So after running multiple dungeons gearing toons, I have to say, the gamma dungeons really are not good. I mean the only one that isn’t just punishing for the sake of being punishing are the halls dungeons. At least then you get a buff. But there are some dungeons… Like Culling of Stratholme, where if you are just unlucky with the draw of the group… You may not be able to clear the dungeon if you just have nobody that can clear the diseases… (while yes, there is the holy water you can use, but you do not have enough of it, and it’s really just too much to expect pugs to use it let’s be honest)
No random dungeon should be impossible to clear because you do not have the correct group comp… This is just a bad design. I hate Mythic+ in retail for similar reasons. Affixes are just not fun.
While I do like the idea of harder dungeons that give better loot, I don’t think they need all these affixes that just make them more annoying to clear. Just buff the health and damage a bit… The bosses have enough mechanics by themselves. These added mechanics often just make the dungeons feel broken at times.
Maybe I’m in the minority here… But what do you guys think?
That’s simply not true, at least to me it isn’t. The only Gammas that are punishing are the Nerubian dungeons (because you need to rely on other people) and the Mirror Images in the Blue Dragon dungeons (which isn’t as bad as it was before).
Everything else is fine, what’s so bad apart from what I’ve already mentioned?
It’s not even that complex, Oh I have the Ice debuff better move around so I don’t die, Oh I have the fire debuff now, better move onto ice so I don’t have a DoT on me and so I can get that haste buff.
It’s a problem that the ice damages you even while you’re moving (and it can crit you based off your crit chance), and also when you walk over it with the fire debuff and nothing happens.
And I the only one who’s had the entire group except the tank webbed at once, followed by the tank getting disoriented for 5 sec by the miniboss’s webs, and killed because they couldn’t use defensives or break us out? There is zero counterplay to that.
Webs would be fine if there was an internal cooldown of say 2-3 sec between people getting webbed.
i get so much Holy Water from looting the mobs that ended up macroing them to abilities for extra aoe damage. you definitely get enough, especially if you actually wait to use it and not immediately after getting infected since you’ll just get re-infected right after
And yes, you definitely get more than enough water. They were probably referring to the bombs, which you definitely don’t get enough of to one shot all the big elites, but you also don’t need to.
It significantly reduces the damage it deals, all that’s left is a healer to do their job. Walking over the ice with the fire debuff gives you haste and I know this because I’ve done it multiple times in a single dungeon. The only times where it doesn’t work is when the ice is about to disappear and even then the fire debuff isn’t really worth worrying about.
That’s literally how the mechanic works, what else do you do?
Keep walking around while you have the Path of Ice debuff, walk into the ice if you have the fire debuff, simple as that. If they’re taking enough damage to where they could die* then it’s your job as a healer to heal them.
Yeah, some of the more egregious issues were fixed. Getting the ice patch under you while stunned by the last boss was also a huge problem at first, but got hotfixed.
Funny enough the dungeon I have to quit often if the group is stocked with Turds is halls of stone because people can’t out dps the tentacle before they all get mind controlled.
None of the Gamma affixes should be hard at this point. most can be ignored, shut down by target macros, or if you get the troll ones, turned off entirely by the debuff.
the majority of players in them now don’t have a single gem, no enchants, haven’t specced properly, don’t CC, don’t interrupt spells, won’t stack on the group with web wrap affix, won’t kill mirror images, ect, and are doing between 1-2k dps.
I’m sure they’re all on reddit right now crying about gatekeeping, but the gate is literally a baby gate that they can’t get over.
