[RP-WPvP] EVENT: Assault on the Alliance heathens!

Bringing the war back in warcraft?

Why don’t I ever hear people wanting to “bring the craft back into warcraft”?

Bring back weaponsmith/ armorsmith specialization, mooncloth specialization, heck goblin/gnome specialized engineers! Make us feel like our crafting professions are an integral, important part of how we play our characters!

More immersive and specialized crafting would be wicked cool.

To be fair the updates to professions in Shadowlands are looking nice.

I haven’t done professions in years, but I’ve been eyeing getting back into them for the next expac if I’m still playing then. The break I took for a few months did help, and I’m actually enjoying gameplay again as long as I ignore the storyline parts that make me cringe.

Yessss! Ever since I raided ironforge back in classic I’ve wanted to know why Mekkatorque could use a goblin dragon gun!

Perhaps there is more depth to his character than we thought…

And in burning crusade I thought long and hard about what professions and specializations would be most fitting for my character’s personality and backstory! There were so many tools for intermingling story and gameplay back then!

I know what you mean, I’m like that but with pvp. I used to do a lot of rp-pvp back before that part of the story became too cringey for me. Now I have trouble even thinking of a sane in-character reason for being gung ho about fighting the other faction and its frustrating because I used to love making warmonger characters :frowning:

Bring it, Elgi! We’ve kicked Crug an’ his cretins out of our lands on an almost daily basis! Ye think you’re tough?! You’re a PEON! Jus’ another notch on me hammer!

It’s amusing that whenever this woefully inane argument is brought up it’s always acting as though the “War, in warcraft” can only refer to faction conflict.

Because:

The Legion
The Scourge
Deathwing
Alt Draenor
Legion again
Shadowlands

all aren’t “War” enough

Yes, well, you do you, boo boo. I’ll have fun playing pixel barbie warriors regardless.

There’s an element on the forums that endlessly complains about the faction war and PvP. They are totally unwilling to see that lots of people enjoy it, it isn’t the right kind of fun.

I really get annoyed at people crapping on stuff like this because people are having fun with it. The Crug threads, and the Buckhead dwarves (I forgot your name dude sorry) is clearly people having fun with each other.

My whole thing with events like this is that they’re pretty hard for me to justify actually happening IC without serious consequences, so I just… ignore them. I choose not to interact. That said.

While I sympathize, there’s a difference between goofy pvp posts and RP-PvP attacking Stormwind, with a whole bunch of people who aren’t interested in roleplaying an attack on Stormwind that makes no real sense forced to participate (in the sense that any raid on a city that doesn’t just walk into the leader room is going to be disruptive to people’s RP). In that case, the fun of the people attacking kind of necessarily comes at the expense of the fun of the people whose city is being attacked, ostensibly as an IC event.

Like, do your thing, but it’s not wrong for other people to point out it doesn’t make sense/conflicts with existing lore/is probably going to be disruptive to other people RPing that don’t want to deal with a PvP raid on the city they can’t avoid because warmode forces them to phase with PvPers.

That’s what it seems like, but hey. I’d rather just smile and nod at them and keep having fun. I have a whole bunch of other hills i’d rather die on than ‘people who get mad at other people having fun.’

I respect your position. How I see it is it was a mantra for a lot of people to RP how they want and so on, so forth but when it is an event about something they don’t like it is somehow lore breaking. I love the goofy PvP posting like this, it shows me people are still having fun with it. Crug vs the Dwarves has been honestly funny to me and some of the better recent threads. I am kinda looking to SL because of it too, we might see more people engaged and involved in PvP.

I… I understand what you’re saying with the first half here, but you kind of lost me at the end? As in people are RPing in War Mode and it’s disruptive, or…?

wanna play some Quake

My thoughts are that there’s a lot of backlash because there’s always that one guy™ who taunts the whole other faction for a bit of PvP, so events like this (particularly open-ended events that occur in areas where RPers would be for other reasons) end up triggering the same response as to that one guy™.

That and because a lot of RPers didn’t like the war while it was happening, and now they have IC treaty negotiations which they thought would put an end to the formally-faction-approved PvP, they’re reacting even more strongly to PvP events that are framed as faction-backed because they hoped that they would be done with this now.

If this was framed as “let us malcontents gather in a place that has at least plausible deniability from the Horde as a faction, to throw down in a battlefield that isn’t filled with RPers who just wanted to be able to chat about the weather without PvPers stealing their tea and biscuits while that one guy™ taunts them about it on the forums”, then I think there’d be >75% less complaints.

Are you serious?

I think - and I’m not going to speak for other people here - that a major component of RP is the ability to curate your experience, and it’s a lot harder to ignore someone running around killing NPCs/other players in the city than, say, someone roleplaying as the illegitimate child of illidan and jaina who leads the fluorescent dragonflight. That’s probably why events like these rub people the wrong way.

Stormwind phases warmode and non-warmode players together, so people who have not opted into pvp and want to RP in the city are probably going to have that be disrupted by an event like this.
