Scaling in older instances is broken

Warcraft 3: Reforged is what truly made it clear this people are not the same Blizzard of old, but a bunch of folks using their carcass to abuse and destroy the decades-old reputation of Blizzard. For all the horrible things done in old Blizzard (Afrasiabi, for example), they at least knew how to develop video games. The current guard has all the negatives of old and then some, and almost none of the positive factors.
I mean, compare Reforged to the original WC3, and you realize the amount of features missing, lack of polish and completely botched visuals when comparing their respective years of release. They even made the Arthas VS Illidan cinematic somehow worse than the original ,which is a big feat with how simple and somewhat lackluster the original was.

i wasn’t referencing the beta.
people were claiming it’s been an issue for years…

They really should have never squished at 120… I don’t think they considered the overall effects it was going to have - well, that or they just didn’t care.

It’s such a different experience playing a WoW expansion where you noticeably get stronger and your outdoor daily quests get easier and you can actually feel progress. I’ve missed that since they added the level scaling and missed it even more so since the squish and Chromie time.

Yeah i fondly remember how great it felt to get more powerful and smash through old stuff like a wrecking ball. Probably why people like classic so much, you can actually feel progress.

There seems to be an enormous disparity between N ToS and M ToS, even taking into account the double raid size for Mythic. N Goroth falls over in a few seconds while M Goroth takes 30+ seconds to die.

Yes, and it has. But every time, people complain that it’s either too late, or too early… Kinda like you did earlier.

Two things…

First, it isn’t the squash per se that makes you feel like you aren’t progressing anymore, it is a combination of level scaling (level up, mobs level up) and more importantly, ilevel scaling (gain stats / power through gear, mobs scale up).

Second, it is totally by design. The first time they added ilevel scaling, they did so without notice figuring players were too stupid to notice. It was only after a huge outrage at the change that they admitted they had added ilevel scaling, and dialed back the scaling of mobs.

It has been. Not our fault you didn’t/don’t care enough about it to see it.

i honestly haven’t noticed any issue.

the last time there was any difference, was with the last pre-patch… and once we were at level cap again, things smoothed out again.

maybe it’s because i’m not trying to solo content from the previous expansion.

How would you know? This didn’t happen with Legion raids in SL.

You get stronger by gear and talents

Pretty sure the point they’re making is: getting weaker as you level and having to deal with ilvl scaling on top of it all kills any meaningful sense of progression.

How are you getting weaker?

Lol. And yet it doesn’t feel stronger. The gap in progression is significantly higher and skewed to past level cap on retail way more than it is on wrath classic.

Seriously. The formula is much better in wrath imo.

Probably but this is a different topic.

My characters strength always feels like it comes from the power behind an ability and combos.

On Affliction for example, once I can get a UA->Agony into a Corruption, I feel like a god.

I’m struggling on mythic NH bosses that I’ve been soloing with no issues for months.

And I’m sure as soon as I hit 61, it’ll be fine, but it was fine. It’s so annoying to go in and suddenly Botanist is killing me. Man, Botanist hasn’t killed me since heroic progression.

Nah, it’s stil 8x damage all the way up to 70.

And if it’s anything like SL was, you’ll get weaker in the raids as you level to max and then have to make up for it AGAIN with gear.

So you should be able to solo at 70 in 10.3 what you could solo at 120. :rocket:

And this is what sucks about level squish, borrowed power, and rebalancing EVERY expansion.

Progression is forever broken.

I just tried Mythic Goroth on my Unholy DK who has an ilvl of 239 and it took me MINUTES to kill him, that is just beyond stupid.

I can confirm this scaling is completely wrong, and beyond stupid. Doing these at 225-230 is about as hard as it was doing it in fresh 60 quest gear at the expansion launch (think 150 ilvl). There should never be a case where a 2 expansion old boss takes more than 20 seconds to kill, even in quest greens. Bonus damage was implemented for a reason.
