Err, no. There’s just clearly larger issues at play here than work-from-home. Issues that probably date back years. As others have said, you generally don’t see an exodus of key top-level personnel like this from a company that’s doing great “in the real world.” The reason it’s newsworthy is because it’s highly unusual.
No! Bad!
You do realize they also hire quite a bit too right? Also, the title “Senior” isn’t only for one person. You do realize they have more Senior Quest Designers right?
Oh did you know many have left FFXIV, GW2, SWtoR, etc. also? People come and go in this field because they want to try new things and have a change of scenery. The companies then hire new people. Crazy huh? How many jobs have you worked at? How many people have left the company you worked for?
Oh absolutely… one would think the amount it takes them to do anything, they’d be laying golden eggs or something but still do the bare minimum.
Even if they didn’t quit, ion wouldn’t let these devs do what they need to do.
Well, if I had to make a guess, no one told them roosters don’t lay eggs.
Also, anyone who stays for more than 2-3 years at a company in this day and age is doing themselves a huge disservice and being dumb.
You can obtain a much more significant pay bump by simply moving to a different brand versus taking the paltry yearly increase offered by your current employer.
The days of the pension and sticking with the same company for 20 years is over. Those that still practice this (and that are young) just don’t understand the opportunity costs associated with that decision.
Especially now that the economy is in full swing on the ramp up post covid and the $15/hr min wage is starting to put a lot of future pressure as well as the labor issues seen across nearly every industry. It’s the perfect time to secure a better paying job.
I’D MAKE EVERYONE A PANDA
something is going on HQ and doesn’t look good.
Only if Druids can now be Pandas and we get new celestial forms. You do that and you deserve to be President of Blizzard!
Duh! And panda Demon Hunters! And paladins! Everything is panda!
Or you could get a career that is essential to society and affordable to consumers, then follow up with your own business, and take care of yourself.
Job hopping isn’t going to provide a good resume.
The issue has existed since Bretton Woods. People are only really paying attention to it now, but none the wiser.
QE policies kept the economy running on borrowed time, we’ve been pushing hardline QE none stop since Bush. It is all self inflicted wounds that can’t be postponed.
Only question I have is was it really a “hard decision” to quit this company? Seems as of late its a “shadow” of its former self hehehehehehe cries at what wow has become
It’s unusual in context of national labor trends over the years, but it is NOT specific to Blizzard. It has nothing to do with your gripe du jour or theories on how this one specific company is run. It’s a national trend.
It’s actually right in line with the national trends according to the Bureau of labor statistics. We’ve been at a negative business growth rate since 2008.
“Labor productivity—defined as output per labor hour—has grown at a below-average rate since 2005, representing a dramatic reversal of the above-average growth of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The productivity slowdown during these years has left many economic observers wondering why this situation has occurred and what factors may have contributed.”
Where an “old blood” took the helm as lead dev. Every single problem WoW has had after MoP, happened when Ion took the lead…
I feel like there’s probably a very easy answer to these questions.
Well inflation causes problems, you get inflation by pushing QE (Quantitative easing).
Inflation causes 3 problems for tax payers:
- Their purchasing power is decreased.
- The “value” of items “increase”
- They still have to pay taxes on top of that.
You can’t stimulate the economy by bailing people out and spending money, or even loaning money and charging interest. The word is usury.
You can’t have growth or competition if you have to compete with slave labor in china.
You can’t create jobs via the government spending (Debt) and expect people to not be in a financial hole.
Even if you cut taxes for one year, inflation will out pace that tax cut anyways, and it wouldn’t work as a world reserve currency due to Triffin’s Dilemma.
Been praying Ion gets shown the door. He alone is the idiot making all these moronic systems and (3 times the effort for 1/3 the reward) mechanics of Shadowlands. Was glad to see a class “balancer” left as well.
They really need to get people that have a clue in the door there and push out the old guard that is stinking up the game.
