which model you guys prefer to be used as base skeleton for the San’layn? Blood Elf or Night Elf model?

They should have a unique model, likely will, if added.

I think the skin structure of a normal footed Draenei might work, about the right body type in mind, just hasn’t been seen before.

So I am finally doing the Quel’Delar quest chain and love that I get to see the Blood Queen again. And she said something like the blade was made for her people or something. Looked it up and her people are Quel’dorei or High Elves. San’layn are High Elves? Or are we going with Blood Elves are High Elves? So confused with all the elf separations, lol. Tolkien had as diverse elves and I could follow his.

If San’layn are considered HE’s then I could see them being paired with HE’s to shut up all the Alliance HE threads I see just about everyday. And even though most Blizz videos I’ve seen say BE’s are HE’s I remember seeing one that was more recent then the rest that said no HE’s at this time. Which I take to mean it is in the realm of possibility. If HE’s are possible then I can most definitely see San’layn.

I’d like something we haven’t seen yet but if I had to choose then the NE males look decent but I think I’d like to see a BE version. just not so BE looking, lol. And it should have a vampire option with the elf option like the Worgen have so I can change both looks.

San’layn may be a subrace of High-Elf, and Blood Elves are a type of descendant race to High Elves. I figure the sword can be used by both High and Blood Elves, along with San’layn who started out as either type of elf.

The problem is potentially resolvable by lore standpoints of being a sword which does a racial check.

As in, if Half-Elves ever become a thing, any full or part High Elf or Blood Elf should qualify. Reason being for Blood Elves is that they are green eyed Fel-tainted High Elves, which became a new race, in theory, thus, the “Blood” moniker.

I love the discussion going on lately! Also hilarious flirt <3 Let me grab the flirt idea that’s one of my favorites, hang on…

Yes, I’m corny as hell. I can admit that. :stuck_out_tongue: But anyway, first generation San’layn (can I even say that and be accurate? Who knows) are Sin’dorei. They were the blood elves that accompanied Illidan when he went after the Lich King. When Illidan failed to win that battle, the blood elves were left there to die. They were as a result turned into San’layn.

The thing is, these elves were very loyal followers of Kael’thas, which I really hope they use if they ever do expand upon San’layn lore. I mean, we’re seeing Kael in a vampire area. This is a perfect opportunity for him to see what became of some of his closest followers. I’d really love for Lana’thel’s lore to be expanded too.

I was hoping the Blood Quill would actually do that, but sadly, that never happened.

So, San’layn are undead Sin’dorei specifically, not Quel’dorei. However…there’s constant debate as to whether or not that matters. She could very well still consider herself a “High Elf” or see the “High elves” as her people. It’s a whole lot of weird mumbo jumbo. The distinction between Blood and High Elves is that Blood Elves renamed themselves Sin’dorei to honor those that fell when Silvermoon was invaded by the scourge.

Here’s a fun fact. Illidan vs. Lich King happened at the end of WC3. San’layn juuuuuust barely missed being relevant in WC3 lore because their creation happened directly after those events. Therefore, we don’t have WC3 lore nerds on our side. We were so close to making that cut, hehehe!

As for models, that’s a tough one. I think everyone’s been making some good suggestions. I really like Hypnos’s model idea for male San’layn ( https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/8jmspv/concept_sanlayn_and_high_elves/ ) and as for female San’layn, there’s a lot that could work.

The weird thing is, the Blood Prince models do need some work. A lot of it, but they still look really cool. I feel like if those were polished up, they could be glorious playable. But…I’m pretty sure they’re attached to the gear and have no player animations or real faces.

So, I’m guessing they could grab a model, mod it, and all that. I guess the Venthyr stuff could work too if there was a version not decrepit as well. Problem is, right now it seems like San’layn and Venthyr are two different species, so using the model for both might feel very weird if Blizzard intends on adding both in some way. However, we don’t know their lore in full yet, so… :woman_shrugging:

Looking strictly at San’layn, they could pull a Nightborne (but correctly) and heavily modify the Thalassian elf model to be more lanky, lithe, and what have you. Sharper edges and all that, bat-like ears, fangs, black/red/amber eyes, claws… you know, the works.

A modded draenei for a female San’layn sounds interesting. I wonder how they’d go about that? They’d have to fix the legs, though, for sure.

Just me again

Thought the thread could use another bump!

Oh, Fallynn! You are amazing! I love just how far your San’layn thread has gotten. Rumor has it, that Blood Elves, will be able to look like Undead Blood Elves, as part of the character customization options, that Shadowlands will be giving, to Blood Elves. We just don’t know for sure, if they’ll be the San’layn or Dark Ranger types of Undead Elves.

Curious to know the source(s) for this? I’d love some confirmation for San’layn!

Ah sorry to say they’re not confirmed! Trust me, you’d see this thread explode. Everything on the first post is a collection of ideas we’ve shared. The video itself was made by me and the models were modded by Qualia.

Sadly I can’t edit things anymore because I don’t have TL3.

I’m assuming you mean post 1, right?

Hey Fallynn!

Just wanted to say: Been following the thread off/on. So grateful for your passion on this thread!

I meant to reply to Jahelra mentioning a rumor regarding additional Blood Elf customization, but I guess I replied to the entire thread, instead :frowning:

Thanks! I’ll continue to lurk and hope!

Oh oops, you probably did :stuck_out_tongue: I just woke up so I’m a bit off, forgive me! They don’t give the little arrows to those you respond to if they’re above you, which throws me off sometimes, hahaha.

This is such an odd “feature”. Blizz should really fix this.

There is another thread, about the new Blood Elf character customization, coming up in Shadowlands. It’s listed there, by forum-users, that the Blood Elves will be able to look like Undead Elves. I just don’t know if they’ll be Dark Ranger-based, or San’layn-based. That’s why I said it’s only a rumor, because neither type are confirmed.

The name of the thread is called New Blood Elf Customizations. Keep scrolling down, in General Discussion, until you see it.

If I were to guess, the Dark Ranger customization would be the more likely outcome since they would be easier to design and implement. I imagine it could be a way for players to have a Blood Elf Marksman Hunter with the looks and transmog of a Dark Ranger, though I know those who were wanting a Dark Ranger class might not be too thrilled with it. There is also the idea that undead Blood Elves are part of the Horde, so it is a way to represent them via player characters without making a whole new race as opposed to San’layn who have not officially joined the Horde and, in my opinion, would be different visually and culturally than Blood Elves.

However, because they are currently just rumors, we’ll have to wait and see what all these Blood Elf customization options are whenever they’re revealed. If we get general undead customization, then I wouldn’t be too worried. If they have any vampire-like customization, that might be another story. I’ll keep an open mind until I actually see what crops up in the future.

Something to keep an eye on, for sure.

I’m pretty sure both factions will get Dark Ranger customizations.

SPOILER

I saw where the forsaken night elves left Tirisfal Glades with Calia and Derek. Also, the dialogue from Velonara. I think both options are super cool and will just add more representation to the factions.

Still will go to my coffin believing San’layn deserve their own separate race and a whole slough of customization options. There’s just no way they can do the Darkfallen any justice by slapping them into the blood elf options

I dunno, it seems a bit weird to me to give the Alliance a faction of one of the Horde’s oldest and most iconic sub-groups.

Not to mention Lilian explicitly said she was recruiting Calia to lead the Forsaken, I doubt she’d do that and then Calia just immediately turns her back on them again.
