On the subject of elves, I will again state that my interest in San’layn is not because they’re elves, but moreso their backstory and storyline potential as a playable race.
I get that there can be an annoyance of there being several elf races, which given the popularity of elves in any form of media, I can at least understand the disdain of seeing a bunch of elf races.
At the same time, if you look past San’layn being elves, there is just a lot of potential for them as a playable Horde race. Sure, them being elves will play into their backstory, but I feel that it complements them more than it hinders them. The idea of them being former Blood Elves who died just doing their duty, putting their faith in Kael’thas, only to get slain, become undead minions, break free and find that everyone suddenly views them as monsters, and them trying to survive and hopefully reconnect with Silvermoon just has a lot of potential as a lead-in for them becoming a playable Horde race.
They also would have a positive effect on the Horde, who would open up to their plight and allow them in. They also play on a potential Kael’thas redemption, would help Lor’themar grow as a character, and could be part of a Ghostlands revamp. Not to mention being part of storylines and even novels, being spies in bat form or the general stories of them reconnecting with family or friends in Silvermoon.
I could go on, but my point is that some races may seem kinda meh to others at first glance, but if you look into their story, you could be pleasantly surprised. And for San’layn, There is a lot of potential for players to really get attached to their lore, which in term causes a connection to their San’layn characters while getting really into the story.
It’s possible what I typed could’ve been said better, but if given the chance with some creativity, playable Horde San’layn have a lot to offer that would be pretty amazing to see and be a part of. They can be much more than just “another elf race.”
