Rules and morals on needing loot?

Just saw this debate on General chat. Hoping to clarify the official/unofficial rules and/or morals on needing loot…

Example scenario:

  • Raid for UBRS, Shadowcraft tunic drops (a blue).

  • Rogue in full epics, joins the raid - no communication with anyone as to why they are there.

  • Rolls need on this item, wins it and then banks it, for a future phase.

  • Versus other rogues in blues/greens rolling need who will equip it right away.

Thoughts?

rogue = roll

Even if you do not need it right away, wearing better gear and will use it possibly for a future update/phase.

So you rule would be, you can roll need even if you bank it and use it months later?

Why would a very geared rogue pug an UBRS? Probably to farm shadowcraft for phase 5. He probably communicated with this other rogue, informing him he intended to roll on it. He may have even offered the lesser geared rogue compensation to pass. I.e 200 gold.

yeah theoretically if i was the group leader it would be class based roll for blues. nobody should be punished for being good at the game

Interesting theory, if you are that class, roll need. That could cause some crazy imbalance.

I can could jump into lower dungeons, and roll need on hunter stuff just because I am of that class. Can’t see that going down well.

but you wouldnt because it wouldnt be an upgrade or worth any significant amount of gold

Yes if that person agreed and took the gold for the item. End of story. Did they agree and take the gold?

Lets say this lesser geared rogue was infact PVP specced, and getting hard carried, surely the more geared rogue has a right to roll need on an item that will probably be BIS in aq40.

As an aside. Why does the rogue want shadowcraft for p5? Is there a set bonus advantage for certain fights?

The set bonus from shadowcraft and darkmantle gives extra energy, a very powerful proc, only source of rogue resource generation from items until tier 3.

Unfortunately not, which means it came down to luck, and the more geared rogue won.

But that isn’t your rule though.
You said if your that class roll need.

If you need, roll need. Who are you to judge how often someone will use an item they win? Perhaps the undergeared rogue only plays once a week for an hour or so, and the super geared rogue plays for 18 hours a day. Who is really going to use the item more?

If you’re in a PUG, you should never expect an item to be defaulted to you. If you need, roll need. If you don’t, roll greed.

So you carried 9 players? That makes it even worse.
If you have that kind of gear, no way you should go for blues for use month/s later, they sound like they need it way more to gear up.

“if your that class roll need.” I never said that anyway, personally I think it came to a roll off, lady luck won, he was informed,

I go to work 18 hours a day, I earn lots of money, I should give lots of that money away to people who don’t work as hard because obviously they need it more. That’s your logic.

I agree on that point, who cares how often they use it once they get it.

If its sitting in their bank, not to be equipped for month/s. Seems a greed more than need.

If they both equip it within hours, all is fine, need is warranted.

Whether a person needs it now or later is irrelevant. I need my retirement fund later, does that make me greedy for saving my money instead of donating it to charity?

Another post that wouldn’t have been made if they had been smart and used personal loot.

Hmm sorry does not make any sense in this context.

This is a game with greed/need rolls as an option and for a reason - based on who needs it or who doesn’t (greed).

If I rock up to lower level dungeons and need on stuff and bank it, because I am the same class, it would cause a lot of problems.
