San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed} (Part 1)

Looks like the forum migration will occur soon, this thread might not be saved because it wasn't created within the last 2 weeks though. An extension would certainly be awesome! I don't think this thread is active enough anymore, though. Especially after the con. But well, we do have the Lana'thel's quill thing to look forward to, if it means anything. The devs might be thinking of us since they're designing that sort of thing.

in my search i found one, JUST ONE.. but i found san'layn for the horde perspective
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkUjKoP4J1M
its so hidden that i believe me and everyone else didnt even noticed them on the ship... and i have the feeling these same san'layn (by a historic perspective) is the same san'layn the alliance kills along the blood prince draven... and i really hope im wrong about it, since, if it is true, then this is a not good thing

Yeah it was strange, I went there myself and saw it. Friendly on Horde side which could mean something good, you never know. I still have no idea why they remain alive even as the ship is sinking, after the Alliance flee (for the most part)

I would be quite surprised if you did not have the most important information saved on your hard drive for redistribution. Surprised and disappointed.

That's true, and yeah I saved the information from the first post since it's the most updated. I really do appreciate how you no longer hate us, too. We've tried to remain positive and reasonable ^^ And yeah if anything, slogging on with a megathread on the new forums would be a good thing to keep discussion contained, just in case something new comes up.

Edit: Looks like there's a flagging feature coming up too. Anyone that dislikes our posts can just flag us relentlessly now... this news just seems to be getting worse. We've dealt with trolls enough already, this might be enough to not be worth it anymore.

To be clear, I have never hated Darkfallen but my stance on Allied Races of all sorts remains the same. Biggest mistake Blizz has made. Every week there are ten to twenty useless threads started about Ogres, Naga, Murlocs, and the omnipresent High Elves. Blizz has doomed the forums to incessant yammering any time any NPC race gets a graphic update.

Before Allied Races, you would get the occasional "It would be cool if we could play.. (fill in the blank) race" and you could have a civil conversation.

Instead, now we have "This is why Blizz MUST make (fill in the blank) race an Allied Race next or the game is ruined!" And threads that are nothing but back and forth bickering about why a particular race absolutely has to be included/excluded.

When the reality is, the decisions on what race might or might not be playable next are going to be made solely upon their commercial viability. The lore will be altered to suite what the next expansion requires.

Which does mean every NPC race is just as viable a choice as the other. Elves and Vampires are both popular. I think San'layn have as decent a shot as any, and a better than most. I just wish the entire concept of Allied Races had been implemented in a way that didn't make the forums explode when ever a new Furbolg dance move is discovered.
If you don't want to risk the ramifications of whatever the hell the flag system is on the new forum just let me know and I can create part 10 for you.

I volunteer to be the sacrificial lamb. Everyone needs a profession, yes?
I fear for megathreads in the crappy new forum setup too :(

Why exactly?
I have hopes the idea of "Mega Threads" will finally die

You would rather have dozens of threads of the same subject on the front page?

No.

I want people to stop making threads for the sake of making threads. Just post your discussion and when interest in that specific point dwindles, let it go. This idea that keeping a thread topic on something I want will make the game developers put it in the game is one of the things I detest most about the Allied Races.

Eh I'm not afraid. I'll do it again and have all of the data saved--we've made it this far without me being banned for spam. If I get in trouble due to flagging I can hopefully have it looked at and taken away. I'll bring up all of our current knowledge as well and give a good summary of our speculation due to the data we have from in game.

Why not let people talk about what they want to talk about, even if it's not something you want to participate in? It feels like you care more about you don't want to see than what other people are allowed to talk and be excited about.

Also Megathreads help contain topics, so it's hard to see how they are not a win/win.
The new forum news sucks. We've got a lot of trolls and haters (for no reason). So I see a lot of flagging.
Why not let people talk about what they want to talk about,.
I will reply to this after you read what I have actually said and realize that I am not against people having conversations, I am against people repeating the same thing over and over again for the sake of arguing.

I do agree this could be an issue for you and can only say I won't be participating. I honestly started posting at all in the Allied Races threads just to keep track of which ones I had reported for spamming because I felt it was wrong to report a thread more than once. And I haven't done that since August. (except to the High Elf ones, both for and against, because they still are far too many of them)

There are enough individual supporters for Allied Races in general, and the Vampire Elves in particular, that I do not feel y'all will be unable to counter act the people who come in just to be haters.

yeah, i honestly feel like San'layn are a perfect choice to be an Allied Race (though everyone thinks that for their prefered AR), but not even just due to lore, but from a business standpoint. people love elves, people love vampires, it's only natural people would love vampire elves. also it makes sense thematically with the direction Sylvanas is going, since they are a form of undead, but also because we already have werewolves and zombies as a playable race.

also Vampires vs Werewolves have been a fantasy trope for a while so i'm surprised blizzard hasn't done something like it yet.

If we actually go back to Northrend in the next major expansion, as people seem to believe, it would not at all surprise me if the San'layn were featured heavily. So it would come down to what the developers actually come up with. I wouldn't hold my breath on it, but crossing your fingers might not be a bad idea.
I hope you continue this thread. If nothing else, it may send a message that we won't be intimidated by trolls. Still, from what I understand of the new forums, I understand why you wouldn't want to risk actions being taken against your account.

But again, you can choose to not be part of a conversation you deem repetitive. You also have to understand that new people are constantly coming into the discussions, so things are going to get repeated, and yeah, the same points are going to be brought up again.

As well as keeping the conversations alive shows that the investment on them is not transient, so to ask for people to stop for the sake of avoiding repetition is asking them to not show their investment.
