RTX Graphics

So…

I hear WOW has ray tracing now…

I’ll never see it, because I’m not a POS BOT reseller.

If my middle finger could reach to the Mars Rover it wouldn’t go high enough to express the venomous taste in my mouth with these manufacturers and retailers allowing this complete BullSh…

Okay well I’m not either I’m just fast on the clicking

But you’re not missing too much, it’s just shadows which are not too impactful and also still not really worth a the performance hit.

I mean most people I know that have it aren’t even using it because of the performance hit so I wouldn’t worry about that part of it.

That makes me feel slightly better.

Now I have to research this performance hit. My build is about a year old and “should” be fine, idk…

I have a 5ghz 8700k and an RTX 3080.

At 1440p on 10 setting, FXAA only, and RTX High, in Ardenweld it can dip as low as 60-70fps at times. Often it is around 100-120 and in some places even at vsync of 144. Note this is just out questing since I am casual scum.

If I go to WoD zones, it can dip farther than 60.

If I turn it off, it tends to jump to the vsync cap more often than not.

Resizeable BAR BIOS just came out for my RTX 3080. Check your card’s website.

UNDEFINED lol

also doesn’t list WoW as supported, so not sure if it makes much of a difference in this game yet.

I can see the new BIOS under Windows 10 64-bit. Not US website though.

NVIDIA Resizable BAR flashing tool
This VBIOS update enables Resizable BAR technology, which gives a system’s CPU direct access to the entire GPU frame buffer. Multiple CPU to GPU transfers can be made concurrently instead of being queued, leading to a performance boost for memory-intensive games and workloads.

The tool can be used on all ASUS GeForce RTX™ 30 series graphics cards. Learn more from NVIDIA:

Got it all set up, thanks.

I don’t know if it really did anything though.

I actually couldn’t find it in my BIOS, so I updated it. It didn’t show up again and then I found out it doesn’t show up unless you enable Above 4D Decoding so lol…anyway I turned it on. It shows up in nvidia as on.

We’ll see if it helps with anything.

It works on selective games. It has performance hit on some games too. I just let Nvidia driver decide on when to enable it.

apparently it’s enabled driver level, and the driver will detect and enable/disable as appropriate.

here’s the list of games:

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Battlefield V
Borderlands 3
Control
Cyberpunk 2077
Death Stranding
DIRT 5
F1 2020
Forza Horizon 4
Gears 5
Godfall
Hitman 2
Hitman 3
Horizon Zero Dawn
Metro Exodus
Red Dead Redemption 2
Watch Dogs Legion

Surprisingly Gigabyte just added a resizeable BAR update for my old Z370 Gaming 5 too. That’s nearly a 4 year old motherboard.

Man maybe I shouldn’t have even upgraded :frowning:

ReBAR is PCIE 3.0 spec. Any mobo with PCIE 3.0 could get it if the manufacturer decides to update BIOS.

Most z370s were omitted when they first did the updates, and a lot of people theorized that they wouldn’t because the boards were too old and they wanted to encourage upgrades.

I know my wife’s z390 saw the update early, but I wasn’t expecting them to do z370 tbh.

That’s a pretty far backwards generational update tbh.

At least they did it. It increases the resale value.
