Hi - person on Grobbulus trying to collate all the posts and data on this problem together.
Basically, exactly what you described IS the issue. Per Fwoibles post, the purpose of the shards/connected realms/virtual realms was to prevent people from losing their names, and the sense of character identity, and continuity, that come with them. Paid transfers DO work with Pagle as a target. But not any of the virtual realms. So, if you’re on Grobbulus, a server from 2019? You better hope, pray, etc., that your name isn’t taken on Pagle, which has also been a server since 2019.
Given that the whole idea of virtual realms was intended to AVOID putting people looking to transfer / consolidate into the position of “stay on a low pop or lose my name,” that’s issue #1 - Grobbulus isn’t being treated with the same concern or care as other realms, nor having the same opportunities to use a PAID transfer (since we didn’t get free ones) to at least try to keep our names, and our guildies together.
Issue #2 is that Fwoibles infodumped the FAQ post, answered 2-3 cherry picked questions, ignored the rest, and seems content with the “oops! Fixing this.” update days ago that A. Isn’t fixed (BSB and Arugal are still incorrectly locked) and B. Ignores the fact that his initial post isn’t playing out as he told people it would - the new virtual realms are now open to character creation, meaning they should also be open to paid transfers, and yet they aren’t.
Issue #3 is that EVEN IF there was a valid and consistent reason for paid transfers to not work on the virtual realms (there isn’t - neither the support article, the purchase page, any of the 6 pages of legalese attached, or blizzard support have ANY exclusions for transfer targets), there’s been zero communication for a week, despite numerous customer support tickets opened by players in my guild and myself, a handful of us reaching out to Fwoibles and Zirene, as well as @BlizzardCS via Twitter (since having your own forums for official posts and news is so blaisé, and people should have to find updates on twitter or random class discords or YouTube video comments, of course), multiple concurrent posts in this forum, active bug report issues logged on the GitHub tracker, and posts in the bug report and CS forums. It’s an absolute stonewall, with the questions being wholesale ignored.
ANY answer would be better than no answer, as at least my guild and I would be able to plan. But to post this master plan for a consolidation, run into multiple errors and omissions, announce a sale on services to take advantage of the players moving with race, name, faction changes, and then have those same advertised and pushed services not even function as advertised, with zero updates, zero communication, and seemingly zero care, from a dev team that described themselves as, direct quote, “All in on MoP!” is insulting, upsetting, and actively messing with our willingness to play.
We want to give Blizzard money.
Why are they making it harder to do?
