you can just play within your own community, none stops you to do so.
the problem is that people have too many choices and options in megaservers, so they aren’t forced to stay in small or not attractive communities.
I used to play on era whiteman cluster, aka a small server. Even my EST timezone was supposed to be popular among players, it was hard for me to leave my guild because there weren’t many good guilds around.

I’m here to save chaos bolt. I get some people wanted a higher population server and that was always an option for them. They are killing a unique community that doesn’t exist outside of this singular server. For the life of me I don’t understand why they didn’t offer transfers the other way.
This is a problem blizzard could of prevented from the start and now they’re trying to “solve” it in the worst way possible.

Thats the best comparison to Blizz shutting down a server with 5k people, a healthy economy, and many guilds.
Nevermind the fact that phase 3 would have once again boosted the population and activity. Or they could have opened transfers from cs first. Or do literally anything else but kill our server
