Season of Discovery Developer Update - Feb 27, 2024

IT WAS BUILT ON CLASSIC!!! They can sell it as a “new experience” all they want, but the CORE game is still CLASSIC and CLASSIC had 40 player end game. They could have made a “new experience” off of retail, off of BC, off of Wrath. Any of those would have the smaller raid sizes you are talking about. The only one that DIDN’T is Classic.

why would he want to do that a guild is like a family to most player and to many people just cause drama and split

i want it to be 10 man except molten core thank you

Yeah but every single 40man at 60 in ERA is considerably easier than 10 BFD and 10 Gnomer with the exception of Naxx due to certain fights needing cordination. All 40mans do is up-scale the HP and time-in-raid etc. 25mans are the sweet spot. WoW raiding has always been like this. The bigger sized raids = more room for failure especially in Vanilla raids, those 40mans can be done by 10 good players but it just takes long

I think them making every 60 raid a 20 or 25man is amazing and for them to add mechanics and make them considerably harder

You forgot exp in bgs! We have to grind the rep anyway, you could at least let us level while doing it.

your right time is the key part no matter the size of the raid its the time factor most that want a bigger raid also want gdkp which is the biggest pay to win

The game is notorious for its end game 20 and 40 man content, yet your guild didn’t plan for any of it…?

You know the meme of the guy riding the bike, then he jams a stick between the spokes and gets angry at other people? My thoughts exactly.

How is an arbitrary raid size a core part of classic?

Come on Ziryus. That’s not really true though. Have any of the 10 player raids seemed “epic” to you? Did ZG? I know none of the BC raids I was in felt epic in the same way as the 40 player raids in Classic.

The primary aspect that the smaller raids bring is that it is much harder to succeed if one person messes up. The mechanics can be much more intricate at that level. I found that at the 40 player level the mechanics typically aren’t as difficult, but the bosses themselves are more punishing if the core group being tested don’t follow them. The raids are just different.

I had a guy trade me gold on 3 different characters buying his mats for epic helm.

Suspended.

5 days no answer on my ticket.

Chat logs before the trade are easily accessible.

Trade was like 50g…

Glad yall are having fun.

Been great missing out and being publically called a liar and gdkp supporter.

As someone who played through the early days of vanilla, tbc and came back for Classic / SOD here are some of my thoughts for the future of SOD. You guys are getting a lot of stuff right! Each hotfix / patch feels very much like the vanilla days, things feel fresh and fun! Which is great! I do feel like you guys need to think through things a lot more though in some areas. For example all the layering issues and bugs with Ashenvale ruined part of the experience and took a long time to correct ( There were still bugs by the end of the phase ). With classes everything makes sense with the buffs and nerfs, during vanilla that’s how it was, some classes one patch would be weak, others buffed, others balanced. This will never be perfect balance, which it shouldn’t be, every new patch or hotfix a different class shines ( Such as melee hunter ).

Here is my suggestions for the future of SOD to make it feel “Fun” to play

  • Dual spec ( Classes want to be able to do pvp and pve without a huge pain to respec ) Make it cost like 300g
  • Raids ( Please add new raids, I like the old content but have played it a million times and it’s not as exciting as something new ) ( MC 20 man with new boss scripting and loot might be interesting but not drooling over this )
  • We need more LONG epic quests. Give us something to work towards. Make the quests take 4 weeks to complete. Give cool rewards like a new mount, toys, epic runes, ect. People want something to progress towards that’s not always farming dungeons.
  • More cool supply crate loot. I have not turned in 1 supply crate… there’s really nothing I want to work towards honestly.
  • Quest hub ( Add a new quest hub with lots of new quests and turn ins )
  • Ashenvale ( You need to do something with this, it’s dead content now at 40. No one wants to go back or have any reason to do this now. Needs to scale with our levels, since most people are at 40 now. New rewards? Make the bosses drop some token to turn in for new loot. Scale bosses to level 40. Change timer to be a few times a day, every 6 hours and make the rep reward way higher )
  • Resilience pvp gear ( Even though I’m a huge fan of vanilla, Resilience gear would make the pvp scene a little more balanced. 1 shoting people is fun but even so, I like longer pvp fights )
  • Dungeon spam ( Maybe reduce amount of xp from dungeon mobs or do something to prevent aoe dungeon farming on mass scale… It’s the fastest way of leveling and burns people out, maybe nerf dungeon mob xp and boost questing xp )
  • Add something interesting to the old dungeons ( Add a new boss with new loot, add some new quests for the dungeons to keep people running dungeons, add new sections to dungeons, Add new chests that spawn throughout dungeons with unique items people really want )
  • World ( Give us more to discover! New tiny questing spots, new castle, new tower?, Anything! ) ( Something to make us say wow! )
  • STV (boost blood for solo players and reduce amount of blood lost)
  • Battlegrounds ( We need original AV!!! Back in vanilla it was epic ) ( Also maybe an unfinished Battleground or new battleground, that would be awesome! )
  • PVP world events ( Ashenvale and STV are a ton of fun! Please keep adding world pvp stuff, love it! )
  • Reduce layers ( World feels more alive, improve how many players you can have on one layer because it feels way more epic to be around and fight with a large group of people )

Excited for the future of SOD!

First off, thank you for everything the team is doing. Any criticism is preceded by countless thanks.

I cannot get behind the 1-39 100% increased experience buff, especially this early in the Season. In Classic, being max level matters, it’s as cool as having full end game gear. Watering down the achievement of leveling is destroying a key component of Classic.

I see portions of the community want this, so find a middle ground. For every character leveled to max, subsequent characters get a stacking 25% exp buff, capping at 100% exp. That way, you have earned that increased speed, and you have a shared experience with everyone in your “first max level character”.

Heck, tie it into an end game quest chain heirloom that grants the buff through X and X levels that you can mail to your tunes. Just make it earned!

Thank you again for all you’re doing!

Stop. Just stop. The raids are built around 40 players because the mechanics (not MC) typically test one or several groups ability to hold up under massive amounts of damage. 40 player raids allow more players to fail that check while still allowing wins. They are easier mechanics wise. They make up for it by being more punishing in the damage department.

The main difference though is that everyone doesn’t have to be on point in a 40 player raid to succeed and that allows you to play with players who aren’t as dialed in and still have fun. At lower player caps, it becomes harder to do this unless the raid is tailored like BFD (my guild ran 9 players through that multiple times on both mains and alts). We might be able to do that with a 20 player MC as well. I am not sure we would be able to do that with a 20 person Naxx though.

Great on the 20man Raid, I’m looking for it. But blizzard please fix the Protection Spec of Paladin and Warriors, We don’t generate enough dmg to keep threat on raids now that you pumped every dps damage to the clouds. Holy Shield from paladin need help, it does not do enough damage and warriors use alot of rage to block instead of doing threat. Thanks for the increase on block value but when on Raid the bosses hit for 600-1000 and I can only block 40-50, is not even 5% of reduction that cost so much on talent point for players. The reality is that Tanks are going DPS spec to keep threat and dishing the shield spec because is jut 15% damage reduction and no significant Threat generation.

No point in playing for the first few weeks of any phase if they’re going to make things twice as expensive only to nerf literally everything halfway through the phase. Duly noted will not be buying epic mount or crafting anything until the dads cry and the price gets halved

Yes the bosses had more health, so all they have to do is tune the health proportionally to 20 people instead of 40 and viola same difficulty.

Thank you I think these are all good stuff coming up. The idea of focusing more on end game content versus leveling seems great since no one likes to level up. I would say that it’s important to keep in mind each milestone (level 40, 50, 60) for balancing since users will be spending a lot of time playing the game at 40, 50 60. It’s important to not just balance around level 60. I know class balancing is a huge task but it’s what SOD is all about, playing game content with new abilities is what makes this game fun. Cheers!

Also it would be nice to compensate players that paid the full price for mounts, not sure if it’s possible though

If we don’t have 40 player raids the classic experience is truly lost. Molten Core being 20 is a shame, should have been 30 to prep people for 40. There should be no rewards from a 20 player raid that are equal to a 40 player raid. Also just bumping the power of gear and giving us retail abilities isn’t really much of a discovery is it.
