Time to suggest blizzard finish the Darkfallen job!
Separate the eyes from the skintone!
Give more dead skin tone options for other skin colors!
Allow the eyes on death knights!
Give more San’layn options like claws, fangs, ears and scars!

The Darkfallen from the questline arent’ San’layn though. All San’layn are Darkfallen, but not all Darkfallen are San’layn.
Hrm, was looking over the Death Knight talent overhaul post on MMO champ.
One bit has me disappointed.
My san’layn blood death knight has two abilities I’ve really enjoyed having as they have added to the whole vampire theme he has going.
Door of Shadows and Swarming Mist.
Neither of which seem to be part of the Death Knight talents. I figured it’d be unlikely for door of shadows to be there, but Swarming Mist is the class ability.
Although if they were racial abilities for a playable San’layn race, that’d certainly fix the issue, but I doubt that to be the case.
Anyone heard anything regarding the covenant abilities?
Abomination Limb is on the talent tree…but not seeing Swarming Mist
Still a work in progress, have faith.
I think it would be cool if, in the case of covenant class abilities, there was a “choice” talent that let you choose one of the four covenant class abilities.
With that said, keep in mind that any covenant abilities that do make it to the talent tree may not necessarily retain the same name or visual effect we see currently. It’s possible that Blizzard might change them aesthetically to be more thematic to the class rather than to the covenant. Then again, they could just leave them as is.
We’ll know more once an alpha/beta is up.
I don’t think they should get rid of any of them. Some might just become baseline or part of a spec maybe. Swarming mist fits blood very well.
I am mildly annoyed that, as predicted, with the one skin color locked to the eyes (and how good it looks with black/white and how bad with everything else), and the single face with a paint job, there’s a sameness to the Dark Ranger contigent.
It’s a fun tool, but I really hope it’s expanded on.
I didn’t swap any elves to the dead side (yet), but my undead hunter looks spectacular with the armor, so that’s nice.
I think blizzard should consider adding covenant abilities as glyph options for similar spells.
On my dk I have only really played necro and night fae. Since the venthyr was performing well for my mythic pugs, but I did try it in torgast. Most likely blizzard saw people favor necrolord throughout the expansion. It was a bit clunky but the best numbers wise throughout most patches in mythic plus.
I am a fan of death’s due although I felt like swarming mist was like the old unholy carrion swarm (I think thats what it was called like a bunch of moswuitos).
I definetly think it can be reworked as a glyph for necrotic limb if talented for example.
Im currently playing night fae though on my darkspear dk. Death’s due visuals and dark blue color seem to make it harder for me to see stuff on the floor. O.o usually get hit with stuff especially in torgast when that’s down.
I just had a thought. What if it’s locked because they are making an undead race, possibly San’layn, that allows you to swap eyes and skin. They wouldn’t want other races that have access to the Dark Ranger customization having access to them also.
Plus, Dark Rangers are always white skinned and red eyes, unless I’m mistaken, so why would they separate them? It is a Dark Ranger customization not an undead customization like players seem to be thinking. If it was an undead customization than Forsaken would’ve gotten it and only them, which is how I still feel it should’ve gone down.
I was a little annoyed they were locked but after reading your post it just made sense to me for some reason and now I’m O.K. with it. It is even called “Dark Ranger’ Elf Customization” whether DR fans want to admit it or not. If DR fans have fault with it take it up with Blizz they are changing lore ALL the time now. I just wish they had a voice change locked to the skin also because the normal voice is terrible for it.
To each their own.
I appreciate you asking my opinion. As both San’layn and Dark Rangers are Darkfallen we’re both asking for options that overlap quite a bit such as torn ears, gothic hairstyles, gothic jewelry, scars, etc. Yet, there are minor differences in themes and as such I believe that both threads should continue compilng ideas to flesh out both fantasies.
Honestly, I have long accepted that Void Elves will get everything Blood Elves do. It’s only a matter of time. That being said, the fact that, yet again, Blizz has skipped out on lore behind void elf dark rangers is a little disappointing.
I would hope that eventually they would add customizable racials that allow undead elves (and other races) feel like their target fantasy instead of just looking the part. Dark Rangers should not need to breath and are just as undead as the Forsaken which means multiple Forsaken racials would make sense for them with a mixture of other racials that make sense.
I was thinking some along the lines of what Final Fantasy does when choosing your race. What I mean is that when you choose Miqo’te, you get an option of what kind of Miqo’te you are, something like that with all the other racial fantasies that chose racials based upon them could work.
You choose to play a troll, you get the option of choosing from a list of troll “subtypes” such as Farraki, Forest Trolls, Frost Trolls, etc and from there you get varying racials. Voice packs would be fantastic for everyone. Another example would be, if you choose the Wildhammer Dwarves from a list of options, you gain access to the druid class.
I really wish more effort went into things like this, but as I said before I didn’t expect much effort put towards Dark Rangers because the easiest road is the road Blizz will always take and I get the suspicion at times, Blizz doesn’t like Darkfallen.
But a victory is a victory. Oh, I was wrong about the Dark Ranger skins having multiple faces. The texture has only one face, but it’s draped over the facial geometry of the other face options.
Nice work on these. That Priest one has always been such an underrated set to me. It’s one of my favorites.
Sandfury trolls and wildhammer dwarves need these two. Customisable racials and nameplate of race. So true high elves will be available without trp. without having a whole new allied race.
Downloaded this, they look awesome!
That’s why I said “(and other races.)” No one should get special treatment and no one should be left out.
Blizz has inadvertently created an unnecessarily hostile environment among the different groups, specifically those advocating for allied races and customizations by fostering the sentiment that we all have to compete to have any chance of getting what we want. Not to mention, refusing to dedicate an entire small team tailored to customization options and forcing us all to wait without any idea of whether or not they plan on introducing new options at all.
^^^
All of this.
I have thought the same thing. Why don’t they just have one artist, one modeler, one rigger, etc. and let them do one race after another? A small team can do what they seem to refuse to do.
I have some experience with making models, rigging them, animating them and texturing them so even having one person who can do all that would be better than no one. A skilled person can probably do all that by themselves in about a week to a week and a half.
Now if they make a high poly model first and then bake it onto a low poly like in the old days than it could take twice as long because higher poly models obviously take more time because they are very detailed or should be.
But even if they had one person working on new races even one complete model/race a month is still better than no new races for years. Just release them when you have one for each faction, 1 Alliance and 1 Horde, possibly once every 3 months.
Some is > none
It’s a big studio, with lots of institutional inertia. Once something is committed, changing stuff can sometimes be like pulling hen’s teeth from a stone after getting forms filled in triplicate and signed off on by a Vogon.
Ah, Blizz in a nutshell.
Wasn’t expecting a vogon reference today but fair point.
They still need to do more customizations in my opinion.
The amount of people who came to get their long awaited dark rangers was enough to break world servers.
Absolutely should be.
Honestly, that’s my ulterior motive for bopping around customization threads. I have level 50 or above, heritage armor’d or ready for it, fairly beloved toons of every race.
Not only can I, personally, benefit (in potential, anyway) from any customization added, but I also want to keep them up there to potentially increase Blizzard’s awareness. Which could possibly lead to more customizations and also the splinter-under-the-cuticle level annoyance of dwarf eyebrow color tied to skin tone instead of hair color eventually being fixed. Also, you know, a lot of other stuff.
But mostly being able to remake my dwarf with a paler skin tone and black hair without bright red eyebrows. Seriously.
