Say my name, don’t call me champion

They could make a “Google voice” for WoW that interprets your name.

Although, I can see the hilarity of it trying to pronounce nonsensical words or even Bart Simpson like mashups like Ivana Tinkle.

Its more annoying they put the effort into putting the text dialogue to call you by your name yet they still call you Hero/Champion, or worse, not stating towards you at all.

Maybe in a few years when the AI technology to do that is up to snuff

It’s hard for games to pronounce player names. They would have to use a machine to attempt to read it (which hardly ever reads names correctly) and then you’d have the people that have strange names. You wouldn’t be able to use voice actors unless you have them go down the armory and read every single character that has ever been made and find some way to do the same for every character that ever will be made.

yes

i would greatly enjoy if npcs referred to me as fluffybuns

champion fluffybuns

All i can hear now is Alexa trying to pronounce a fantasy name. xD

So… how do we pronounce your name?
Ah-vai-ella? Ey-vee-ella? Av-eye-luh?

Most people can’t pronounce my character’s name, let alone get a program to do it.

No thanks, I prefer having real voice actors.

“Thank ye for saving our world jaefhbfljbnopnv”

Technical limitations would obviously be a problem here. I’d be fine with simply being called “Priest”.

I mean they had Stephen Russell (voice actor for Codsworth in Fallout 4) say over 1000 possible names. So the possibility is there, but highly unlikely it would be done.

You will be referred to as “Aviela” from now on, champion.

Magni: “Thank ye priest for saving Azeroth!”

priest: “I have a name you know”

I dunno if they’d have to be, though. Fallout 4 solved this in an interesting way in the Railroad quest chain by giving a variety of codenames to choose from as which the player would be referred to going forward.

WoW could do the same pretty easily, and without too robust an increase to their budget for voice acting.

I think suitable substitutions could be:

Thank you class, we could not have done it without you!

Example: Thank you mage, we could not have done it without you!

Greetings *faction & class *, I have a deal for you.

Example: Greetings Horde mage, I have a deal with you.

Welcome race, we have some murdering to do.

Example: Welcome Blood Elf, we have some murdering to do

These are but a few examples! I’m sure Blizzard has the resources to implement some additional voice quotes, instead of just champion, or hero.

I’m now just imagining Magni talking to me as I fly over an azerite world quest and instead of the usual “Champion!” he gives, its dubbed over by text to speech Daniel mispronouncing my name.

It would be incredibly difficult to get the voice acting and programming done pronounce every possible name someone could come up with.

I mean how do you even pronounce half the nonsense people use? Like all the stupid alt codes Hèĺļbľáďë for instance. How on earth would that even be pronounced?

Having them actually say our name and not generic things like “champion” or “hero”. Calling us by our class would be the right direction though. “Demon hunter, your here!” Something along those lines.

Not as annoying as being called “human”…by another human
