After 1 year, I can’t really see this expansion being better than any other one except for BFA and WoD.
I weighed it against all others. Mists was really bad, but it had Throne of Thunder, Timeless Isle, etc. Legion wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either. The class order halls, mage tower, etc carried it through the bad elements like grinding artifact power.
Cataclysm… Do I even need explain?
And obviously it doesn’t touch the original trilogy. As much of a meme as that is to say, because yes, those games weren’t perfect, they were vastly superior to anything produced after them, save maybe Legion.
With that said, what is your opinion on how Shadowlands should be ranked? Do you agree with me that it should be 3rd worst? Or would you place it somewhere else amongst your own personal rankings of expansions.
As someone who actually liked Cata, it’s hard for me to say that Shadowlands is objectively worse than it. I had more FUN in Cata, but I’m biased because that was literally the first expansion I played at endgame (I didn’t have all expansions during WotLK).
I agree that WoD and BfA are (so far) worse than Shadowlands. But BfA got worse over time due to patch systems. Without that it’d be a toss up and there’s still room for Shadowlands to tank in that regard, so we’ll see.
I will say that, right now, the “Systemlands” moniker comes across as idiotic when we JUST had BfA, which was so much worse about it.
The community can’t consistently or objectively rate any expansion, because the community is never happy.
Cata was good, Legion is widely recognized as one of the better expansions, MoP was a great expansion, and BFA wasn’t all that bad either.
Opinions are subjective obviously, but you (like many others) never give any reason whatsoever as to why an expansion is “bad.” So tell me why you’re so intent on beating yet another dead horse.
What’s odd to me is Korthia almost feels like the end of the expansion instead of the first main patch. It’s like some odd combination of Argus and Molten Front with dailies, different little quest lines, catchup gear tokens and a new faction to grind out. I dunno. It seems more like the end of the expansion than a midway point.
Are you joking? The expansion has been going for a whole year. The fact we’re one patch in after a year is one of the reasons the expansion is terrible.
The main thing I like about Korthia (and admittedly, Torghast) is that now that the main story is done for Korthia, and my legendary is fully upgraded for Torghast, I never feel compelled to go to either again and I can focus on the content I really want to do.
If you treat certain things as a means to an end, they become less of a chore and more of a stepping stone.
“Deliberate malice” is facetious. Can you show any specific instances where “deliberate malice” is apparent in design, or is it just based on your feelings about specific systems?
Don’t get me wrong here, 9.1.5 changes to covenant swaps is a much needed change (they need to remove the barrier entirely IMO) but saying they’re doing it just to be mean is beyond ridiculous.
I mean pandemic (up to a point) but also why would i compare a expansion midway to a done and dusted one? SL had a boatload of stuff for 9.0 that stretched for a whole year and could still stand up to some other expacs content wise.
Problem is said content is meh. If they put fun content in 9.2 and 9.3 without killing the players itd be a decent xpac
If by deliberate malice what you really mean is “systems designed to keep you in game longer than you wanted to be”, well in fairness to them, i mean, what game designer does NOT want you to spend an inordinate amount of time in their game?
