Am also a Dwarven Hunter.
I’m sorry someone took Norman

Another RP-PvP server has popped into existence I see so there is a non-streamer alternative
I also experienced the tragedy of name-already-taken thus I have donned the cursed visage of Moki, wretched gnome jumble-name alter-ego of a once-proud Draenei
Chaos Bolt right now is the non-streamer RP-PVP server it seems which is good. Also is west coast realm like us
Nice that they added a new one so quickly!
I got Sef on all the servers I rolled on except the new one. Got Sefa there, though.
I did it, I won Season of Discovery. I got the character name Bates.
I got a decent name, logged in and immediately fought with 50 other people for wolf meat, many of which were verbally horrible people.
Stared at the screen and wondered why I was playing that version at all. So, I logged out, deleted the character, uninstalled and went back to retail.
Have fun kids.
The name “Thokk” is taken across all RP and PVPRP servers. I am no longer interested.
We’re on lava lash!! Feel free to say hi, I’m on illillliiiillllililllilllli
It really was amazing how quickly I lost interest when I couldn’t get “Norman”. I’m not sure what this says about me, but so be it.
Oh no, I completely understand. I’m the same way. When I first came to WrA back in Feb of 2010, it was taken. I watched the inactive character for months waiting for the deadline of when a GM would free up a name if you asked.
Then I took it and the rest was history. I still get confused for the previous player who owned the name sometimes.
They really need to come up with a better plan for the name situation on WoW servers.
There was a name I wanted a few years ago that was taken by someone who never played on the character with the name. I added them my friends list and they rarely ever logged into it. I sent an in-game email once asking about either a trade or paying gold for it and they declined.
They then spent over a year sending me an email once a month to remind me that I couldn’t have that name.
At that point, the name was so sour that I didn’t want it anymore.
Good God, what a dumpster fire of a human. The internet has some real classy folks.
It’s so cool to see the world full of people. Yeah, there are some cons to that too. But I’m liking stuff so far. Most people are being polite and grouping for somethings. It’s nice.
How long is the wait and is asking a GM different from a help ticket?
GMs don’t release names individually anymore, there is just a release of all inactive names every 2 years or so now (usually with the release of an expansion). I think the old rule was that GMs would release a name from an account which had been inactive for 6 months–I never did it, but I did come back to characters with changed names once, presumably because someone asked for the name.
Before I moved to WrA, my main was "Sefa’ – ‘Sef’ only came about due to Sefa being taken on WrA. I’ve now been Sef for longer, but the original name suffices. The craziest thing was trying ‘Sefa’ on MG at the end of BfA and it being available 0__0 so now I have Velf Sef on MG.
First Name/ Last Name/ Nickname WHEN, BLIZZ, WHEN???
The consolidation of most of the game’s population into a smaller number of larger servers, plus the average player having like 30+ alts now, does make me really want name reform lol. Back in the day it wasn’t a big deal to get a non-gibberish name but now it feels annoyingly hard to get something that isn’t a 5 syllable nonsense word with no vowels
Last names are hard for me because draenei don’t have them most of the time but, y’know… some kind of hidden numerical identifier, like we do for battle.net? I don’t mind being Miko#00001 if someone else wants to be a miko too, or Miko@mybattlenetaccount like ESO does or something
I’m really liking Season of Discovery, the new added stuff is really fun.
Also classic WoW really feels like an RPG and I can see how I got addicted all those years ago.
Just got level 10 on my hunter. I’m taking my time but I like the new added content. I also never did the Dwarf starting zone so honestly everything is new to me.
I’m going really slow. I haven’t hit 10 yet, but I should today.
Selling trade goods on the AH is decent for getting silver.
I stopped trying to get any more runes for the moment. I’ll do that when I cap.
I just hit 14. It’s been a blast to play so far. I knew I would love it, but the mystery of figuring out where and how to acquire runes has been really cool.
Something about vanilla WoW leveling is just perfect for entering that “flow” state where I can put on music or a podcast/video and let the hours fly by.
