I’ve been trying to create a new character and I’ve run into a series of problems. I can’t move the character even a step without being disconnected before the step even registers. I often getting disconnected simply trying to log into said character as well. They cannot move even an inch from where they started on creation.
Things I’ve tried:
• Disabling all addons.
• Reloading UI.
• Deleting and recreating the character (which prompted issues of its own but has since been dealt with).
• Using different means of movement (keyboard, mouse, etc.).
In case it’s relevant for some reason, the character is a Troll Shaman and I was hoping to level through Exile’s Reach, though I’m heavily reconsidering now.
Try a FULL UI reset. Going to your wow folder (retail or classic) and delete/rename the interface/cache and WTF folders. Then launch the game from anew.
Yeah. Big yikes. All my addons got wiped, including character profiles and such. Issue is still persisting. Guess I’ll fresh install since there’s nothing to lose now!
I’m sorry for your misfortune, Kai. Ironaxe and myself are not official forum moderators and we are just trying to help. I agree at this point a fresh install would be worth trying (what do ya have to lose, right?!).
Right! I hope that didn’t seem pointed. Fortunately, I did back things up not too long ago, so I’m sure the bulk of the data can be salvaged. I appreciate the attempt!
Use the support link at the top of the page here to access the online “stuck character” tool. It will move your character to a safe place. It usually fixes stuff like this.
You can also login to another character ingame and use the ingame version of the stuck character tool under the help menu to move any other character on the account to a safe place.
No worries, Kai! I understand this can be frustrating. I am not an expert but it may be worth trying over at the Tech support forum (I’m not sure but they have more information about addons and the like interfering with character creation).
The issue with using stuck character in cases like this is that it takes the character out of exile’s reach with no way back. If the goal was to do exile’s reach, it makes that impossible.
3 folders involved and you must be logged out to do it properly, actually - it’s usually not necessary, but I usually reboot after as well.
Then take another look. If you are getting LUA errors, absolutely is my first suspicion. Also, if any of your addons autoupdate - make sure to turn that off.
I appreciate the answers! After doing the full fresh reinstall, I deleted the character and recreated them. Instead of doing anything else, I immediately moved them and things started to work again.
