San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed} (Part 1)

There’s actually something to be said about both kinds of vampires. The ones hiding behind masks (regardless on if they intended to hide their nature or not, or why), and the ones that have little choice but to openly show their nature.

And of course, there are forms of vampire lore that show what happens when vampires of several different sorts all wind up having to deal with each other. So there’s definitely room for both in WoW. The question is what the devs might release as a player option.

I’ve found an interview of interest regarding allied races and Shadowlands:

Specifically the last question:

"Any allied races planned for later in the Shadowlands?

Allied races should feel thematically appropriate. A lot of the races encountered at the end of Legion and BFA fit, as people we discovered become embroiled in the wars we’re fighting and both sides are looking for reinforcements, but Shadowlands doesn’t really have that feeling at the start. It’s something they’ll look at and see how players react to certain races, but nothing is planned for the launch of Shadowlands."

The last sentence is something to note, as it is something we’ve done since we saw the San’layn appear in BFA. It does also show that, to some extent, Blizzard does look at feedback regarding races people want playable.

We’ll have to see what happens during Shadowlands, but my opinion is that it’s still an important time to continue to show support for San’layn. If we happen to see anything San’layn related in Shadowlands, then it’s also important to show support then as well. Given what we know, there are some decent chances of seeing San’layn activity in the future, so lets hope for the best.

While not a guarantee, things are looking rather hopeful for the San’layn, and I’ll continue to help support them as a playable Horde race. :bat:

I mean I try not to think that much into it, only cause Blizz to seem to be good at coming up with out of field reasons as too why things happen in WoW in general. The reasoning behind it could be as simple as the denizens never really had a good reason as too why they would leave the shadowlands. With us repairing the rift that alone could be a reason to leave. Though I’d leave that up for discussion.

To be fair, while I like ‘beautiful’ vampires and such more than the Nosferatu variant, I don’t like them being pansies. I only like them using such beauty as a trapdoor spider to lure in prey and eventually rip them apart. Granted, I’m fine with (and write) vampires that don’t do that to every single piece of prey, and fantasy romance is fine with heavy regulation (again, in my opinion). AKA Twilight did a terrible job at it, but something like Dracula Untold (which is an unpopular opinion, but I loved that movie) did right, I feel like.

But if someone is to write an antihero vampire, I’m of the mind that while they can have morals and play on team ‘good’, they should not hesitate to use their fangs and claws when faced with an enemy, and there should be little room for mercy ever. It’s why in my series, when vampires take over the planet, their systems work very differently from humans, and breaking certain laws can end up causing the perpetrator to be ripped to pieces on the spot. (For example, someone shot one of my protagonists, and while he was unphased/unhurt, he made an example out of the human by ripping out their throat and guzzling down their blood ‘like a human would a cold beer on a hot summer day’.)

This is some good news, perhaps indeed they’re looking into threads like this. I have a feeling it’ll turn into a constant debate as to playable Venthyr versus San’layn and the like, however I still firmly believe there can be the best of both worlds, especially if a “Vampire” allied race could encompass all of them via swapping through them on the customization screen.

It could be an overarching faction or society itself, just like how “Mah’gar” is for the different orc clans. You never know!

In a similar, though unrelated vein, I’d like Undead Belves (the Dark Ranger kind) to be added as options for Undead instead of for Blood Elves. I think the racials would suit them more.

Sure, it would be kinda odd to go to the barber shop and switch between human undead and elf undead, but you could reason it as swapping out body parts. Undead jokes allude to this being possible. While a Blood Elf going to the barber shop to become undead or alive is much weirder.

Cool. Time to run through Revendreth on 20 alts.

Fallyn… have you contacted blizzard through twitter about getting a npc? You and evee deserve it tbh…

Was thinking about how I’d feel if San’layn was just a customization for blood elves and that just seems like a poor way to do it. They really need the whole allied race treatment. Heritage armor, an some nice vampire themed racials.

Now I wouldn’t mind if they lumped a few different races into a vampire allied race like Fall mentioned above. Being able to choose between something like human, vrykul, venthyr, and san’layn would be pretty neat.

Still seems like the bat race/gargoyle looking things would make a neat transformation for a san’layn demon hunter =D

Been thinking about making me a blood elf death knight an saying they’re a San’layn.

Haha thanks, I don’t think Blizzard accepts inquiries about getting NPCs and the like though to be honest. I know that the website creator for warcraft pets got her gnome put in via Legion, but otherwise I can’t think of others that have. Those that get NPCs I feel like have the greatest impacts on the community, and I just run a forum thread to be honest :stuck_out_tongue:

Though in Eevee’s case, it would make sense, since she brought the community together and Vulpera are going to be playable. As for San’layn, we have no idea sadly!

I assume most of the instances of players getting represented in-game as NPC’s is up to Blizzard, and the criteria can vary from someone who runs a huge website and creates a lot of content to a random person making memes on a forum of sorts. It’s neat and interesting when it does happen, though.

On that note, speaking only for myself and assuming we get the races I want playable, I don’t really expect or need a NPC of myself in the game.

Running my Saurok megathread or posting in megathreads in general is not meant for fame. I do it because I legitimately want Saurok, Ogres, and San’layn playable on the Horde. I have a lot of fun typing up ideas, scenarios, and discussing things in the megathreads, and I feel that showing support in some fashion for these races, for whatever it is worth, is worthwhile.

I don’t really consider myself anything of a celebrity of any sort by doing what I do on the forums, and while I have mentioned that if the devs like any of my ideas, they are free to use them, I would be surprised if they did, let alone if they did it exactly how I typed.

In the event that we ever got playable Horde Ogres, Saurok, and San’layn, that would be all the reward I would want. I don’t really need this character I post on to be considered an NPC ambassador in-game to those three races or even be put in a cheerleader outfit with my crocolisk and crab pet bouncing with pom-poms while cheering the three mentioned races on. If anything, I’ll just put my ambassador title on and, for my own amusement, pretend it relates to getting those three races into the Horde.

I’m honestly surprised when people do say they like my writings and even remember them after time has passed, so I must be doing something right. I have considered branching out into other avenues to try to show support for the races I want playable, but I haven’t really thought much on how to proceed in that regard. Real life is quite demanding, especially when trying to get one’s career into motion, but I’ll hopefully figure something out. I also take the stance of “nothing ventured, nothing gained” and know it won’t be a guarantee of seeing races I want becoming playable.

At any rate, I’m not interested in fame, and the march continues onward for showing support for the races I want playable on the Horde! :japanese_ogre: :crocodile: :bat:

The last comments on Allied Races is that they were listening to player feedback, and there are two slots left. So… if it’s true, then San’layn and High Elves would be a good way to finish the expansion out. Last flag in the emissary hall. Last spot on the character select screen, the two largest requests on the forums and a pretty symmetrical way to finish things off.

But, even then, they said that Allied Races are a tool they want to use in the future, so, hang in there.

Looks like Bolvar and his death knights are hanging out with the Venthyr. Smell like possible San’layn story in the future to anyone else?

I’m hoping so! And yeah I’ve gotten over the initial ‘meh’ feeling and am excited for both the potential San’layn stories (especially with Kael’thas, I wonder if he’ll be involved in such a thing) and Venthyr alike. I really can’t wait to see if that concept art of those gargoyles comes to fruition. For some reason, the wings stretched over some elongated fingers is both creepy and awesome, and I’d love to see that in practice.

But yeah! Hopefully we all see some good news sometime soon, this is definitely the time to continue talking about this stuff. We all have brilliant ideas to share indeed.

Oooo, really? Where did you see that?

Wowhead had a recent post that showed an image of Bolvar and some of his Death Knights standing in that zone. Looked like it could either be a wallpaper or loading screen image. But it was made by one of the artists blizz hires.

I guess the image was made for some article or somesuch called GameInformer as a coverart

Oh yeah, I didn’t notice the specific zone he was in! I just saw that was a neat image. Interesting, very interesting… Wonder what that means indeed. I hope we find out information soon, but I feel like we have a while to wait.

Despite it being a meme at this point, I cant support Kael because I support Arthas :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yeah. Especially with the new vampire zone.

To each his own? Was Arthas even in control of his faculties as the Lich king, or had he gone mad? Maybe he’s the spooky giant chained skeletal figure?
