Serious question: What % of players should have access to BIS gear?

what do the people who don’t like/refuse to do m+, raid, or pvp need bis gear for?

Very well stated! Probably doesn’t go over well with the children in adult bodies that were coddled by helicopter parents giving them “full” awards for showing up at junior sports events.

100% of players.

By which I would say that gearing should stop around the normal raid level… if not LFR. Everything beyond that should be not an upgrade numerically, with the only changes being cosmetic.

Why?

Players who are better at the game don’t need better gear, they have the knowledge and ability to perform higher without the gear with bigger numbers giving them an even bigger advantage.

Conversely, lower performing players actually do need those gear upgrades - they lack the “skills” to make up the difference. Coupled with runaway stat-inflation in this game, it’s just created a colossal and ever-widening gap in terms of final output between the different “tracks” of gear & content.

Alas, never going to happen. Because Blizz is reliant on having gear as a perpetual carrot-on-a-stick for this game’s design… which is just tragic. Players would be far happier if they didn’t have the game constantly nudging them towards the next upgrade. Either way, it’s impressive that this design approach has taken this long to start imploding.

… also, I’m surprised I’m still able to post here with an expired sub.
Maybe. We’ll see if this goes through.

Perhaps you have “active game” time still left on your sub (or even on an EU account you forgot bout)? Don’t need a sub to post, just a non-zero active game time balance (if I un-subbed today I’d still be able to post for another 4 months as I buy 6-month blocks for the discount over a monthly sub).

I mean. You just described the entire RPG and MMORPG structure.

Its not a Blizzard thing.

Its not imploding.

100% of people can reach max gear, but people create their own limits holding them back. If you only choose to pug, not forming relations with other players, those you can rely on to run with together regularly, learn each other’s play style, help others gear up not just focus on your own. Yeah that means giving up items you got to give another player to help them to help you.

Player attitudes to another person is also crucial, the best groups when they do something wrong, make a mistake, or wipe they don’t start talking each other down or throw insults at each other. They get up, rebuff, and go again. They talk it out about what they can do next time, try different strategies. What we failed today is a learning experience for the next time not rage-quit after 3-4 wipes, you keep going until you learn how the other in your group play, help them out, and make it repetitive clockwork.

“Active game time” ran out over a week ago, cancelled the (monthly) subscription at least a couple weeks before then. So it’s not that.

Probably just some bug in the system before it updates or something.
So I’ll just enjoy it while it lasts, I guess.

I like the current tuning of like…5% at the very end.

those didn’t give BIS to everyone though, made it a super low bar, but still not everyone.

Technically, ultra bis only dropped off mythic awakened sarkareth.

im with ya. but again, it all comes down to perspective. a lot of these guys honestly play for the gear. i dont personally understand that in a game that has so much more, but perhaps they just have different personalities. take destiny or destiny 2, for instance. i played those games entirely for the gear for the most part. there really wasnt much to push in terms of prestige or personal improvement beyond the given content. but wow is so different.

Somewhere between 0% and 100%

I like random weekly quests that drop Heroic or Mythic track gear that anyone can easily complete, like doing 5x dungeons etc… I also think people should be able to get random OP items doing world quests and what not. I don’t think it should be reasonably expected that ALL players get full top tier gear though. If you don’t mythic raid or do the highest M+ you shouldn’t have maxed out gear, period. The point of WoW has always been to find the raid, kill the dragon and loot the goods.

Better to be lucky than good, eh?

Percentages be damned. Anyone can get BiS gear from M+ vaults if they put the work in.

I look at it as time available to play, who are your friends and natural skill.

If you meet that trifecta, then you can have the best of everything.

I have no time
No friends
And my skill is dismal

Therefore, I live with welfare tourist gear. But the fun part is that next patch, catch up welfare will put me in todays BiS

So why bother? I’m here for the journey. Of course, the devs are too eager to worship the 1% hoping we’ll be jelly.

Far from it. It’s just dumb pixels.

No, there’s definitely a place you can’t get to without bending the knee to an amateur e-sports organization.
