So I purchased a set of shoulders on Season of Discovery, which you can only get one tier piece every 3 weeks. I intended to get the Shockadin shoulders, and when I looked at the shoulders, they had the right stats and the set bonus mentioned Holy Shock (the core of the Shockadin build), so I purchased and equipped.
I then IMMEDIATELY noticed the set bonus wasn’t for the damage set; it’s for the healing set!
I put in a ticket right away, but the GM’s have all responded with what seem to be canned responses. Obviously we’re not supposed to rely on GM’s to correct every single mistake, but this seems like a pretty honest, pretty understandable mistake. Thing is, this one mistake just cost me nearly a month of lost progress, and that is a HUGE bummer.
I don’t think there is anything the GMs can do to help you. The Classic Policy does not allow GMs to refund item purchases outside the in-game systems.
I believe you hit the nail on the head already. Unless there are technical limitations that I am not aware of. This seems to be a game mechanic + policy decision where players are enabled to make their own choices/decisions, but then a GM will not step in if a mistake is made.
Blues will correct me if I am wrong of course
Here is the Classic policy outlining what can and can’t be done in Classic from a CS assistance point of view.
Because everything a Game Master does, especially the manipulation of in-game items, is governed by policies and procedures.
For Modern World of Warcraft and Cataclysm Classic the majority of purchases for alternate currency can be refunded within 2 hours of the items purchase. So Game Master’s don’t assist there because our Game Developers implemented specific quality of life improvements that allow players to help themselves when they make a mistake.
Classic Era, which includes Seasons of Discovery, operates differently. They are under Classic rules, meaning that not all of the quality of life improvements that came to Modern WoW are in there, it is part of the classic experience. Sorry.
Is there a way to advocate to a change to said policy, though? I don’t feel like customer support is a “convenience”, seems weird to purposely restrict it in different ways from retail.
Generally speaking, we don’t want to create more ways where a Game Master would be required to intervene, so while you could submit a suggestion through the option in-game found under “Support” under the main menu, the odds of something like that happening are fairly minute.
You might focus on feedback/suggestions around providing similar quality of life options that the other versions of WoW already have. You might post that feedback in the Classic Community forum under General Discussion if you want to allow others to discuss the matter where our Game Developers can see it or submit it in-game.
Important context; because I exchanged the shoulders I was actually WEARING for my Scarlet Uniform (and mind you, I was IN New Avalon), I actually HAD to equip the shoulders immediately.
Still seems pretty messed up that NOTHING can be done about that : /
Well u have 2 choices u can post in general personaly id avoid that den of villany to convince the dev to change policy or use the ingame suggestion feature to do the same.
Blizzard expects that you’re paying attention and reading tooltips when making your gearing/purchasing/crafting decisions, and that you can accept responsibility for the decisions you made. If you feel these expectations are unreasonable, you’ll want to use the in-game suggestion tool.
While that’s a fair point, I don’t know that I agree that customer support is a “modern convenience/feature” that should be exclusive to retail. Like I said, given that it’s A) a new set that was only added a few weeks ago, with nearly identical stats to the healer set, and B) the vendor is in a hostile area with lvl 60 elites that pat and will kill you at the vendor, I don’t think it’s unreasonable that someone could make a mistake.
I don’t think anyone is arguing that players can’t make mistakes. But depending on the version of the game you play, there may or may not be a system in place to help with such mistakes.
In SOD, there isn’t one. If you think they should program something in, then that’s where the idea of posting in the right place comes in. Unfortunately, CS simply isn’t the right place for feedback for any version of the game.
And really, this is what players asked for when they asked for Classic. They said they wanted the old version of the game without all the modern conveniences. Sure that doesn’t cover every single person obviously, but the majority of the audience for classic wanted it that way. They would get up in arms when Blizzard announced something wouldn’t be exactly like it was in 2005.
