Scripts that scan the AH

What are people’s opinions on add-ons that essentially work like a bot?

Auction house add-ons? I highly recommend.

You mean the blizz approved 3rd party addons? Yea. They cool. Working as intended.

Do you mean TSM? It’s maddening when you accidentally post something for way lower than you intended and you get TSM sniped. But it’s within the rules of the game and it teaches a lesson that you hopefully will only have to learn once.

You feel my pain, and have actually given a response, fine sir.

Your opinion is clear from your distorted wording: you don’t like them.

But Blizzard likes them. Add-ons use the API, which Blizzard provides for add-ons. In other words, Blizzard CHOOSES what things an add-on can do and what things it cannot do.

In other words, add-ons “essentially” do NOT work like a bot.

A bot artificially imitates a human player. Add-ons call the API.

a scanner and a bot is like a wrench and an airplane.

Got it, add-ons that call the API aren’t ‘essentially’ like bots because they don’t imitate a human player, they out preform one by instantaneously purchasing items that meet a condition faster than a real person could. Got it.

its crime allowed by the police. but still crime.

Auctioneer and Auctionator have been in the game since Vanilla and, at least last time I played Retail, Auctioneer was still a staple addon.

I think everyone should be stuck with the default AH interface and suffer together. Or Blizz should have vastly improved it so people don’t need addons for the AH. AH addons with these types of functions are at such a ridiculous advantage that it’s not far removed from cheating.

If it was just an interface change, that’s one thing. But if there are scripts involved, I think it’s a bit BS.

I agree with that ^

It gives people who are familiar with an addon an incredible advantage.

Imagine how many people would have stories of that time they picked up an expensive item for cheap off the AH if addons like TSM were broken.

Here the OP displays his lack of knowledge concerning AH addons.

They are talking about mods that buy items off the AH while your not around. Not the auctioneers addons…

Yeah, Auctioneer is fine as far as I know. But TSM has scripting capabilities built into it, even though it also seconds as an AH interface. Think that’s what OP is referring to.

The unfortunate thing about this is, it creates a “if you can’t beat em, join em” mentality. A lot of people use AH addons because it’s the only way to be remotely competitive. But I guess that’s how it is for a lot of addons in terms of PvE and PvP too. Not a huge fan of that kind of culture though tbh.

No, they aren’t.

It cannot automatically buy auctions.

Scanning info isn’t a bot as far as Blizzard is concerned. The only “bot” behavior that causes issue are those that automate play within the game, that is anything that activates abilities, moves your character, etc.

Scanning logs, chat, and things like the AH are standard since-before-Patch 1.1 API concepts.

TSM is cool. sniper requires actual player input to react fast enough to buyout an underlisted auction. its fine.

@ [Tarrasque] Nice post dude, it’s just the sniping feature; people buying things out the second they’re posted for <$n is such a passive gold advantage over those not running this, it’s crazy.

Now combine that with a second account, that just does that all day, every day, and you’ve got your a Blizzard subscribed AH bot.
