San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed} (Part 1)

Eh I can’t agree with this TBH. Again, Blood Princes are the “ruling” cast, you can’t have a race made out of a ruling caste lol.

VE’s aren’t “the elite of the elite” they are scholars that got Voided.

LFD are an army of light zealots. They have soliders of all ranks.

Demon Hunters are a class.

While the story pushes the PC to be a champion, racially you are not the “leader” of your faction. Being a Blood Prince would make you, well, a Prince, it really doesn’t mash with any of the racial backgrounds.

It doesn’t really work like a generic origin for a race.

you still wouldn’t be the leader of the race, there’s a reason the Blood Queen (and probably Blood King) title exist and are a higher rank than the Prince/Princess. and just like in real life, just because you are a Prince/Princess does not mean that you will definitely be the person to rule everyone, unless you were the Crown Prince/Princess.

so again, the scenario where a new Prince/Princess is born/created when there’s already at least 2 Blood Princes and possibly a Queen/King currently active would not make the new one automatically a person who is ruling over the rest of their race. the playable one could simply be a Prince/Princess who, like Dreven, is given the job of being the Ambassador of the San’layn to strengthen ties with the Horde.

the playable goblin character is a former Trade Prince/Princess, so it isn’t impossible for the playable characters to be someone of significant status in that races society.

Well written, thanks for posting that here for us as well! These ideas are excellent and I hope Blizzard looks into them as well. I think I’ll bookmark this so that when I edit the first post (when I hit trust 3), I’ll quote and add this to it.

Yeah the taming of undead beasts would be granted to Forsaken and San’layn (no idea who on Alliance side, perhaps someone can figure something out) and likely a tome for others.

But your Goblin is a disgraced trade prince that becomes a scrub.

I’m sorry but I just don’t agree with the idea that the PC should be so high in their racial hierarchy. It limits the racial fantasy and sense of progression, which is certainly framed as you being mostly a regular folk that climbs the Horde/Alliance power structure.

I just don’t think starting as a Blood Prince offers more than what it limits. Starting at the upper eschelon of your race -and not coming down from it like a Goblin does- just seems like a bad idea to me.

I still remember people being critical of the Goblin and less so, Worgen starting zones because they limited your background too much.

Making the PC San’layn a prince just gives them too much unearned power. Why would a Prince be killing spiders on Silverpine? It really doesn’t make sense.

IDK maybe you could be named a Prince when you get your heritage armor. But starting as a Prince at lvl 20 just seems incongruous and limiting.

I am a true Horde player and i hope this to NEVER happens. You can play a Belf Blood DK anytime, stop asking for more elfs.

That’s my feedback, Blizzard, we don’t want this, this guys are a vocal minority.

So:

  1. You can’t speak for everyone, you have no idea whether or not we are the vocal minority, and you can’t claim to be a “mah true horde player” because even as Garrosh said, times have changed.
  2. Read the first post, I don’t need to go into detail as to how San’layn are different from Blood Elf Death Knights.
  3. You’re playing an orc from an entirely different universe, that’s very far from any “True horde”.
  4. If you dislike San’layn and don’t want them, that’s fine, but there’s way to express that in a much less rude way than you did.
  5. Blizzard said to be respectful and polite, which is what you’re not being, and I’m pretty sure they’ve watched how we’ve handled things this entire thread. I’m polite to people who dislike/don’t support San’layn when they are respectful, this is FAR from that, and I do not appreciate you coming in here and being this way.
  6. Pretty sure it would be entirely far from fair if I went onto ogre or half-ogre threads and said “I hope this NEVER happens because I don’t want it, too many orc variations.”

So I’ll answer you in two parts by your separate paragraphs (mobile life):

  1. And that is possible, I just meant as the Forsaken and Sanlayn being able to have the ability to tame them as part of their flavor.

  2. You really dont have to. The DKs of the Sanlayn can be referred to as the ones remaining from the times of Arthas and be dropped in the world at level 60 (possibly with heritage armor acquiring disabled for that toon). Sanlayn are a race that is known to have DKs and removing that option is a rather nonsensical disservice to the race.

Edit: To further the notion on DKs, its why I have them labeled as elites of the guard. Because of their longevity to the Sanlayn causes. And since they are a race that was a major player in the Scourge…they can easily have access to the DK

I sincerely wish people could be polite when coming in here and saying they don’t support the idea. For example, if I didn’t support this, I would say:

“Hey, I don’t support this idea, I’d rather see [Random Allied Race] added into the game.”

And even add: “To me, it doesn’t make sense because [reason], I just wanted to share my thoughts on the matter.”

Something like that. Rather than the “NO MORE ELVES” or “TRUE HORDE” crowd. It’s just bad taste and rude, leaves a bad impression on those who come in here and do that because they’re not acting mature, and gets people generally annoyed. I said in my first post a disclaimer right on top, but when people barge in here as if this thread is a danger to them, I already know they didn’t bother to read the work I put into this.

When that happens, I question, “Why bother even commenting here, then? Clearly you have no idea what you’re talking about, nor did you give the benefit of actually reading what’s been put into this.”

I pay little mind to people who do that, and hope Blizzard does the same if they’re that rude.

Read through the whole first page. Long, but good read, you guys have some interesting ideas for this race.

Just wanted to say good luck to all of yall who are wanting the San’layn. Im still rooting for Vulpera myself though

Thanks very much! And trust me… I really want Vulpera too and love that community. I feel like out of all the Allied Races, they have the biggest chance, so no worries there. Anyway, thanks for giving us luck and giving our ideas a read

I was sad to see no San’Layn at BlizzCon

Actually, sad to see no reveals of any allied races, only good thing was the Worgen models we got one photo of lol. Going to be a LONG while still for the Worgen players sadly.

What, JUST the worgen models?
Pretty sure there’s another important model update in there too. :stuck_out_tongue:

are they finally giving us the promised Nightborne customization update they talked about when they released us?

I’m excited about the worgen update too! Especially since they said that the female worgen are getting glowy, spooky eyes just like the males. I do wish that they’d listen people’s suggestions about the placement of the ears and size of the eyes though. Taking those things into account would make worgen almost perfect.

Yeah, I was pretty sad about seeing no allied race announcements too,(Though they said there are more to come still during BFA, so that’s good). For some reason, I feel that San’layn has a good chance and that the quil shows that they are aware of our love of this race.

Edit:

I just noticed (yeah, I know) that blood trolls have similar teleport to what Dreven had. Since blood magic is a strong influence in the Horde BFA storyline, San’layn make even more sense because they are masters of blood magic. Blood Elves started using blood magic in Mists of Pandaria and little has been done with it since, but they were shown using it again in incursions. San’layn were reborn/reanimated/cursed with blood magic and would be the next logical step for some blood elves to take. The San’layn could help the Horde fight fire with fire (or blood with blood) and counter enemy blood magic as they are intimately familiar with it. Sort of like how Void elves are Alliance’s weapon against the void (as dumb as it sounds).

Yeah same here. I very much expected a few Allied Race announcements, and the WoW panel majorly disappointed me this year. Lately there’s been little word of anything new as well. The patch 8.2 content wasn’t impressive to me personally, it looked very boring (the water area) and Mechagon looked nice, but it’s a huge set-up just for a dungeon that likely will be miserable rather than open world content. The worgen & goblin updates seem to be the biggest thing. I’m happy for those that are looking forward to them, but man the wait is so long and I really wanted to see some AR news or storyline stuff that wasn’t just more of “mah honor” saurfang or rampage Sylvanas. Ah well.

I agree with you there entirely. That quill did give me hope, and I really hope to see the questline tied to it. When is that coming? I forgot if it was patch 8.1.5 or 8.2.0. I hope 8.1.5 so we get a bit more data on the matter. And yeah the thing is, there’s a lot of blood themes this expansion… just like there were tons of void & light themes in Legion, which then we saw lead into LFD and void elves. I think you’re right there and I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a race that utilizes blood very well (San’layn) with so many of these themes now being emphasized.

This x100. I’m getting tired of looking like an angry raisin all the time.

I was opposed to san’layn being playable at first, but now I admit I’d play one if Blizzard is willing to bend the rules and let them be death knights, otherwise I’d just play one as a mage or priest, the latter of which might also require some gameplay/lore segregation in the vain of undead and velf priests.

It wouldn’t be that hard to do actually. San’layn were part of the Scourge when the Scarlet Crusade got flattened by Arthas’ Death Knights so just have them use that starting zone.

Seeing as how they’ll be starting at 55 that means they’ll be unable to obtain the heritage armor via leveling (to keep it fair for the other allied races). Though I suspect that would be a compromise many would be willing to make in order to play as an Allied Race DK.

That would be the easy way. The hard way would be for them to restructure the way DK abilities/talents are earned through leveling but that would be a big headache for the devs imo.
