I would argue that if they truly continued Legion’s legacy, I’d enjoy SL more. It had a lot to do for altoholics and story-driven players.
The only thing that continued from Legion is the M+ system, I feel. And that system has become a spotlight that has since drained the life out of everything that isn’t it. Raids no longer have tier sets because of M+ and content that isn’t raid or M+ can’t provide any sort of reward that might compromise the value of those two things.
Casual (LFD/single-player) content has suffered immensely. And it doesn’t help that everything to work on casually is temporary, unless it’s a mount, pet, or xmog. Things like essence spell appearances never carried over and I believe soul shapes and such won’t either.
So if they aren’t willing to give us interesting power progression from content that isn’t designed specifically for groups of friends (and I’m not talking about spending 20m in a Korthia quest hub), and they’re not willing to create lasting content to work on casually, what’s left if you’re not someone who’s ever enjoyed PUGing and your schedules conflict with your friends a lot of the time?
The answer is Shadowlands, where we go find a different game to play the months between patch drops.
He does. His vision is precisely what you would expect to get by hiring the guild leader of the premier theorycrafting guild. He was hired to give us exactly when he is giving us. He cannot be faulted for his nature. You can fault the people that put him there, though.
I actually liked WoD. WoD’s major flaw was lack of content but overall, it wasnt TERRIBLE. I enjoyed building my garrison amd having something to sink all my gold in and what not. BFA wasnt bad either but the systems on the other hand, were pretty bad. As much as I loved Twilight Devastation…never again. Shadowlands, I feel, has seen quite the show. Having the pandemic amongst other things going on, I can understand it not going too hot. Some of this stuff can be said for Cataclysm too. All of the expansions had loads of issues but MoP was master expansion. I loved how beautiful the zones were. Still salty I never got Garrosh’s heirlooms but oh whale. None of the expansions are perfect and thats all there is to it. Thats part of being an MMORPG. Some people will call everything trash and others will enjoy it.
I’d agree that WoD wasn’t all that great. But I had a lot of fun in BFA and I also really enjoyed Corruption (once it was purchasable from vendors). I recognize this is just my opinion but I like when borrowed power systems change how a class is played.
So far, Shadowlands has been worse than BFA but there’s still hope.
They talk to a lot of people. Even the new president of Blizzard streams every weekend and answers peoples questions that he gets asked.
9.1.5 is pretty much the biggest compilation of fixes gathered from feedback this game has ever experienced which has high hopes 9.2 is going to be big.
I think that SL is fine. There are some things I don’t like about the expansion but that’s the same with every expansion.
I love Korthia and have had a blast since Bliz opened it up. I like having flying now but I can live without it. I like the way the dailies are set up and I don’t mind the features such as covenants.
If I had to pick one thing that bothered me about the expansion it would be that I am not happy about being pigeonholed into group content at least for what most people would consider meaningful progression.
…and none of this happens without Ybarra being moved up because of …checks notes…oh the former president having to leave because of a sexual harassment scandal.
They wouldn’t be doing this because of player feedback, they’re doing this because a lawsuit capped them, and ontop of it players are leaving. They ain’t coming back for this big long apology list when the person who’s decisions put them here is still there.
This is like when I broke up with a girl in my 20s because she became addicted to pills. Sad. Then she started getting her life together, but really at that point, could she maintain that change? I don’t know but my logic told me not to believe it. Few years later she relapsed. I felt awful and helped her get back into recovery, but I mean was I shocked? No.
The World quests in Battle For Azeroth and Legion were a decent way to fill in gaps for new alts and in many cases, a quick way to make some decent gold.
The World quests in Shadowlands are super long and the rewards are utter trash for the time investment.
