WoD I got close to considering quitting, since I hated the whole AU thing. Legion got me to outright quit it and skip it for the most part (for several reasons that will be too long to go into in this post). BfA, with all its faults, renewed my interest in the game, but Shadowlands made me really reluctant to go into it, and as I said if I weren’t leading the charge for playable Horde Saurok and Ogres, I’d have quit the game to skip it like I did with Legion.
Shadowlands hasn’t actually ended yet, but it’s likely to take the place of WoD as my least favorite expansion. The difference between it and WoD is that WoD, as much as I hated its premise, at least felt like Warcraft with some connection to Azeroth in general. Shadowlands taking place in the afterlife of all things is worse, since definitively stating what the afterlife is and exploring it in general is a really big detriment to world building, among several other problems in my opinion. Not to mention barely any connection to Warcraft, and as I said, anything we do here won’t really matter, since it’s the afterlife and I don’t see it ever being revisited again in the future (and it shouldn’t be for that matter), and it really doesn’t add much as a whole to any future storylines or world building experiences, again in my opinion. I could go on and on, but it’s yet another thesis paper I’m sure I could write up if I did.
I suppose I’ll be clear in stating that not getting races I want playable doesn’t have anything to do with my disdain of this expansion. Would it have helped? Sure, especially if it was during BfA. I still would hate Shadowlands as a whole. though I’d be happier in general. Just wanted to make it clear that I’m not being a stick-in-the-mud for what I feel would have been a shallow reason.
With the words “final act of Shadowlands,” I’m under the assumption there wouldn’t be a 9.3, and that anything else would be a pre-patch for whatever the next expansion is. Wowhead even has an article on 9.2 being thelast major story patch for it:
And thinking on it, I’m wondering if the whole undead threat plot point will get any reference at all. Especially considering the world (of Warcraft!) would’ve been entirely ravaged by massive groups of undead, let alone that there are necromancer cults still around who would have a field day with all the undead around.
While it could lead into a good reason for the rumors of an old world revamp to take place, I can’t help but feel like:
-Nothing will have happened while we were gone.
-Casualties would be extremely small if not non-existent, barely mentioned in flavor text somewhere, either in game or a novel.
-The world (of Warcraft!) will be pristine with little to no damage, and of course still time locked.
-The undead threat as a whole will not get referenced in any way, shape, or form after we’re all done, and we’ll just go back to Stormwind/Orgrimmar and party until the next threat to the world 9of Warcraft!) appears.
I’d like to be wrong of course, but it’s hard for me to remain hopeful that something would be done with that plot point. I’ll be surprised if it gets mentioned at all, but Shadowlands is still going, so we’ll see what actually happens.
Anyway, as I said, I hate being negative and just crapping over the game, but as I said, I have to be honest if I’m just not enjoying it. Again, my grumbling comes moreso from frustration than just anger or anything of that level. I just want to enjoy the game is all.
I’m sure I can type more, but I need a bit of a rest for the moment.
