I often wonder, as I’m sure many do, about what Blizzard is actually up to with the rppvp server and their utter silence on the matter.
What if…what if they are intentionally staying quiet about it so non-rp’ers who might have chosen an rppvp server because of the generally more mature players and no silly names,…so these non-rp’ers set their minds on rolling on a pvp server.
…then on launch day, there just happens to be an rppvp server which, of course, the RPpvp’ers would ecstatically jump on but the non-rp’ers just go to the pvp servers because that’s what they been thinking about and planning on all this time. Almost, a knee-jerk response.
Wouldn’t that be nice?
…or are rppvp’ers just not enough to populate our own server?
Could this possibly be a petri dish that they are amused by, leaving it alone and seeing how putrid it can become before tossing it in the trash once they are no longer entertained, never really intending for anything to come of it?
I really want to remain hopeful, but they are just plumbing the depths of bad form at this point.
Personally I don’t see how them not having a rp pvp server benefits them in any way. I also don’t understand the lack of response on their part considering how many people have questioned them on it. The intentional disregard of the noise the rp pvp community has made looks really bad on them. It goes to prove more of a point on if they are really listening to the players. I feel the backlash would be great when server reveal comes and it’s not there. They know people will be upset, so I imagine hope they are listening to the community and plan to surprise us!
Feeling refreshed with sturdy legs it was time to finish my trek. I stopped by the flightmaster so I could return to Loch Modan with ease. I headed south to the guard tower then west through the tunnel to Dun Morogh. Emerging from the tunnel I had to stop and take it all in.
The whitest white I have ever seen. The guard said there was a fresh snowfall last night. Nothing like it and words don’t quite do it justice. Dun Morogh is beautiful, cold but beautiful. I wasn’t prepared for how cold it was either. Dwarves are crazy, some walking around barely covered in this weather.
I passed through the southern guard tower without issue. Following the road I noticed a frozen lake to my left. I had heard stories of Troggs, and until that day had yet to see one. They sure are ugly… no wonder they live in caves. Bears, boars and leopards dot the landscape as I passed by a quarry. I must be getting close to Ironforge now I thought. I could see the mountain it is built into northwest of me.
A rather uneventful trek through Dun Morogh as I reached the road leading up to Ironforge. The great city of the Dwarves. I couldn’t wait to get inside and start my training as a smith. I approach the imposing gates of Ironforge an anvil inlaid with gold adorns the entrance. Impressive, I almost didn’t feel worthy to enter.
The first guard I see greeted me and I asked for directions to the blacksmith trainer. In the heart of the city, simple, easy. I passed over a bridge and headed through a passage way carved through the walls. The ironwork of the city is top notch. It’s no wonder they say Dwarven smiths are the finest in all the land.
As I left the passageway I was awestruck yet again. The heart of Ironforge is quite literally a heart. It pulses red and yellow. They didn’t just build it inside a mountain but what appears to be a volcano. Molten lava everywhere around and I am the only one taken aback. Everything is becoming so clear. The great forge is a forge indeed. I met with the blacksmith trainer Groum Stonebeard. He was impressed that such a young Night Elf would make the trip. Commended me on my bravery mentioning that it would get me far as a smith.
The accomplishment I would feel just from making a trip and learning a beginning profession would be unmatched for quite some time.
Wake up Blizz. RP -------> PvP Don’t want to have a bunch of RPers taking over a PVP server and then you have to make another server when you could have combine the letters RP+PVP. Easy hotfix.
What happened with retail Classic WoW was that we didn’t get RP-PvP servers at release. We got RP, PvP, and PvE with RP-PvP being released mostly as an afterthought quite a while later.
Because of this, many PvPers saw the new RP-PvP servers not as a chance to RP-PvP, but as a fresh start where they could go from being little fish in the ocean to big fish in a new pond.
Throughout retail’s history, RP-PvP communities have effectively had to fight a constant tug-of-war with these PvPers who diluted what should have been the RP-PvP experience into something where on some RP-PvP servers, RP-PvPers were basically forced to become insular and closed off, rather than actually getting what they should have gotten in the first place, a server where EVERYONE was actually on it for the RP-PvP, not just the PvP.
This is why we’re all so adamant about the fact that we need at least one RP-PvP server at launch rather than a month or two down the road, lest we repeat history and end up once again diluting the RP-PvP experience.
In a perfect world, we get our single RP-PvP Classic server at launch, and all of the PvPers go to their servers, the PvErs go to their servers, and the RPers go to their servers. Leaving the entire population of our RP-PvP Classic Server as actual RP-PvPers, and giving us a server to call our own, where we’re not ostracized or belittled for having our playstyle.
Blizzard destroyed the RP-PvP experience with their decisions over the life of Retail WoW, but there’s no denying the fact that the initial poisoning of the RP-PvP well started way back in Vanilla, when a bunch of PvPers with no interest in RP hopped onto the RP-PvP servers because they were the new ‘shiny’ thing.
I went to Emerald Dream primarily for the strong wpvp rivalries, but I’ve also done some small scale RPPVP and some RP adventures with the guild. I enjoy all of it. The RPPVP server type provides what I love best about WoW (spontaneous wpvp) while leaving room to explore other interests. You can still do scheduled RPPVP events on an RP realm because you can still flag for PvP. RPPVP realms seem primarily for those who want to PvP and do RP on the side. Maybe that’s just because Emerald Dream is the server I’ve spent the most time on and would take everyone with me to Classic if I could… even Asiimov
RP-PvP realms in Retail (before the PvP realm designation was wiped off of the face of the game) did inevitably become realms for those who want to PvP and do RP on the side, largely because of the history I outlined above.
But yes, there’s no denying that RP-PvP realms have always been the best servers for WPvP, mainly because that WPvP is largely tied into RP storylines and RP-PvP guilds, allowing for In Character, Roleplay Rivalries to crop up in place of the normal out of character rivalries, which don’t have nearly the same impact or longevity to them.
Yep! I love the excitement of meeting players I know on the battlefield and making new friends through those rivalries. Add in guild pride and in-character rivalries to the mix, and it’s a winning formula. I’m not holding my breath, but I really hope they make an RPPVP server at launch. I guess we’ll see in four weeks or so when we get name reservations
Realisticly it’s just has more organized stuff going for it. Can’t say for Maelstrom but ED had a lot of of this, for example. on PVP fourms you see more of “UHEUHEUH I PWND GOODAKA IN THIS PVP VIDEO WATCH”
while on RP-PVP fourms you’ll still sadly see the “I PWNED DUGA IN THIS PVP VIDEO” with more like -Rp speech for it, - Though you’ll also see more orginized RP and RP pvp events, and people generally speaking more laid back about griefing and just move on.
I suppose it’s fair to say, that it is in theory more so, open to what the community makes of us, It can be the same as a PVP server but the RP tag makes more community like minded folk and RPers to tag along with it, and can bring in those RPers who aren’t so… Soft about World PVP happening etc. If that makes sense?
