Season 2 items no longer upgradeable

You could still run LFR to get the LFR appearances.

Also, you could still run normal to get the normal appearances.

Nothing has changed there except you can’t get the normal appearances from LFR, but both of these tints are still obtainable in game.

some of you seriously thought you’d be able to upgrade s2 gear to s3 gear? Things haven’t worked that way since ever. It’s unfortunate though that we can’t continue to upgrade our gear within an old season.

I don’t understand why they disabled gear upgrading for season 2 items, it doesn’t make any sense to me, would have made farming old xmog so much nicer, really hope they reconsider this decision.

I know WoW is all about the infinite grind; with each new patch making gear from the previous irrelevant. But this one was particularly brutal. I expected the old gear to stay relevant for a while. Maybe even make the old higher tokens easier to acquire so maxing it out is simple; whilst still introducing new gear and new tokens. But to turn the old tokens into junk was a blow.

When Forbidden Reach first came out, they introduced a new token to allow further upgrade of existing gear. I liked that. But then, it wasnt a season change.

No, but it would have been nice to be able to FINISH upgrading the things we already had, to the levels they were able to achieve. Now they’re stuck at whatever level they were because the currency got greyed out.

Fortunately it looks like the dreamsurge tokens did get upgraded, so I don’t have to discard the ones I had set aside for alts. It looks like Time Rift gear also got boosted.

As of yesterday the Researchers event was still dropping season 2, as well as the Fyrakk assault. Hopefully they get upgraded next week.

Personally I could care less about gear upgrades. I still have several (no useless) Dreamsurge Chrysalis that I’ve been working on to transmog looks (no upgrading, just the basics). Now I can cover a repair bill fi I do not get hit too hard. It would be nice if they could at least be used for cosmetic options at this point.

Just do the zone and get the new gear? It drops literally constantly.

New zone gear not going to help if you’re looking for older transmog items

This has happened every new season.

You’re aware that they have done that as well on season 1 right. Not like you wont be replacing them soon as season 3 starts

Not what I’m talking about, though I have every intent of obtaining it (and spending the currency asap now).

What I am talking about. Learn the look then vendor/destroy/de it right after. Even if I could only purchase a ‘cosmetic’ item it would be better than the current situation.

What is stopping you getting older gear?

The OP was complaining about not being able to upgrade old gear. I assume as you increase the ilvl it isnt changing the appearance.

Incorrect.
Upgrading Aberrus tier gear would allow you to get Normal mode from upgrading LFR, and Mythic from Heroic.
and you could get Heroic Aberrus gear from the mega dungeon. You can still convert the mega dungeon gear to Heroic Aberrus gear with the Revival Catalyst, but you can’t upgrade that to Mythic.
RIP

You can still get the same appearances, just nowhere near as easily.

I’m REALLY sick of this too. I thought they had EXPLICITLY expressed a desire to no longer just throw things out on a regular basis, but they have repeatedly shown in this expansion that this is not true. They made Forbidden Reach obsolete, they made Zaralek Caverns obsolete, and now they’re making the upgrade of season 2 tier gear obsolete.
JUST STOP

I caught wind of the item level increase and scrambled last week to get all the LFR versions of Aberrus purchased. Unfortunately for a couple classes, I only had one character and could only get 8/9 of the set done leaving the bracers.

On ones that I had popped the token in advance and had the 402 bracer in the bag ready I could finish the set at LFR level as the existing gear didn’t increase. Unfortunately on the monk I had left the bracer as the dreamsurge token which did increase from 402 to 415. I’m kicking myself because I suspected it could be a problem but never made it back on before the reset. That 415 token gave the normal mode bracer now, so without a way to get a 402 wrist piece to complete the LFR set it will be incomplete until the raids become legacy. It’s not the end of the world just annoying.

The good news is that the normal mode Aberrus appearance should be easy to get with the 415 Dreamsurge gear. And I’m guessing the new Dreamsurge weekly chrysalis would now convert into heroic level appearance? TBD. Also Time Rift increased in ilvl so not sure how that converts.

I didn’t have a chance at getting the mythic tier appearance anyway, but it definitely sucks for anyone that was counting on using upgrade track to finish their transmog.

Sadly, both of those still convert to normal appearance in the catalyst, even though the item level is high. No way to get the heroic transmog through using the upgrade system on season 2 gear anymore since they have disabled upgrading S2 gear. Really wonder why they went to the trouble of greying S2 gear out and making it completely unable to be upgraded anymore.

Well duh. What did you think was going to happen? Old currency is old currency.

That’s a bummer. Doesn’t really make much since either. It’s a new currency for season 3, what harm would it do to allow people to keep their S2 crests to fill out xmog?

Death to nu nu

Oh no, that’s unfortunate. My 10.1.7 plan was to get all the tier pieces at normal via chrysalis and then upgrade to get heroic. Was going to be work intensive but possible without raiding. Sounds like getting the heroic appearance is effectively off the table for me until the raids become legacy.

On the plus side, it’s way less dreamsurges I have to do, since I can get the normal via the 415 tokens/dust.
