So, this is a topic that gets brought up a LOT and we’ve never had an official word on it. Most classes have a single stat, sometimes two that they crave more than anything.
Unfortunately, with the way itemization works, not every stat is available in a specific slot at the highest ilvl possible in that slot, especially with most final 2 raid bosses giving higher ilvl gear than the other bosses.
Reforging was removed because, if I recall the reasoning correctly, they didn’t feel it was right to make us use a third party program to sim the proper stats we needed. As pretty much after every piece of gear, we had to reforge our entire set to make the Hit/Expertise/Defense Cap.
However, those stats no longer exist. Is there a reason Reforging hasn’t been re-introduced to help fill in the gaps for secondary stats that are missing off some pieces? Or, in the case of my (I believe?) warlock in 9.0, nothing with any stat I needed would drop. I would only get Crit/Vers. The 2 stats I didn’t want. With reforging, I’d be able to reforge at least some of that to a useful stat.
Most people already sim every piece of gear they get regardless, so the reasoning doesn’t apply to them. And those who currently don’t sim, wouldn’t sim for reforging. They’d know their stat priority and simply reforge the weakest stat on the item to their best stat. On top of that, now that raidbots exists, simming is simply for everyone, though it may take a bit if you aren’t a subscriber.
I can’t think of a single down side to re-adding reforging, and I’d love to hear other Council thoughts on if they can think of one.
I’m personally not opposed to reforging coming back, however before that there needs to be a look at secondary stats as a whole.
Why is it that many specs have two (and quite a few with only one) secondary stats they truly desire? That’s a core issue. If it’s going to remain that way then just do away with secondary stats all together as they’re a trap.
I personally would prefer they remove versatility. There’s an entire topic in General Discussion about Versatility right now… lemme see if I can find it.
It has pretty mixed reactions on it.
Me, personally, I would prefer that they remove versatility and bring back Multistrike.
Multistrike was a neat secondary, was unique, and really was never bottom for any spec, because even just 1% chance for a spell to go off twice was good. The fact they removed it cause it was too similar to Elemental Shaman’s mastery is a bit silly. They should’ve just made it interact more fun with Ele Shaman’s mastery.
I tend to agree, but mostly because I think it’s a really boring stat. It’s just flat damage/DR, and it doesn’t really interact with any class kits all that much other than making numbers bigger (or smaller for DR). Crit, haste and mastery tend to be a bit more interesting. Some masteries are also a little boring in that regard… but a little bit of boring is good.
