San'layn & Deathbringer Sim Results, Post-buff

Item Level: 622
San’layn stat focus: Haste/Vers
Deathbringer stat focus: Crit/Mastery

Single Target Results (5 mins length, margin of error ~ 0.05%)
San’layn = 392,285 DPS
Deathbringer = 538,538 DPS

AoE Results (5 mins length, margin of error ~ 0.05%)
San’layn = 1.148M DPS
Deathbringer = 1.455M DPS

At this point, just remove the dead San'layn tree from BDK's UI. Complete zero nothingburger option.

Blood DK’s stat weights are Haste to 5% and then Crit Verse for Death bringer, And San is Haste Mastery. Might want to do some adjustments there.

Not sure the class changes are in yet.
Someone else reported they hadn’t noticed anything, on a class that’s supposed to get changes.
Might be later in the day when hotfixes are rolled out.

Agreed with Deathbringer 5% haste, crit/mast combo sims best dps for my gear with a vers phial for small added survivability in 10s. Mileage can definitely vary for others depending on gear setup + group comp.

Switching up the San’layn priority to Haste → Mastery → Crit/Vers:

Single Target Results (5 mins length, margin of error ~ 0.05%)
San’layn = 408,297 DPS
Deathbringer = 538,347 DPS

AoE Results (5 mins length, margin of error ~ 0.05%)
San’layn = 1.198M DPS
Deathbringer = 1.453M DPS

Even with fully-optimized secondaries, it's still a lower DPS output by ~21% on average, plus you lose a bunch of defensive capability by not having Rune Carved Plates / Death's Messenger.

Throw this trash tree in the dumpster.

Which one has better burst and such?
Numbers are fine and all, but a lot can happen over 5 minutes.

I like to see damage spikes. See where it peaks and bottoms out. Thats usually telling in how itll perform out in the world vs stationary patchwerk.

I pick San’layn because of how it buffs survivability, not for the damage.

Rune Carved doesn’t do anything for you on a trash pull. Read the talent, it ramps up when you spend a Rune. It’s not the crazy thing people think it is.

Shh, don’t tell the tank that a hero specialization meant to buff their tankiness exists. The meatheads only want big damage numbers.

It doesn’t buff survivability that is the problem. Nothing in there even comes close to rune carved plates.

You know what gains more surviability? A dead enemy whose now doing 0 DPS to you.

It does though, it buffs Lichborne and Umbilicus and general armor, also Vamp Strike heals you lol.

Vamp strike heals for 1% health each hit. That’s potatoes in keys above a 7. No armor buffs, only buffs icebound the more dead you are which helps no one. Also, 7 vampiric strikes to get 7% haste is garbage, blood beast doesn’t spawn enough to account for any of your dps when it’s supposed to heal you when it explodes. The only good thing in that tree is blood soaked ground, and that’s debatable as well since rune carved plates covers both damage types and if you play well that bonus can go all the way to 10%, plus you deal more damage with exterminate. There is 0 reason to go san’layn.

Won’t lie that a lot of people are pretty happy that san’layn is unviable because the playstyle isn’t that much fun for many people. I think the whole thing needs a rework. Also a bit of a waste to not have brought back swarming mist for it.

“Each Rune spent reduces the magic damage you take by 2% and each Rune generated reduces the physical damage you take by 2% for 5 sec, up to 5 times.”

Read the talent

doesn’t do anything on a trash pull

lol. lmao, even. A person who hasn’t read the talent themselves, hasn’t completed any keys or raided as a BDK this expansion trying to tell everyone how a talent works.

San’layn user confirmed.

I think San’layn was a complete afterthought. The class designers probably have no idea what to do with San’layn. They probably just thought “Hey, we got Blood Death Knights and we’ve got vampires in lore called San’layn, so let’s roll that fantasy into a Hero Talent tree for Death Knight!” and then didn’t put much more thought into it.

Except Deathbringer gives Rune Carved Plates, which is a superior mitigation talent.

If Molecular could read, he’d be very upset by that.

Plus if you pull with Death’s Caress/D&D you are already starting rolling on it

And let’s not lie the Vampiric Strike animation is pathetic

The thing that kills me is death bringer got a talent to make dots better but san’layn didn’t lmao. You’d have though it would have buffed blood plague and heart strike and been around a lot of dot/drain gameplay and using that to sustain and deal damage, but nope.

I’ve been butt hurt about San’Layn for a while now because I was stoked about it when I first learned about it before launch.

I had hoped Swarming Mists would return too but nope.

It’s just nothing but disappointment. Even without Rune Carved Plates, Deathbringer just feels impactful. You get a new button to press, and something, something BIG, happens.

As for Riders, the mobility is a dream come true and I prefer it for dps specs.
