San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed} (Part 1)

((Jaheira here…Jaheira’s ousted for good!)) I really do want San’layn, and Half-Elves, as a compromise for High Elves.

jesus christ you put a lot of effort into this. you need to add something to the very beginning though, for people like me. just, at the very top of your post you left out a critical piece of information and i had to muck my way through half of your words to figure out through context…

wtf is a san’layn?

open with the answer to that question, and you’ll hold my attention for longer, becuase i’d never heard of it before i saw your thread

Short answer; Blood Elves that followed Kael’thas and Illidan into Northrend during their failed campaign to destroy the Lich King. After Arthas’s ascension to the throne he raised many of those blood elves into his service and augmented them to become a very unique kind of undead. They are vampiric in nature, masters of blood magic, and wear Transylvania-esque clothing. Some additional mutations more commonly seen in their leaders (known as the blood princes or blood queens) can involve sagging necrotic flesh, pronounced fangs, and even wings.

A few more popped up looking to serve Sylvanas at the outset of BFA, which is where the possibility for their inclusion in the Horde comes from. Beyond that, we haven’t seen much else, leaving the rest to speculation.

That’s a good idea, actually, I should do so. Problem is, I can’t edit my own post anymore  So at this point I have to remake it (probably on my alt), especially since at a year old the post would not be modifiable regardless of whether or not I have Trust Level 3. But as Rorrand said, they’re basically vampire elves that originally appeared in Wrath of the Lich King.

Sorry for the confusion, I think I assumed that most people wanting them would already know the terminology and didn’t consider people who might not be ‘in the know’ persay. I’ll be mindful of that the next time I get the megathread going (if I do so anyway). I know Eevee ran into a similar editing problem and remade her thread, so I might follow along with that example as well. (I just don’t wanna be yelled at for spam or something.)

Oh, Lordie!!! How could ANYONE disgrace you, Almighty Blood Queen Fallynn?!? You are the pure epitome of the rebirthing of the San’layn, and perhaps even their Savior!

Oh I love the idea that the vampire curse is a mutagen -like it doesn’t even have to be as undeath as a curse by itself really changes the individual, just compare human and forsaken!- the other comparable curse is the worgen one, and that too is a mutagen!

Hri’tek would have been such a good Loa for the San’layn and I’m shocked at how good the druid class mechanics could work with Vampire lore, tho I do think a cosmetic overhaul would be needed for spec and spell names. I really wish WoW was more malleable when it came to class archetypes (So much it could also be done with a Dark Paladin cosmetic paintover)

A Glyph that could change the whole aesthetic of a Class could be so so cool.

I mean, I try not to buy too much into “leaks,” but…

People over on reddit and 4Chan seem to be pretty damn sure that Hakkar, the blood god, is going to play a major role next expansion.

Oh, believe me… I know how you feel! I would like for the possibility for a Blood Mage (in which the Arcane spec’s spells become Red, in color, rather than the Silvery-Purple as a default). Also, I think Druids would be able to be worked with. In Bear form, they could look like a Golem of sorts…a Blood Golem (think Guild Wars 1’s Death Magic’s Blood Golem, for reference.) Cat form? No problem. Make them appear to be similar to the Troll Druid’s Cat form, but the fangs aren’t as long, and the stripes are more subtle, as less noticeable. Travel form? I have NO idea for Land nor Aquatic forms, but for Flight form, I would use a model, based on the Vampires you see in the Van Helsing movie.

Just me again with another weekly thread bump :upside_down_face:

I don’t really care about the Horde or anything like that, but these dudes would be so awesome to fight against. I remember thinking how cool they were in the BfA War Campaign. And the effort put into the OP is inssaaaane. +my support.

Please keep abusing the male Night Elf model. Make everything better except the Night Elf male itself, with funny animation and a hunchback, even the Classic NE male had better posture, and no tech-neck!

I never understood the fascination with the ne model.
I think a be based model would be neat.

I remember going up against them in WOTLK. VERY good fights!
I might even consider going Horde, if they became a thing.
Skäl.

So now that more people are acquainted with the leaks. Thoughts on lore implications and chances of San’layn appearing if those turn out to be true?

Far less likely than the Vulpera because I personally believe the Shadowlands is just patch 8.3; not an entire expansion…

Siege of Tb/sw is 8.3

It sounds more like 8.2.5 to me. Plus, we STILL have not gotten the full 8.2.5 PTR patch.

Im thinking more of a side raid for 8.2.5

I want my San’Layn to be able to have facial hair. Not just chin patches, a beard at least like Nathanos size.

Oh! I think the Hri’thek bat model would be so cool for Bear form; it’s basically a roided Bat! Basically it would be a bat that has changed flight for resistance! But overall, there are many legends of Vampires shapeshifting into various animal forms, not just bats, so there’s really a lot of potential! Specially the Aswang, so bear form could be some sort of Boar as well.

Flight Form I’m gonna say that while a bat would be cool and obvious, maybe just wings a la Lana’thel? maybe for a glyph!

Travel Form I’d go for a black cat, and Cat form a Dog/Wolf, the second most common Vampire shapeshifting; I think it would be about making it look removed enough from a Wolf (like making them slicker, less fur covered, etc) to keep distance from the Worgen.

Aquatic Form, an eel or a serpent, ohhh, or maybe a huge leech ew!

And for Moonkin Form, I’d take inspiration on the Glyph of Stars and make it an ethereal form, making them more of a ghost/banshee.
