+1 for Batusi dance
This really is a wonderful OP. Did you do it all yourself?
I take no credit for the model work! Want to make it clear it’s Qualia’s work, I think I linked her twitter in the video description.
A lot of the writing aspects are my ideas, in the first post anyway, but not mine alone. Most of this is a combined effort from the community and I’m kinda just the organizer and figurehead (can’t do much else sadly, like models or art. Sigh ) First post content aside from Qualia’s work therefore is a lot of my own research if we’re talking the paragraph-content. Specific racial ideas are a combo of the community’s!
Thanks for the kind words It means a lot to us! We put a lot of work into this stuff.
Qualia’s models are very good but the only thing I don’t like, as far as San’layn go or how I picture them, is that her models are a little too plump. I picture San’layn as having a gaunt face. Not sure if she did this one also 66.media.tumblr (can’t even add link if I put ` like wtf Blizz) but I like the eyes on that one but the face appears to be plump also.
And the male one isn’t bad either. It is closer to what I am thinking and it looks different enough.
I forgot about the wings, lol, doh. Definitely needs wings on heritage armor, I agree.
Yeah, I was iffy about that but I think because I’m trying to use logic and this is a game and Blizz kind of defies logic sometimes, lol.
Like I said before “Do with any of my ideas as you feel you want to”. I know a lot of them aren’t very good but they came to mind and I wanted to toss them out there so I could forget about them. I can have OCD sometimes, lol.
Some of the ideas I’ll put up tomorrow aren’t bad imo. Like the racial one I came up with after reading your post on Reciprocal Altuism. Some of them aren’t good imo, lol. Like Lirath Windrunner being San’layn, I forgot to add he got retconned, lol. And I came up with the vampire Vulpera . . .Vulpira. Changing one letter makes them vampires, haha.

Fair enough! I only have artwork of my female San’layn, not models, from when I got commissions. Here’s Galder’s piece on Falls:

While not as gaunt as you might be imagining, sinking in the cheeks slightly with this concept might do the trick. Along with bat-like ears too, and options similar. Yeah I saw that male model and was like “whoa that looks extremely good, it’s close to what I was thinking!”
I know a lot of them aren’t very good
smacks Don’t say that! Your ideas are as valid and amazing as anyone else here who puts the heart into expressing them. I think many of your ideas are new and haven’t been explored yet, as you can see, and personally think many are excellent as well.

I didn’t know that either but it doesn’t make that a bad idea

Hehe I’d totally draw that one if I could just refine my skills a little I might not be able to draw humans but animals I’m a bit better at. I need to work on getting better at both though!
Ooh I just noticed that Lanathel has flight animations!
(If that ever showed up ingame then I forgot :p)
We have to kill SUNREAVERS…
Not actually sure they were, his words were odd. Not an exact quote but it was something like “You’ll die, just like I did” indicating he’s no longer among the living.
It was actually “You will watch your friends die - -just as I did!”. You had me thinking he could possibly be undead or something , lol. My heart skipped a beat . False alarm.
SUNREAVERS
Aethas can’t catch a break.
If you end up getting Sanlayn, then a really gothic, bloody vampiric party is in order. I am sure I pull some legs at Gagetzan’s black market to get you some premium gnome blood.
ARRRG subject confusion. Quite annoying.
MY SUNGLASSES ARE SHOWING AGAIN! THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I REPEAT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
FINALLY. I thought I’d never see them on her on the forums again. Now I need to ALWAYS remember to log out with them on.
smacks
Thank you Blood Mistress. Can I have some more? Oh wait, that’s a different mistress.
MY SUNGLASSES ARE SHOWING AGAIN! THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I REPEAT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
How much worse could this be if you were a San’layn?.
MY SUNGLASSES ARE SHOWING AGAIN! THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I REPEAT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
2319! WE’VE GOT A 2319!
So here is the second part of what I thought up while reading all the posts.
I forgot to include a couple racial ideas in my last post.
Other racials
- This one I got from Fallynn’s post about “Reciprocal Altruism”. What if San’layn get a racial buff, not sure what it would be, that gets more powerful with each other San’layn within 40 yds? It would obviously have to be something that a raid size group of San’layn can’t exploit. Maybe increase all stats by .01% that way if in a raid size, San’layn only, group you only increase your stats by 4%.
- Sonar. Bats have a sonar that is a bio-location device so how about San’layn get something like that. Maybe they can see any hostiles on the mini-map within 40 yds? Maybe they can’t be Disoriented?
9.0 xpac ideas for San’layn.
9.0, San'layn and plot against Sylvanas
Like I mentioned in my previous post I think that the San’layn have occupied part of the Old Kingdom and the Nerubians have the Upper Kingdom. 9.0 is kind of a WotLK 2.0 if you will and I think instead of introducing yet another new land/island to explore how about they introduce the whole tunnel/cave system of the Nerubians? They can just add the new maps under Northrend. Nothing gets changed, no quests altered, no time flip flopping, no alteration at all to Northrend as it is now. Only it NEEDS to have high cave ceilings because of camera collision.
Maybe what gets WotLK 2.0 rolling is that Helya and Bolvar come to an agreement on getting rid of Sylvanas while bringing both parties to power. Helya offers Bolvar an escape from his prison in return for help killing Sylvanas because she escaped. To make matters worse, Xal’atath has inhabited a San’layn Queens body and is leading the San’layn down the road to destruction.
The San’layn, that aren’t strictly cruel for no reason, look for a way to save their people. They contact Sylvanas because she knows what it is to be undead. She informs them that she already is in contact with one of their princes that goes by the name of Dreven. They inform Sylvanas that Dreven is of the San’layn oppositon and is out to destroy both parties.
Sylvanas hatches a plan to use Dreven to distract the Alliance while also getting rid of certain unreliable Forsaken at the same time. Knowing that the Horde crew is no match for the Alliance force attacking the ship she makes sure to include in that crew the above mentioned Forsaken. Two dead birds with one Alliance stone.
That’s all I got for now.
Two Blood Princes and what they could be doing.
Just some ideas
- They could be working for Sylvanas. In the vision they could be either looking for artifacts for a more powerful Blood Ritual or they could be trying to raise a third Blood Prince. Unfortunately this doesn’t fit in with my 9.0 idea being that she finds out about Dreven later on and so probably wouldn’t have know about them to begin with.
- They could be working for the Blood King and are trying to raise a third Blood Prince. (I’ll tell you about the Rule of 3 in another section)
- They could be working for Dreven and are trying to commune with the dead for information on Sylvanas.
- They could be working for Helya and are after something to stop Sylvanas.
Blood Crystal/Globes , The Rule of 3 and Blood rituals and how they work.
Idea Explanations
- Blood Crystals/Globes are filled with blood, duh, but they are used to transport souls/spirits that are raised from the fallen.
- Here’s how the Rule of 3 works. It takes 3 non-San’layn Blood Magic users to raise 1 Neophyte San’layn. It takes 3 Neophyte San’layn to raise 1 of the next level of San’layn and so on and so forth. 3 Blood Princes are required to raise a Blood Queen and then it only takes 1 Blood Queen to raise a Blood King.
- Blood rituals are either used to captured a soul/spirit from the fallen or release the soul/spirit inside into a body/host. The rituals require the Rule of 3 in order to work except when raising a Blood King in which case only a Blood Queen is needed.
Alright, so there is a quest chain that is required to unlock the San’layn to be playable but then there is a quest chain after unlocking that gives you their history and how they came about.
Two quest chains
So for the unlocking quest chain I was thinking we have to find certain artifacts, books and a powerful soul/spirt to perform a Blood Ritual. And when your newly made San’layn enters the world they are at the center of the Blood Crystal/Globe you used to capture the powerful soul/spirit and you see the body from character creation lying before you. You watch as your soul/spirit enters your new body and then you reanimate.
You start to see flashes which turn into flash backs of your former life. You see possibly an Old God or the Lich King or maybe even the very first Blood King and Blood Queen. Of course now that I think about it you are freshly raised and you weren’t bitten by or even share blood with the Blood King or Blood Queen so possibly flashbacks of your elf life? So lame. Need some way that we share blood with the King or Queen.
Once reanimated you have to work with the Horde to protect the San’layn city. Once the threat is disposed of you introduce the Horde to the Blood King and/or Blood Queen and they, whichever is your leader, tells you to fulfill you obligation and help the Horde defend Silvermoon. You are told that Blood Elves have died protecting Silvermoon for as far back as the King and/or Queen can remember. And Silvermoon will continue to get your support in it’s defense.
(It’s very basic but I had a more thorough idea but I’m tired of looking at the screen and typing so only short version here. Maybe I’ll write the longer version another day.)
Below is just a list of stray ideas I had left over.
Left over ideas
- The Blood King should be more feral and bat like while the Blood Queen should be more refined and Elf like.
- San’layn have many different Houses/Families and that is why there are so many Blood Princes. And that is also why players can play as one because some Houses/Families needed the Hordes help with inner conflict or outside problems like the Alliance.
- There is a Death Realm called Thros that the Drust reside in and it is an offshoot of the Emerald Nightmare. This could be where souls/spirits go that are collected from Blood Rituals. This could also be how San’layn get to be Druids. The Drust can’t possibly inhabit the entire Death realm.
- During an Alliance Incursion in Nazmir they have to fight Blood Knights but when Horde are just questing in that area there are undead doing Blood Rituals. Are those undead the soon to be San’layn? Are they the undead bodies of those Blood Knights that can’t really die?
- I thought someone posted an idea or I read somewhere that all that is needed to become a vampyr is dabbling in blood magic. Does just the simple use of blood magic start to corrupt/turn you into a vampyr?
- Dreven consumed the undead but did that alter him in any way? Maybe it allowed him to not die fully.
- I read that an unknown number of Old Gods got hurled into the Great Dark Beyond. Is it possible that one made it back to Azeroth and possibly is the Blood King or may that Old God made the San’layn and it wasn’t the Lich King like we think?
And finally lets talk about the Blood Well. I’ve seen this idea posted before in this thread and I think it could work. Only it is not the Sunwell changed into the Blood Well it’s something set apart from that.
The Blood Well could be a pooling of Blood since the San’layn were first created by an Old God, the Lich King lied when he said he made you. Any way, during the first San’layn empire the King and Queen thought it was a good idea for all San’layn to add a portion of their blood to the well in order that it should never go dry and would be there in time of need. It is used in Blood Crystals/Globes and to heal a San’layn when near death.
One of the racials I don’t think I mentioned for the San’layn race is blood drops. Somewhere on screen you while have a certain number of empty blood drops. As you kill an enemy those drops fill like you sucked out some of there blood. They can be used to either empower your skills, heal you or be placed back in the Blood Well to help the San’layn people and possibly for rep or something.
That’s all I got. I’m tired of looking at the screen, keyboard and typing. I cut some parts short due to that and for that I apologize. Maybe in the future I will expand on certain points or some nice person in this thread will add onto them.
EDIT#1: I forgot to mention that the Blood Well could also possibly leech blood from the ground anywhere on Azeroth because it has blood roots that are under everything.
EDIT#2: The Blood Well could be used once per day to fill up a San’layn’s blood supply, the drops of blood mentioned above. And like I mentioned they could be used to empower your skills or heal you.
((Jaheira yet again))…… I really want San’layn so bad for the Horde! The classes I see them being are as follows, at least in my opinion:
1.) Warrior
2.) Paladin (think Blood-like reddish spell effects, rather than yellow/gold default affects)
3.) Hunter (they could easily get a bat for a starter’s pet)
4.) Priest (referring you to the same Blood-Red effects Paladins would have)
5.) Mage (iconic magic-user, and turn Arcane spec into the same Blood-Red effects Paladins/Priests would use)
6.) Rogue (self-explainable)
7.) Warlock (again, look at Rogues)
You explain to me, if I have something missing.
I’ve got some new art of my San’layn OC!
