That’s fair! I think Mok’nathal are pretty wanted right now as well, I’ve seen some really neat concepts for them. And yeah, I don’t think we’d get San’layn before something like that anyway, to be honest, since people would appreciate seeing a different race like that first.
But yeah, also it’s interesting that they’re kinda a part of us, we just… don’t really know it as Hordeside. And yeah, that concept is a lot of fun, plus it brings that whole thematic thing people enjoy thinking about.
So just started the Horde side Darkshore quests and i noticed something with the new toy, the eyes of the Dark Rangers are a deathly blood red colour might help support ya’ll here.
Decided to make a wiki post for all the ideas in an easy to read format.
General Concepts-
-Blood Elf base model.
-Skinnier Build.
-Gray, Dark Gray, Light Grey, Wight, and Rotted Skin Colors
-White, Gray, Black, and Blood Stained Hair Colors.
-Batlike Ears.
-Long Claw Like fingers.
-Fangs/Sharp Teeth.
-Red Eyes and possibly Black and Yellow Eyes.
Possible Additions/Alterations/Options-
-Dark Marks under their Eyes. (Like Sylvanas)
-Bandages/wraps to hide their decay because they are more vane then other undead.
-Gothic themed Clothing/Gear/Buildings.
-More regal stances/animations.
Possible Classes-
-Warrior, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Warlock, Rogue. Highly Likely.
-Monk. Likely. (Monk is becoming a catch all for unarmed fighter)
-Druid. Unlikely. (But possible given what we learned about Drust magic and any new lore additions.
-Paladin, Shaman. Highly Unlikely.
-Death Knight, Demon Hunter. Straight up no because no Hero Classes for Allied Races. Though Death Knight might be possible in the future.
Racial Ideas-
-A % leech base buff
-An ability that increases leech, possibly bite
-Evasion either by turning into a cloud of bats, or blood mist
-Racial mount: cloud of bats, a bat, or blood mist
That’s not confirmed even though people like to constantly repeat it nonstop. They didn’t need to bring an enemy back all three way from wrath and could have used a Mogu or something relevant.
Also I consider that argument weak. Why would they give the Alliance a “victory” that’s not really one at all? Why bother then, to not make the horde “lose something”? Also I debunked the Dreven thing in the first post already.
Wow that stuff is so rad, that feature is mighty helpful. I’d apply it to the original post, but is there a way to report people if they add something rude? Also, does it notify you when I edit your post?
Wouldn’t the process of becoming a Death Knight pretty much negate any or all “vampire” qualities and abilities? Or possibly the other way, DK powers get subsumed by the vampire powers.
They both work for the Lich King. I cannot imagine he didn’t try to blend them into a superior warrior. There might even be some decent Dungeon Boss material out of a failed experiment or two.
I guess I am saying, if you think they can be DKs, then they should be DKs right out of the gate, not added in later. Because it’s just too good an idea for the Lich King to have passed it by.
I’m going to wait until a few more people add things before I toy and poke around it some more.
I would not do the OP though given all the trolls.
BTW I just had the perfect idea for a mount, Gargoyles.
Those things have gone underused for too long. And they tie in well with the idea of gothic themes.
I see no reason you can’t be a San’layn who uses rune magic. They are all Blood Magic creatures who can use other forms of magic and abilities.
Right now the rule is no Allied Races get Hero Classes because they all start at level 20 and Hero Classes start at higher levels. Giving them an unfair advantage for heritage armor.
They may change their minds on that (They said they might) or Allied Races in the expansion(s) after BFA they might start at 50 or so making them possible for Death Knights.
Rune magic is only one quality of a Death Knight. The physical transformation from living to corpse to DK, the process of it, and the physical transformation from living to San’layn, the process of it, would be something which might not be compatible.
I can argue a case for Worgen DKs, because Worgen are living creatures with a curse. They would still die and be subject to the magic which creates Death Knights. There is really no debate on if the two different processes have an impact on one another.
But Death Knight and San’layn are both forms of undeath. San’layn vampirism is a large enough transformation to replace the racials, and as some have said further up in the thread, some of their powers mirror DK abilities in theme. I could find an argument, and some already have, to say that Blood DKs are already San’layn.
So my point remains. It is possible that San’layn would be unable to become Death Knights simply because they have already been transformed into one form of unliving status.
The Lich King has very likely tried to combine the San’layn and the Death Knights, because the resulting power might have been too good to pass up. Some sort of abomination experiment would make for an excellent early boss in a dungeon.
What about Forsaken DK though? I personally would be pretty sad if we didn’t eventually get the San’layn as Death Knights (for obvious reasons). It would make sense not at first if they come along earlier than anticipated (which I’m not thinking will happen for a couple years) but I’d sincerely hope for that class at some point.
Personal Opinion
Every DK should have the Forsaken abilities template and the races be purely cosmetic. It irks me to no end that Death Knights have to breathe underwater. It just seems so basic to me that, yanno DEATH means you no longer have to worry about that breath thing any more. End Opinionating
With that said, the Forsaken have no real “magic” abilities. Y’all are talking about giving racials like ‘turn into swarm of bats’ which is rather a bit more than being a corpse which no longer needs to breathe.
San’layn, as y’all are proposing, are highly magical. It rather goes along with the vampire shtick, but at the same time it means they are a higher order of undead than the Foresaken, who are little more than self aware zombies. Heck, the Foresaken still have to eat solid food.
Which in itself is another point to consider. Forsaken -like the other mortal races- need to eat solid food. San’layn drink blood. Death Knights exist on what…? Hate, fear and pain according to one of the novels? So the process of becoming a Death Knight removes the need for blood? Are they still San’layn then?
Or reverse the process here in your mind and tell me if it feels right. Can a Blood Elf Death Knight be bitten by a San’layn and become one of them?
Yes, game mechanics say everyone eats food because that’s how we heal. And the Forsaken get to heal from the bodies of foes, which they keep after the DK process. But much of what your thread here discusses is the lore and theme and role play of San’layn outside of the game mechanics.
You can’t have it both ways. Either the San’lyan are powerful undead in their own right, or they are Forsaken with a blood fetish.
Ah yeah, true that. I don’t understand why ARs can’t be DKS right now, what with worgen/goblins also joining as DKs even when the final scenario would make no sense. Those that have been away and not on Azeroth ever, sure, or new races we’ve never seen. But if ever we get older races, yeah.
honestly, zandalari and kul’tirans were both present in northrend during the scourge campaign, they should be DK too.
I think the worgen were somewhat explained as their DKs are supposedly the children of Arugal, and goblins have mercenary groups everywhere so they were logical enough.
Any AR that was present during the scourge campaign should be allowed to have DKs (sadly that isn’t the case though)
San’layn and Vrykul would be very logical DK ARs to add, even if leveling one as a DK won’t unlock the heritage set.
