheat in the game but it cheats the player’s ability who’s using it. No longer do they have to rely on their own reaction time, which is essentially what makes or breaks a good/bad Shadow Priest. Now they can use this WA and have the game played for them by freezing the game to become the “perfect player”, similar to a bot.
Similar to the Feral Druid clearcasting WA, which had buttons pressed for them in Ulduar when it was around, this is a massive DPS increase to have a WeakAura play the game for them. The command or in-game scripts this WA uses needs to be altered to no longer make this WA work.

Interesting find. Not sure if they can do anything about this as long as the person is actually needing to press a button for the spells to go off, delayed or not.

The tldr is you clip at 2 ticks when you need to refresh VT/DP or if mind blast is available.
There’s more nuance to it in the sense that you can plan further in advance how many ticks your next x mind flays will be in relation to your dot timers

The thing is here, the WA is calling functions that are allowed by the game, but I think they’ve stumbled onto a function that should be protected if it allows them to freeze the game until MF finishes channeling. This is less of an issue in Retail because MF isn’t a huge dmg source and when you clip one MF into another, it doesn’t stop the ticking. It just refreshes the duration on the channel. But this is something that should be looked at in classic.

You can have fun with that botted infestation. i dont judge myself based on having more than 1k+ arena games in a season on a MMORPG minigame thats 15+ years old. I just have fun. Ya know… fun? Like owning narcists like you in places outside the arena. 1v1. The way it should be.

There are already rotation helper weak auras for other classes; I don’t see how this is any different.
I would agree with other commenters that Weak Auras is too powerful of an addon (speaking as someone who likes and heavily uses it), but Pandora’s box has already been opened with it.
There is a reason that retail raid encounters are designed with addons like Weak Auras and DBM in mind.

There is a big diff with addons telling you what keys to press lighting up on your hotbars or showing you a order on an WA overlay
vs litterally abusing the game and causing lag to clip/increase dps…it’s no diff than people lag hacking in warcraft 3 and starcrafbrood war back in the day
or any fps, it’s legit should be bannable…
or people lagging themselves so they dysnc and people on the other side see them flying everywhere and cant hit them…it’s 100% bannable crap crosses the line even if its in pve its still awful
warcraft log community is sooo cringe, the lengths they will go to just to see “parses” go play retail, some clown world crap, no one cares you do dmg on a old expansion that’s easy to clear
and blizzard has blocked WA functions before as they were being used to abuse the game…and used in some 3rd party hacks

Minigame? You realize the entire game is balanced around 3v3 arena and it is the end game for pvp? Objective fact btw.
Arena is fun when you aren’t hardstuck wood rank. Its the most fun part of wow for everyone I play with. Pve being a means to gearing for bis pvp.
The way it should be lol. The game isnt balanced around duels. Its rock paper scissors in 1v1. You can break the mold and outplay a worse player, but specs have hard counters. I like duels, at one time was the main content I played for, but dont take it serious lol cause it isnt.

the sad truth about wow is that… “Blizzard never fix exploits they’re aware of until they see too many players abusing it” & the funny truth is… “there are many exploits than you can ever imagine but you haven’t witnessed them yet :P”

It’s not a hack, by definition. It isn’t botting, either. Many Weak Auras are kind of a grey area, and this one falls into that. It makes the game easier for the player, and improves performance. But that can be said of Deadly Boss Mods, etc.

Cut the bs, this is effectively a bot script. There’s nothing even remotely resembling grey here. The addon is automating something that the player is required to be doing.
Imagine if people tried, in real life, as hard as they do in a videogame…
