Been debating whether or not this is worth keeping up on certain fights. I don’t really know how I would go about tracking it’s effectiveness in realm time though.
Only boss I can really think of is Prince atm but unless we get screwed by infernal rng we have no issue downing him each week.
You want viper sting up on mana users 24/7. Maybe on a rogue/warrior but I think the mana could be used better. I typically don’t use scorpid on my hunter during any pvp fights unless I’m not using a lot of mana.
The primary – but not readily apparent – use of Scorpid Sting is to ‘dispel’ Serpent Sting or Viper Sting for CC purposes. Scorpid Sting also has some limited uses when soloing, specifically when soloing elites and you want to reduce the amount of damage your pet is taking.
In raids, though – nah. That is, back when we were much more limited on debuff slots.
Scorpid Sting is always worth using in any fight where the Tank gets punished by incoming melee hits. I get there is a bit of a mana sink involved and you lose some DPS maintaining it, but if you have Tanks that struggle a bit on Gruul, or Prince, or Mag, and later on any of the numerous nasty melee bruiser bosses, it can help. It won’t save you a wipe if they just lack the EH to eat the damage, but it’ll make the nastier spikes happen a bit less often which can help Healers a lot.
With Avoidance having zero diminishing returns in TBC, Scorpid Sting is incredibly powerful as we gear up. Right now it is still really good, but when we’re doing Illidan in T6 gear, it can push people up and over 85%+ Avoidance and that’s ridiculously strong.
