Cataclysm might forever be my favourite expansion. That said, I joined in Wrath so it was my 1st “expansion” experience. I loved Worgens, I loved the raids, I enjoyed doing Loremaster after the revamp/achievements got added. I had a great time, made lots of new friends, and it will forever be in my heart <3
The gameplay as far as PVP, Dungeons and Raiding went was MILES better than previous iterations of WoW. The Cataclysm 1-60 zones were very well done, the updated environments were so much fun to explore and seeing the constant clash between Alliance and Horde as you leveled was awesome and made it feel like you were building up to a real war.
4.1 was a kind of underwhelming because there was no raid, but updates ZG and ZA were great in their own right. Firelands is one of THE GOAT patches. 4.3 added awesome dungeons…Dragon Soul just kind of sucked, I think largely in part because it was made for Raid Finder and everyone for some reason had to have a melt down over Raid Finder.
The greatest fail for Cataclysm, imo, was the cut Abyssal Maw raid and the Naga storyline going nowhere. Overall Cataclysm was a great expansion…players just really don’t know how to appreciate what they had.
Also Tol’barad best PVP zone and BG ever
Garrosh and Sylvanas had some great dialogue.
Oh, that’s an easy one!
Goblins. Goblins and the Goblin Hot Rod. I also really enjoyed the Goblin starting zone.
I guess it wasn’t as bad as shadowlands
I haven’t read all the responses but here’s mine:
Transmog.
All the new zones were good, not all GOLD, but good.
Old zone revamps were a mixed bag- I will never forgive the destruction of old 1000 Needles.
Goblins and Worgen. Worgen got the short end of the stick there though.
Dungeons were fine.
Raids were fine.
Overall it’s hard to deny that Cata was Blizzard’s most ambitious expansion, even not all of that ambition was fulfilled.
I enjoyed Bastion of Twilight as a raid, even though Council was significantly harder than Sinestra for some reason.
With the exception of Dragon Soul, I thought the dungeon and raid designs were pretty engaging.
Sandstone Drake, best thing about Cata.
The spine, oh the LFR spine…
I don’t ever want to relive that again as long as I live.
It’s over.
Oh yeah. I think if it wasn’t for transmog coming in I dunno if i’d still be playing. Maybe the best feature added to WoW.
Had the coolest login screen imo
I read this as “say something nice about capitalism” and had lots of ideas but then I read it correctly and had none. I’ll try anyhow:
Cataclysm wasn’t Shadowlands.
There, did my best.
You wat m8?
They were easy as F, just like the whole of Cata, that people insist in saying was hard somehow.
Back then, people would be impressed by the slightest show of skill, like Ice Blocking a decapitate in Zul’Gurub to save some time.
And those dgs are really fun to this day.
Adding to the list:
- The new zones, other than Vashj’ir, are all really cool and have a feeling of grandeur, just like the Northrend ones.
Vash’jr. I really liked that zone. It was gorgeous.
The Well of Eternity heroic, that was really fun.
I really liked the dailies in Twilight Highlands with the Dwarves protecting their Ale. Cracked me up.
Flying on day 1 was nice.
Cataclysm made Elemental Shaman into beings with powers beyond mortal comprehension.
Then everything after was just a brick wall in every direction for infinity.
The account-wide stuff came with Pandaria.
It was one of the two reasons I rage quit when Pandaria dropped.
(The other was the change from talent trees to talent rows.)
My only “good” memory of Cata is getting Gurthalak, Voice of the Deeps on the last week, a few short days before the MoP pre-patch.
