Every class needs something unique to stay viable in arena through the ups and downs of unaware tuning made by people that don’t play the game.
Unholy is constantly at the mercy of numbers tuning because it currently brings nothing to a game that demo warlock doesn’t already bring but passively better.
Obviously grip is the exception but that’s nowhere on the level of tools that give timeless viability. (Shimmer/poly) (scatter/trap)
Both unhdk and demo have chains, a zoo of pets, two stuns and high damage. But why slot a dk in your team when demo also brings you
Dk is only better when the numbers are tuned to far up. These upcoming changes are good but unholy needs a core mechanic that is on the power level of sanc/bop type abilities.
I personally think it should be necrotic strike that scales with your strength, that way pressure is higher when you have things like crusader proc and FM stacks.
Another option is heartstop although i know people hate it, this would 100% keep dk viable thru the ups and downs
Tldr demo is the same thing as unholy but better in every way. Give dk something unique to offer to a team
I think making Dark Sim actually usable (regular talent or baseline) could be a good option. The ability is super fun and can really distinguish a decent dk from an awful one.
I may be crazy, but instead of the screen clutter zoo, give them shape-shifting/cds to the various critters they summon. I want to see unholy dks go gargoyle and zip around or abomination and slap. Anything would be an improvement.
Demo needs meta back, but BM also needs something done to it. BM pets are worse than any other pets, but yano PvE so the class avoids all nerfs in PvP even though it’s pets have been crying for a lil nerf since s1.
I prefer frost but play unholy some as well and this is exactly why I played demo at the start of this season. Legit just better in every way unless playing 3’s with devoker. Idk exactly what dk needs but it feels like the class is never stable for long. It’s either overtuned or weak. Tbh unholy legit feels like a mess when I play it due to all the cd’s and wounds which are just old rogue combo points that they did away with 12 years ago because they were frustrating and sucked.
Nowhere as near as good as chains(best slow in the history of the game that also cannot be dispelled)
warlock cc is usually better peels than DK(especially demo with its cringe axe toss while ccd) but warlock doesnt have the only aoe undispellable blind in the game nor do they get amz.
I agree that demo warlocks are cringe and the game would be better off with them being completely gutted but I wouldnt say dk doesnt have anything unique!
necrotic strike doesnt work with the modern rune system, once every rune was the same it became incredibly hard to balance, it was either broken or garbage, if dks had to still actively manage runes to turn them into death runes in order to necrotic strike like it used to, then yes im all for it.
