I said San’layn, not BEs.
Love this for my casters since it hides their useless staff, but hate this for my melee.
I’d love to use the bone wings on my DK if it didn’t hide her sword. Warlock, on the other hand, it’s perfect for.
Yeah that’s good, I still might use it for my male DK and just have his axe drawn all the time. For this character, though, the Ripper is too important to her look to have it vanish.
Now I’m wondering, sincerely, whether or not the covenant cloaks unlock for all characters in that covenant, regardless of renown. So like… if I had my rogue go Revendreth, would she get the blades right away if I earn it via Falls? Stuff like that is important to know.
For this thing: https://www.wowhead.com/item=183708/glittering-gold-sinstone-chain
Someone said in WoWhead that you need to be revered with that faction. Meaning, even if you buy it on one character, it won’t unlock for others unless they too have the rep. I have not confirmed this, but it’s pretty upvoted on WoWhead. So, I guess that particular tombstone won’t be what I apply to one of my alts.
In other news, this person did an excellent job of putting together Kael’thas lore. I watched it, all the way through. WARNING: It does contain spoilers.

What I’ve taken:
- It does seem Kael regrets some of what he does, and has STRONG feelings for Silvermoon yet still.
- He still has quite a few demands and seems forward. Actually reminds me of Blood Prince Dreven’s attitude.
- At the end of the video, it does seem like he has a lot of urgency. As if he truly does care. He hangs onto his past. Like Bagzak said, and I agree, I feel he should meet redemption back on Azeroth. Illidan got it, so he can too–and what better way than to aid the San’layn, who have no home (Source: BfA, see screenshot in first post). They were his people and loyal followers. I feel there are so many connections there that would be brilliant lorewise, and give us this race as playable. They just need to be made.
Also, “Merely a setback” is still a joke. Blood Prince Valanar also said it. “Naxxanar was merely a setback”. Still think a “Blood King Kael” would be interesting. He could lead his fallen people (San’layn) and run a more brutal sect of the Blood Elves, AKA the vampyr.
When thinking about the idea of Kael’thas and redemption specifically, I find it hard to just have Kael’thas learn the true meaning of Winter’s Veil in Revendreth, the Vethry go “Yep! You’re redeemed! Become a Venthyr or off with ya!” and that being the end of it. This especially given how the people he wronged still have ire towards him.
It’s not so much that he has to reverse everything he caused back on Azeroth, as I’m sure many people that wind up in the Shadowlands have caused a lot of havoc but don’t get to go back to correct the atrocities they have committed, but that if he were to be redeemed, he needs to prove it by making it up to his people. They’re the ones that I feel should determine whether he is redeemed or not. If he’s that gung-ho about helping Silvermoon, then he needs to prove it.
Another thought I had with the idea of him becoming a San’layn is not just the curse to make him humble, but to fight against the urge to seek more power at the expense of others. We’ve seen a lot of the San’layn royalty fall into that trap, and to see Kael’thas have to fight that urge as a way of proving his dedication to redemption and his people would add more to his plight. This would also apply to whoever the leader of the playable San’layn faction would be if Kael’thas isn’t meant to be, as there are likely aspects of San’layn that need to get under control (like the need to feed).
Speaking of, while there are a number of neat things and story potential you can do with Kael’thas and San’layn, I’m keeping an open mind as I look at the story in Shadowlands. Anything could happen, and even if it isn’t Kael’thas eventually becoming and leading the San’layn, there are still plenty of other NPC’s, whether it’s San’layn royalty we’ve dealt with before or someone completely new, that would also work just fine.
The important thing is getting playable Horde San’layn.
Make this happen Blizzard… Please, please, make this happen and give Horde the San’layn allied race.
Na, give belves a unique quest to grant them sanlyan skins. Similar to Nelf black eyes.
This way both Velves and Belves have a “corrupted” appearance.
#Justiceforstolenbelfskins.
Yeah either would work for me! And a questline would also give us some nice lore.
Toggle: Claws and fangs
Eyes: Amber, jet black, red.
And pale/chalky skin.
Would also let people cosplay as Sylvy.
would rather san’layn be a seperate AR. Let’s not give anyone undead paladins of any kind.
If Kael does come back and doesn’t reside in Silvermoon or it’s territories I imagine Scholomance could work out.
Could give a home to all of the elves who were loyal to him and maybe even make a magical institute for the Horde.
I would have gone with Silverfang Keep but that seems to be Alliance territory.
well they wouldn’t be undead.
Just think of it as like a minor cosmetic affliction for drinking too much reven anima.
when ever we fought sayn’layn they are catagorized as undead, as they are all raised from the dead anyways…
And why would the BE drink anima? Even if keal asked them to, they would not obey as lorthemar would make sure he won’t have any power to do so.
I’m just saying w/e quest-line for belves could entail in Revendreth would just give them like a cosmetic appearance.
Think of green orcs after the death of mannoroth.
As I did for my Ogre and Saurok megathreads, I thought I’d take some screenshots of some of the Winter’s Veil festivities for this megathread. I’ll have to do it as Prince Valanar, since he’s the only San’layn I can pickpocket to get the model via glyph of disguise.
Prince Valanar in front of a Winter’s Veil decoration:
Prince Valanar checking out Smokywood Pastures. Maybe some blood sausages would be of interest to the San’layn!
Prince Valanar in front of a giant Winter’s Veil decoration:
I also thought I’d take one in front of Grommash Hold, since the NPC’s that take you to Shadowlands are there. Of course, even removing the UI still results in the speech bubble appear. Ah well, I’ll just pretend that they want to fill in the San’layn on what is going on so they can help out!
Santa Valanar is off to spread Winter’s Veil cheer to good little members of the Horde!
And of course, the tree:
Happy Winter’s Veil to the San’layn megathread! May you all have a fun, happy, and safe December! And may we hope to one day see the San’layn officially join the Horde as a playable race!

I used to see this all the time in screenshot of the day. But when I wanted to reproduce it, I found I couldn’t. Hiding my UI hides text boxes for me for some reason, or at least it did last time I tried.
Yes…yes he COULD do that thing that is all I’ve ever wanted. He should do that.
Then they wouldn’t be San’layn/Darkfallen…
I know I’m just talking about the cosmetic aspect of it.
Yes they’re just belves who look like sanlyan.
The point is to have a corrupted belf skin to even out the normal velves. Cuz let’s be honest, there’s not going to be a new elf race…
Having a racial quest line in revendreth for belf players could easily achieve this. It’d be just like black eyes for nelves.
Just providing a cosmetic change without causing any magical enhancement.
Support for the San’layn since I’ve not been around much! lol
It’s a shame that there most likely wouldn’t be a san’layn heritage set with blood elf customization.
I don’t accept your view of reality.
