RTS Horde > MMO Horde

I’ll try this way:

If a ball of fire rolled up to Ragnaros and said “hey big guy, I’m afraid the other balls of fire won’t ever accept me because I was made with water”

And Ragnaros said “don’t worry little heat biscuit, there’s no difference between Fire and Water”

It would sound ridiculous.

It’s not a fair comparison. They are two very very different genres of games, and the RTS really did’nt call for that much in writing stories which were nothing more than bridge pieces between minature wargaming boards.

What is more “good guy coded” then going “we dont care what you look like, we care about your actions”.

I mean you could argue the same with the Horde @ how they got the Vulpera, lol

Nonetheless, people that try argue that one is an obvious “Monster Race Faction” and the other isn’t — Is just simply disingenuous.

Happened to me the other day.

Like going to other planets, luring their destruction to that planet, and doing absolutely nothing to prepare the planet for what you’ve consigned them to.

They were not “luring” anyone anymore then someone fleeing from a mass murderer(i would also point out this mass murderer planned to kill everyone else regardless anyway). As for preparing a planet, the last time Velen told the truth, Durotan nearly killed him because of it.

They refused to stop using that sweet eredar magic.

“We fled to your world from a host of demons hellbent on scouring life from the universe” vs. “Your faith and spiritual practices are all a lie and your beloved ancestors are being lured and devoured by a sentient wind chime.”

You think maybe what truth is being spoken might have at least a little bit to do with how the listeners respond?

Aside from a few encounters(like with T’uure) the draenei managed to escape the Legion and only ever encountered them a few times. In fact, by the time the Legion even got to a world, they were long gone.

And more importantly, the time the Legion did discover the Draenei was because of the Naaru’s holy energy and nothing to do with arcane.

And maybe that is because Velen didn’t even know the orcs were being corrupted by the Legion. The reason he mentioned it was to try and make a connection with the orcs and find common ground.

Having said that, you and Dread have given a good reason why the draenei shouldn’t even talk about the Legion. For fear that these people would blame them for their coming and maybe more importantly, it would spread the knowledge of demons and the Legion. Which in itself would be a double edge sword because such knowledge could fall into power hungry hands(ahem Gul’dan) and summon the Legion sooner.

Yep. Better to not warn them at all and pikachu surprised face when the fel corrupted orcs start slaughtering your people.

Or they warn the locals and the locals summon the Legion and the draenei have no way to escape and get murdered entirely.

I will say that the question of “Are the Draenei responsible for the worlds the Legion destroyed in their pursuit of the Draenei” is very similar to the question “Is the Traveler responsible for the worlds the Witness destroyed in its pursuit of the Traveler?” if we look at Destiny.

The answer in both cases should be no. Because at the end of the day the Legion / Witness are themselves sentient entities. To say that the Draenei / Traveler are to blame shifts the blame away from the ones that actually destroyed those worlds. Hence why Eramis is a villain in Destiny. She is wrong in solely blaming the Traveler for the destruction of Riis, her family and her people. To the point that she willingly sided with the one actually responsible. And those that followed her continued to suffer at the hands of the Witness. Even being turned into Scorn. In which the Witness calls it a “gift”. Also in the case of Draenor it is not like the Draenei had a chance to leave. Their only space craft crashed into the planet because its pilot was dying.

Could the Draenei have warned the Orcs about the Legion? Probably. But part of me thinks the Orcs would not believe them. Even more so after Velen tried to explain what Oshu’gun actually was. You also have to consider Gul’dan. Gul’dan would’ve sided with the Legion regardless and he was a very charismatic person. Even in a reality where the Orcs rejected Mannaroths blood (outside of Gul’dans cult), in time most came to accept it anyway. And these orcs DID know about the Legion ahead of the formation of the First Horde because of Garrosh.

Orcs would believe their “ancestors” regardless. It isn’t really blaming the Draenei for the Legion, it is just pointing out that the inaction is (in this case) immoral, independent of actions of others.

The dam is broken, the water is coming.
I know the water is coming.
I know my neighbors do not know the water is coming.
I know my neighbors are unlikely to abandon their house even if I tell them.
Not telling them the water is coming when I have plenty of time to do so is still immoral.

The Legion had chosen to ignore Draenor until they sensed that “Sweet Eredar magic.”
The Draenei absolutely could not give up their creature comforts, and they damned a planet for their pleasure.

They hadn’t discovered Draenor, they didn’t know about it. And their discovery of Draenor had nothing to do with Eredar magic, which is just arcane magic and Draenor was already full of that courtesy of the Gorian Empire. In factuality Draenor was discovered by the Legion because the Genedar’s crashing, because of K’ara turning into Dark naaru, unleashed a surge of Light magic that the Legion’s spies detected. It had nothing to do with anything the draenei themselves did barring being in Draenor’s orbit.

The demon was flying past draenor and didn’t give a heck about it until he sensed that “Sweet Eredar magic.”

It was due to the Draenei ship crashing that sent a shockwave of magic through the cosmos. That is what Talgath picked up on.

Fella, I literally posted the lore tidbit. It was a sudden blast of Holy Light magic caused by K’ara turning to the Void and Genedar crashing.

“Sweet Eredar magic” is literally just arcane magic. Which Draenor was already full of. Because of the very magically inclined Gorian Empire.

Read it and weep.
