I’ve been seeing a frequent screen flicker since playing Classic. I think it happens in wide open zones. Here is a gif of it happening in Desolace. I’m not sure what the problem is because I never had this in retail and I haven’t changed anything about my computer or WoW settings. The display driver is up to date. Thank you.
Posting the link for you. As a heads up, if you click the </> button at the top around a link, you can still post it; it just won’t be a hyperlink. Like so: https://gfycat.com/frigidjitteryisabellinewheatear
My gut is overheating; that looks like some corruption that I’ve seen from overheating in the past. However, you might have more luck in the Tech Support forum, assuming we don’t get moved over there.
I will add that I’m using a Razer Blade connected to a HP 25x monitor. This flickering doesn’t happen on the laptop screen when I disconnect the monitor.
If the resolution on the external monitor is higher than the Blade’s native screen rez, that could point towards overheating of the GPU, due to increased rendering workload. We do have recommendations for how to gather details about device temperatures:
If it’s exclusive to that monitor, it’s a possibility. Do you have another monitor to test? How about swapping from Displayport to HDMI (or vice versa if you’re already on HDMI)
THANK YOU! I am having the EXACT same problem. I am running a Vizio P55-F1 4k tv with a 2080ti and get this horrible screen flicker too. My video card trucks along around 40 degrees Celsius too under Ultra settings and a solid 60fps with no dips. I noticed turning off HDR on my tv and pc took away the flicker. But the colors look ultra washed out when you do that. You have to fiddle around with the wow client inside the game with it’s Contrast, Brightness and Gamma to get the HDR content look without running HDR on your computer.
Also, what’s SUPER annoying, is the “windowed full screen” client in WOW doesn’t properly list the correct resolution on my desktop tv screen. My resolution on my desktop is 3840x2160 and the WOW client lists it as 4096x2160 blacked out where I can’t adjust it.
I figured this out on my own since making this thread. Go to the physical buttons on the monitor and go into the video settings area. Turn off FreeSync and use a different picture setting. It will instantly fix this. I was very happy to finally solve it. (Not sure how to fix it if FreeSync is a must for you.)
Quoting for emphasis. I didn’t realize this monitor had freesync from what I had looked up about it online. Sorry I missed that earlier!
You’re not the only one who’s had trouble with freesync/flickering in WoW Classic/Battle for Azeroth. We’ve found a lot of the people with it have adaptive syncing technology. If you have gsync/freesync enabled on your monitor and your drivers are already as up to date as possible, turn it off and see if it works. If that fixes the issue, please report the problem to AMD or Nvidia depending on which GPU you’re using. It’d also help to know if disabling gsync/freesync helps you in this thread for our records, in case there’s something we can do on our end as well. If that fixes the problem for you, please comment below.
