I’m thankfully shielded from this, because I don’t pvp, trade chat has been disabled for roughly a decade, I only raid with my guild and no one talks in groups in lowbie dungeons.
I honestly think people are trying to see what the social contract will do to them, not realizing this is the same set of rules we’ve always had, so they’re just mindlessly pushing buttons like a 12 year old.
I dont believe “flirting” is what this about in the slightest and if you have people telling you that your “flirting” is making them uncomfortable then you may need to look inwards and examine what you are saying to them and if it is something you would actually say to someone in real life face to face.
It is and they do ban people for it. If the person you reported hasn’t been banned after a few days it’s safe to say that your interpretation of sexual harassment doesn’t meet their interpretation of it, and their interpretation of it is very broad since all the Cosby Suite stuff came out.
Blizzard employs Game Masters to handle billing, account, and harassment issues. The only thing that is automated is a squelch, which is then reviewed by a GM and depending on whether or not there was an infraction the penalty is either upheld or overturned. The ‘it’s all automated’ belief is incorrect and continues to be spread around.
I believe most direct interactions with GMs these days are through live chat, or, if needed, a callback. They do occasionally chat with players in-game, but not as much as they used to. It depends on the issue, really.

You think that in a World and an environment that is all bolstered by sex, this isn’t expected? People will be people and they will do this all the time. I get into SFO general in WRA and its literally all these people spamming certain words which makes me wonder if they are sexually repressed animals on drugs, chained in the basement of some mental institute at all times with a computer terminal for access in order to dislodge what’s on their minds; that they would otherwise scrape off and carve on walls using their nails if they couldn’t.
The simple solution is to leave the channel. Works like a charm. If only Wow had a /mute all for certain guilds or certain accounts, it’d be even better.
Where do people manage to find all these awful people who do awful things in chat and why is reporting them, blocking them, and moving on with their lives not an option? Most people i meet in game are pretty chill. Like do people not realize that just because someones saying something doesn’t mean they have to react to it?
There is a line, the problem is you don’t get to decide what that line actual is. Just because you think they might have crossed it doesn’t mean Blizzard does. And to be fair, you have no clue who is and is not being punished…
