San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed} (Part 1)

This. I’ve never flat out quit an expansion before like I have for this one…and I hate ‘robot’/space ship stuff. There’s an absence of fantasy, and I’m not a big sci-fi fan at all. If there was a mixture, sure, but this is flat out ‘starwars/trek’ style stuff or something that I truly hate. Not bashing fans of that. I’m sure fans of that sort of thing will enjoy this.

But for me? There’s nothing there. I didn’t see any designs that I liked, nothing that would fit on Azeroth itself, either. The mounts look…terrible (again, this is my personal opinion. If others like it, that’s great! I’m just giving feedback.). I thought Korthia was very ‘meh’ design-wise (and haven’t touched it since I saw and was disappointed in THAT preview) but this is next level just…no…for me.

I am not expecting anything interesting the next expansion. I got my hopes up for something today and just…wow. I expected to be disappointed but this is worse than I could have thought.

It’s probably why I feel so disconnected to it. There’s nothing there that reminds me too much of Azeroth. Maybe some bits and pieces but not too much. It’s mostly alien. The Broker/First Ones aesthetic looks like it belongs in another game. If it felt familiar along with the familiar faces, I probably would have been more into it. At least from a looks perspective.

The systems and no flying for most of the year after the expac release were also reasons to hate it.

At least it isn’t the Maw again.

Lol, you get an instant like from me for saying this because really thank god for no more The Maw.

I won’t be playing until next expansion IF THAT so like

I don’t ever need to deal with the Maw again hopefully

First it would be really sad if you had to after the xpac had ended but Blizzard has rehashed stuff more than once previously so don’t give them any ideas.

Second while I’m glad they said 9.2 would be the final major storyline patch of Shadowlands instead of 9.3 like Ion said other day, a part of me just wishes we would move onto the next xpac because in my book this xpac has already overstayed it’s welcome.

I’m assuming there is no 9.3? Or would 9.3 be the transition back to Azeroth that many people actually want?

I have no clue, I am hoping if it does exist it’s just like the wrap up patch to next xpac like boom instantly ready to go into next xpac then boom next xpac releases and we all forget that Shadowlands has been one of the worst WoW xpacs ever.

Edit - it seems they are offering level 60 boosts now because I got a free one from boosting my Gnome Warlock to 50 other night.

WoD I got close to considering quitting, since I hated the whole AU thing. Legion got me to outright quit it and skip it for the most part (for several reasons that will be too long to go into in this post). BfA, with all its faults, renewed my interest in the game, but Shadowlands made me really reluctant to go into it, and as I said if I weren’t leading the charge for playable Horde Saurok and Ogres, I’d have quit the game to skip it like I did with Legion.

Shadowlands hasn’t actually ended yet, but it’s likely to take the place of WoD as my least favorite expansion. The difference between it and WoD is that WoD, as much as I hated its premise, at least felt like Warcraft with some connection to Azeroth in general. Shadowlands taking place in the afterlife of all things is worse, since definitively stating what the afterlife is and exploring it in general is a really big detriment to world building, among several other problems in my opinion. Not to mention barely any connection to Warcraft, and as I said, anything we do here won’t really matter, since it’s the afterlife and I don’t see it ever being revisited again in the future (and it shouldn’t be for that matter), and it really doesn’t add much as a whole to any future storylines or world building experiences, again in my opinion. I could go on and on, but it’s yet another thesis paper I’m sure I could write up if I did.

I suppose I’ll be clear in stating that not getting races I want playable doesn’t have anything to do with my disdain of this expansion. Would it have helped? Sure, especially if it was during BfA. I still would hate Shadowlands as a whole. though I’d be happier in general. Just wanted to make it clear that I’m not being a stick-in-the-mud for what I feel would have been a shallow reason.

With the words “final act of Shadowlands,” I’m under the assumption there wouldn’t be a 9.3, and that anything else would be a pre-patch for whatever the next expansion is. Wowhead even has an article on 9.2 being thelast major story patch for it:

And thinking on it, I’m wondering if the whole undead threat plot point will get any reference at all. Especially considering the world (of Warcraft!) would’ve been entirely ravaged by massive groups of undead, let alone that there are necromancer cults still around who would have a field day with all the undead around.

While it could lead into a good reason for the rumors of an old world revamp to take place, I can’t help but feel like:

-Nothing will have happened while we were gone.

-Casualties would be extremely small if not non-existent, barely mentioned in flavor text somewhere, either in game or a novel.

-The world (of Warcraft!) will be pristine with little to no damage, and of course still time locked.

-The undead threat as a whole will not get referenced in any way, shape, or form after we’re all done, and we’ll just go back to Stormwind/Orgrimmar and party until the next threat to the world 9of Warcraft!) appears.

I’d like to be wrong of course, but it’s hard for me to remain hopeful that something would be done with that plot point. I’ll be surprised if it gets mentioned at all, but Shadowlands is still going, so we’ll see what actually happens.

Anyway, as I said, I hate being negative and just crapping over the game, but as I said, I have to be honest if I’m just not enjoying it. Again, my grumbling comes moreso from frustration than just anger or anything of that level. I just want to enjoy the game is all.

I’m sure I can type more, but I need a bit of a rest for the moment. :wine_glass::bat:

Looks nice to me but I literally never expected us to go back to Azeroth and I also didn’t expect any super deathy vibes. We’re in the afterlife, and I think it’s kinda cool they we are seeing the engine of the first ones. Idk I’m sure I’m a minority.

We’re very opposite there, Legion was my favorite expansion. BfA I absolutely hated and almost pushed me to quit outright. The story was utter trash to me in every way, the only thing that kept me playing was the zones & Allied Race stuff. Shadowlands was the major nail in the coffin.

Yeah I view WoD more fondly than BfA and Shadowlands. It goes WoD > BfA >>>>>>SLs.

Oh I highly doubt it. Nothing in 9.2 looks…even remotely relevant to anything. Especially not undead.

Feel like this is what they’ll go with ><

In the same boat. This might be the last bit of toleration I have, though. Nothing…at all… looks good. There’s been times where I’ve hated the look and premise of the patch, like Korthia, but there was like one single mount that was like ‘huh, neat’. With this patch…even the mount designs look so utterly horrible to me.

That’s fair and all. I personally really…really hate it. At least you’ll be able to get enjoyment where I definitely can’t.

That said, not sure how long I’ll bother here anymore, I just…am so tired. Maybe if the community council thing goes through and my voice can actually be heard, but. Yeah. No. I’m so tired of putting forward creative energy for nothing. In every single thread I participate in.

I hated the grinds for Allied Races but thinking back on it, it did keep me playing as well and that’s something this xpac lacks which is why I play less and less and only log onto most characters to reset mission tables and just do the basic daily quests that take a few minutes then move onto the next character. Lol. :yum: :yum: :yum:

Afterlife in any other game has never really looked so alien. And I mean, you’d think with all the people that passed on Azeroth residing there, that they’d start to make it look a bit like home.

BfA got me playing again primarily because of the allied race system. I liked it, though it isn’t perfect, and I thought there would be some neat possibilities going forward, both during BfA at the time and in the future (which remains to be seen at the time of this post).

Aside from that and the possibly the introduction of some new races to Warcraft as a whole (Vulpera, Kelfin, Sethrak, and others), BfA had a lot of issues that did hinder my enjoyment (some storylines, the back and forth between the Horde and Alliance, not liking how some NPC’s were designed to act, and other reasons). Not to mentioned a whole lot of missed opportunities (No Horde Ogre presence anywhere? San’layn just treated as mustache-twirling villains with an Alliance-side only storyline that abruptly ends and isn’t referenced at all? Seriously?).

As I said before, now is as great of a time to take a break from the game, since it’ll likely be awhile before we get any news on the next expansion. I’m still going to play some, probably to level alts on Retail casually (WoW anniversary exp buff will help with that if it becomes a thing), do some old world content, and take fun screenshots. Likely, I’ll also continue to dabble in Classic, since it at least feels more connected to Azeroth than Shadowlands ever did. I may end up just skipping 9.2 unless I see some reason to check something out, which is a feeling I’m not fond of having to be honest.

Thinking about the next expansion, the most talked about rumor I’ve seen would be Dragon Isles, though I don’t really know what to expect with it. A revamped old world rumor comes shortly after that, which I would be curious to see what would be done with that, and whether Dragon Isles would fit in it. But, regardless of what it is, I feel like I should temper expectations, since I have no idea where you even go from the afterlife of all things.

We’ll see what direction the game goes when the next expansion gets announced, I guess. I’m dubious, but there still remains some hope if I’m being honest. :wine_glass::bat:

Shouldn’t really think like that. Still there is new expansion to hope that more allied races can be added. They always tend to skip each expansion when they have added class/race.

TBC (Draenei/Blood Elf)
WOTLK (Death Knight)
Cata (Worgen/Goblin)
MOP (Pandaren/Monk)
WOD (Skip)
Legion (Demon Hunter)
BFA (Allied Race)
SL (Skip)
New Expansion (Class and more Races?)

I think I like it tho. I wouldn’t expect the afterlife to look like normal life. That being said I’ll need a bit more to get me hyped, like some customizations etc.

I’m glad you do like it.

I wish we had some customizations. The expac has felt so flat with such limited content.

After seeing so many expansions like WOD, BFA and etc, you start to expect less.

And I expected no less in this expansion yet again, and here we are.

Yeah I didn’t expect a lot of content, but it still feels flat to me. I’m gonna give it a try. But I’m not hyped.

It’s not really surprising that people in our camp feel how they feel customization wise because most of what we got new was almost instantly shared with Void Elves and that took away all of the joy that the newness would have added, hopefully we will eventually get new customizations for just Blood Elves and Horde in the form of San’layn and Dark Rangers.

Speaking for myself, it can be really tiring to continuously give creative ideas on a regular basis. Moreso during the entirety of an expansion’s lifetime, potentially being multiple expansions in a row. Not to mention when you get an expansion like Shadowlands that just feels like it saps the wind out of your sails, it’s hard to not be frustrated at the direction of the plot and where the game is going. As a result, it can be really difficult to be motivated and keep going.

We also don’t really know if/how our feedback is being received, and even then, there is no guarantee that Blizzard, who most people view as a company infamous for not listening to its players in general, likes them. If the idea that they plan expansions two ahead of the current one is true, it could be until after the next expansion before we potentially see any of our feedback implemented, again assuming Blizzard is open to them and likes them.

That said, I don’t see why we wouldn’t see new playable races in the future, given that we got that neat new character creation screen with a lot of room for more races. In that regard, Blizzard has listen to fan feedback before, since I remember seeing Nightborne/Nightfallen being heavily requested during Legion and Vulpera were really popular during BfA. So I do think it is worth a shot to continue going, albeit it at our own pace as an attempt to avoid burnout.

It’s hard to know what the future holds and it does get hard to maintain creativity and hope. I personally struggle with it at times, myself. I think in the worst case, I’d just take a hiatus if we had another expansion I really did not like at all, like I did with Legion. I’d prefer to keep playing, of course.

However, a lot of what I do support are things that would make me very happy long term and keep me playing, even with expansions like Shadowlands. They’re things I feel strongly about, and I feel that it’s worth a shot to at least try. Still, it can be challenging some days, with a general feeling of blarg and such.

As I said, I speak only for myself, and I hope I explained it as well as I could. It is a bit hard to translate how I feel to text on a computer screen, but hopefully that can help give an example of how it can really feel draining at times to keep up what is done to maintain a megathread of some kind on here.

I don’t plan to give up any time soon, of course. I still maintain some hope, much as my dreams can be a bit of a pipe dream. Still, you never know what’ll happen in the future. :wine_glass::bat:
